Until recently, Krasnorus has been a single-party state, but after Premier Misha Gokolov took power in 1991, he implemented numerous policies of glasnost and perestroika that started loosening the power of the ruling Communist Party, and in 2008 the first opposition politicians were elected into the Duma. The country is now poised to have its first multi-party democratic election in 2014 with Vsevolod Kapalkin as the opposition leader. Krasnorus in general frowns upon same-sex marriage, though it is permitted according to the laws of Marxism in some republics, primarily the more centred and liberal ones, and and numerous LGBT rights have been allowed since 1995 as part of Premier Gokolov's greater goals for glasnost. Krasnorus has the death penalty in place. However, for a long time, it has only been reserved for the highest degrees of crime, primarily for active terrorists and the most notorious criminals, and the government has tried to limit death sentences each year by further defining who these people are in several laws. |
