Loading… Loading… Loaded. Welcome to Zombie Zone. Jan took a sip from his tea as he clicked on his character and waited for the loading to finish. He only had the one character, which was all you got in the free edition, if you wanted more you had to pay for it with a monthly fee. The loading screen finished and he was treated to a brief animation of his character getting out of bed after which “Zyw” was free to roam the world of ZZ. Jan frowned at his avatar, he had had so much interesting stuff until his death but now Zyw was stuck almost exclusively in “standard kit”, or its winter version as the game did try to keep up with the seasons. Jan nodded to himself; he would have to remember to carry fuel for fires as only noobs let their characters freeze to death. Good thing he had remembered to put some stuff in the bars locker, though it wasn’t much but the backpack was slightly better than the free one while the balaclava would help with the cold and reduce his visibility. The steel helmet, though far from good, would help keep his character alive and the 9mm pistol was still a better weapon than the .22 pistol. Some players complained that the helmets and masks made it difficult to see their characters face but Jan didn’t mind as A) His character looked badass in a balaclava and B) The free version only had a small number of customisation options for avatars. Looking at the clock Jan saw it was almost the time his “comrades” were usually online, if they showed they could go out together, safety in numbers and whatnot. Thus Zyw was directed towards the bar, with its so bad it was good music (in truth the designers were constantly adding new tunes, some of it apparently written by fans) and plenty of other characters doing their things, asking for permission he was invited to a game of Hearts (one of the things that many players enjoyed about ZZ were the mini games). Cursing as he had received the queen of spades Jan began plotting on how to dump the unfortunate card on someone… |

"Ill be there. Give me a few min to get the goods and meet you there" Selene said and grinned maliciously. She sent off a private message to her two friends, informing them of the deal and the location, and then headed off to the bank to retrieve her collateral. |

Psiho had his character nod and simply sent the message, "All right." Then he said to Zyw, "So, it looks like we're accepting Biscuit's help. You wanna wait here until Moony gets back or head out now?" Edited by Cetatsenia, Dec 24 2013, 12:02 AM.

- 'I'll join Moon outside. It has been a while since I saw Biscuit and company at work.' The text appeared over Zyws head, accompanied by the animation for an evil laugh. *** Spoiler: click to toggle When they arrived at the gate they found Biscuit with five other members of his group stood “at ease”, all of them were in high tier kit, though two were a bit difficult to see from a distance, the camo bonus from their ghillie suits already showing its worth. Biscuits avatar waved at them as they approached before saying, -‘We haven’t fought alongside you’re group so we’ll ask you to stand back and not get involved.’ That done he turned around and the group moved through the gate. A loading screen later and the trio were in time to catch a glimpse of the ghillie-clad duo disappearing into the landscape. The remainder spread into a line and openly approached the bounty hunters who immediately switched from “rest” animation to combat positions. Activating the animation for “don’t shoot” Biscuit approached the ten bounty hunters. One of their number approached. -‘What?’ -‘You’re Pking members of our town, stop it and get the fuck out to the zone.’ -‘We only PK the one.’ -‘Doesn’t matter.’ As if it was a signal the sound of high-powered rifles sounded and immediately two of the bounty hunters avatars collapsed. What followed resembled more an execution than a fight as the bounty hunters were almost literally shot to pieces by a combination of rifle and assault carbine rounds. The only one to “live” was the bounty hunter by the nick “Ziomek”. Part of the game designers attempts at realism not all wounds killed immediately but most did make it difficult or outright impossible to conduct actions until receiving medical care, Biscuit had ensured that by shooting Ziomeks limbs. The player would be unable to do anything but look in frustration as his characters life ebbed away and at how his team’s killers began looting their KIA avatars. He could also see any conversations being done which was the only reason he hadn’t been gunned down like the rest. -‘If we hear that you’re snooping around our town’s spawn zone we’ll PK your asses again.’ Message delivered Biscuit executed the killing blow, a random animation that appeared in such situations this one involved Biscuits avatar stomping his boot on Ziomeks avatars neck, hard. The execution done Biscuit sent a message to Selene. -‘Right. Feel free to enjoy the game again. You’ll get your collateral back as soon as I confirm you sent the money. If in the next few days they still try to ambush you here just drop us a message and we’ll chase them off again.’ With a final wave Biscuit and his party moved back the town gates leaving behind the trio and the remains of the bounty hunters, slowly turning to bones as they respawned back at their own town. -‘So, Kalik? Or are we trying our luck somewhere else?’ Jan offered after a pause. Edited by Intermaris, Dec 24 2013, 01:12 AM.

Psiho watched as Biscuit's group completely and utterly decimated the bounty hunters. He had to admit that it was pretty impressive, though he thought the PKers were idiots for camping out in such an open area. Even if they were only after Moonchild did they not think she might get help? Psiho personally preferred ruins and forests and the like; anything that wasn't open, really. But that was because he liked to ambush enemies, to sneak up behind them for a quick kill with his knife. "I honestly don't really care where we go," Psiho said in response to Jan's question, "So long as there's stuff to kill, I'm golden. |

Selene was too busy talking trash and dancing in real life to actually speak for several minutes; if they used a VoIP instead of typing all the time, they would have heard her gloating. She also was certain to take screenshots. "shouldve paid for the full deal!!!" Now that she'd returned to the keyboard, Moonchild was dancing and jumping around and practically taunting the corpses. In her current low-level kit, she looked ridiculous. She followed with a lot of emotes, some of which were probably not appropriate. After she calmed down a little, she added, "sure. still not upgrading my kit yet, but ill grab my better weapons." Moonchild disappeared as her avatar loaded back into town. Psiho's character shook his head; you don't gloat like that unless you're actually the one that kills them. But he supposed she had a right to be happy. He'd never had to deal with that kind of crap, but he supposed it wasn't pleasant. He had no issues with getting killed and killing, it was part of the game after all, but griefing someone like that wasn't cool. "Well, I know what Moony was doing before we met up: getting killed. Repeatedly," he said to Zyw, "But have you been up to anything interesting?" He wasn't sure how long it would take Moonchild to go into town and grab her weapons, but he figured he might as well make some small talk. He didn't think she'd take that long, but he never did get the chance to ask how Zyw was because of the whole deal with Moonchild's bounty. Edited by Cetatsenia, Dec 24 2013, 12:35 PM.

Sending an "OK" to moon Jan opted to initiate the "gather fuel" task which would add a set of burnable stuff, enabling his character to start fires in the zone to lower his "frostbite" stat. - 'Found a fertilizer factory that still had the ingredients.' Needless to say a decent discovery, the ingredients where useful for making explosives and gunpowder which meant there would be a good return for it. - 'Managed to deal with most of the zombies there, even an alpha and grabbed some loot. On my way back ran into some bandits. I died and everything I had is now in their possession.' Sighing over his keyboard Jan soon added, - 'Is it me or is our groups survival rate rather low?' |

"You shouldn't have gone out alone, man," Psiho said, "But if it makes you feel any better I died too. I was out and I noticed this guy wandering around all alone in an abandoned town. I watched him for a bit to make sure he wasn't bait for some bandits and then I moved in for the kill. He turned around right as I was about to sneak attack him; he had a shotgun." Psiho's character shrugged and began to gather fuel as well. Psiho liked to PK, it was a hobby of his. He scavenged stuff on his own too, but he went out and ambushed lone scavengers quite a bit. He didn't see anything wrong with it, PKing was a part of the game after all. And he did have a sense of decency, he didn't pretend to be someone's friend and then turn on them. Though he'd had that happen to him several times; that combined with the fact that when you were out and about there wasn't much to deter someone from killing you besides your own skill resulted in him not trusting other in the game. He didn't mind dying, but he still didn't enjoy getting killed; when he was outside of the town he was constantly watching for danger, both NPCs and other players. |

When Moonchild reappeared, her firearm had noticeably upgraded. She preferred long distance weapons and typically carried a sniper rifle. She didn't engage in hand-to-hand combat much, preferring to sneak attack from a distance or from a hiding spot, which is what her beloved dagger was for. It wasn't surprising since she only engaged in combat when she needed to; her preferred method of scavenging was actually waiting for high-level monsters to kill a player and looting their bodies before they were able to make it back to their corpses. One didn't receive as much loot as they would if they'd killed the player themselves, but once in a while she was lucky, especially if a player like Biscuit overestimated his chances and they typically wrote off their missing inventory as "game tax" for dying. Now, however, she had a heavily modified assault rifle with 5.56mm hollow point rounds. She also likely had her dagger for close combat. Aside from the high stats, she managed to imbue it with some sort of disease and an ability to cause radiation poisoning, a status that was very difficult to cure. When she noticed they were gathering fuel, she joined in as well; after all her problems, the last thing she wanted was to get more frostbite. "so we ready?" she asked after a few minutes. |

- 'I'm good to go. Question is, where to?' Jan finished typing and pulled out a map and began looking through the options. - 'Do we look for that military post in the mountains? Go check out the factory again or maybe just scavenge a village?' Remembering a somewhat important thing Jan looked away from his monitor to the clock before typing in: - 'How are you guys for time? No point in going too far if one of us has to go to sleep in an hour.' |
