Loading… Loading… Loaded. Welcome to Zombie Zone. Jan took a sip from his tea as he clicked on his character and waited for the loading to finish. He only had the one character, which was all you got in the free edition, if you wanted more you had to pay for it with a monthly fee. The loading screen finished and he was treated to a brief animation of his character getting out of bed after which “Zyw” was free to roam the world of ZZ. Jan frowned at his avatar, he had had so much interesting stuff until his death but now Zyw was stuck almost exclusively in “standard kit”, or its winter version as the game did try to keep up with the seasons. Jan nodded to himself; he would have to remember to carry fuel for fires as only noobs let their characters freeze to death. Good thing he had remembered to put some stuff in the bars locker, though it wasn’t much but the backpack was slightly better than the free one while the balaclava would help with the cold and reduce his visibility. The steel helmet, though far from good, would help keep his character alive and the 9mm pistol was still a better weapon than the .22 pistol. Some players complained that the helmets and masks made it difficult to see their characters face but Jan didn’t mind as A) His character looked badass in a balaclava and B) The free version only had a small number of customisation options for avatars. Looking at the clock Jan saw it was almost the time his “comrades” were usually online, if they showed they could go out together, safety in numbers and whatnot. Thus Zyw was directed towards the bar, with its so bad it was good music (in truth the designers were constantly adding new tunes, some of it apparently written by fans) and plenty of other characters doing their things, asking for permission he was invited to a game of Hearts (one of the things that many players enjoyed about ZZ were the mini games). Cursing as he had received the queen of spades Jan began plotting on how to dump the unfortunate card on someone… |

"Maybe I should stay on the bridge, so that I can actually do something once Moony gets over here," Psiho said, "I go across to the forest, and I cant do anything to help her. Unless you want me to cover you once we get to the forest, otherwise I'm mosly useless."

"you really need to start carrying a firearm once in a while," Moonchild said as she slung her rifle and went into a crouch. She looked again across the river and bridge, checking for enemies, and then behind her to make sure no one had come that way. When she was sure she was clear, she sprinted toward the bridge. There was no need to be silent if no one was around and there was no reason to risk taking longer than necessary to cross the clearing. |

- 'No point in waiting than, lets get going before osmeone decides to check what the shooting is about, or we get a horde of zeds shambling along.' That typed Jan made a last look around before moving Zyw to the next bit of woods and stopping on reching cover and taking up a position to cover the others. |

"Guns are loud and too flashy. Plus I prefer stealth, and I suck at hitting stuff from far away," Psiho said to Moonchild, then to everyone "And yeah, let's get out of here." And with that he made his way across the field towards Zyw once Moonchild started on her way as well. After all, the only reason he'd waited was so he could stick close to Moonchild in case something saw them on their way across the open field. |

"tss..." Moonchild hissed. "that limits your usefulness which isnt smart in this game," she admonished him. Despite saying that, she made sure that the first weapon she'd draw if they came under attack was her knife rather than her rifle, and ran after Psiho. |

- 'Right everyone whole? No bites that need disinfecting? Then onward! Just yu know, keep your eyes open for zeds.' That said it was back to trudging through woodland, keeping your eyes on the screen for movement and your ears open for any sounds out of the ordinary. After a few minutes of such Jan smirked and typed a message to the group. - 'Anyone remember several versions back? Any such noise as we made at the bridge and within a few moments the place would have een flooded with zeds. Made it very difficult to get anyhting done... good thing they patched that.' |

Psiho was glad they'd taken care of the zombies without too much trouble, and that nobody had heard the noise and followed them. At least, not that they knew of. And he was aware they were lucky, a lot more of the corpses on the bridge could have been zombies. "If we were still in that version I'd have just trudged through the river, hypothermia be damned," Psiho said, remembering the unpleasantness of that particular version, then he smiled and chuckled out loud, "Though I did have some fun once. Saw a bunch of bandits, let one of them see me and take a couple of shots. Then I slipped away and ran up to the top of a building and watched them get ripped apart. I died trying to get away, but it was worth it." |

Selene laughed. "you guys hated that version? I MISS it! it was so easy to get npcs to ambush pcs and then get their stuff. I just had to set up a good vantage point and then it was like watching sharks feeding. i got to pick up the scraps" She smiled. She had set up several IEDs to trigger at strategic points, tracking other PCs and skirting ahead of them to plant an ambush. That wasn't to say the plan didn't occasionally backfire. Unlike most games, improvised bombs - and even "professionally" made bombs - had a rate of failure and she'd had several blow up in her face. Her worst memory, however, was when the PC she was trying to ambush ran directly through her nest, trailing a horde of zombies that also attacked her. She spent an hour trying to get her gear back while the PC and her alternated between duking it out and playing cat and mouse with the zombies. |

"It wall all fun and games until the sound of your rifle attracted the hordes to your little sniper nest," Psiho responded, teasing Moonchild, "And Zyw, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about." |
