The light of the campfire was purposely kept low, illuminating only a ten foot radius. It kept their visibility to a minimum in hopes of keeping their presence a secret. They were deep into the forests of the fishing islands, heading south towards the ocean.

Though it was a difficult task, Tadashi had been given the lead on this mission. Satoshi was there to guide him when need be but, for the most part, the success and failure of this mission was in Tadashi's hands, as well as their lives. It might have been a bit overwhelming for the fresh Chuunin, but the Mizukage's training had been nothing but in the three months since Tadashi's graduation. It was meant to push the boy to his utter limits to not only overcome his physical limits but to be forced to face his own inner demons. In the end, there would be a chance his training would break the boy, but with great risk comes great reward.

Rolling out a map close to the red flames of the fire, he sat back and crossed his arms, removing the mask he wore. "Where to next?" He inquired simply.

Tadashi leaned forward to look at the map, "Here," he pointed. Their next destination was down river about a days walk, and past that, was the village. Tadashi pulled out the mission scroll from his backpack. It was his first mission with his new Sensei, Satoshi, and he had been given the reigns. Though he had lead missions before, it was with other Genin, and an instructor, not something as high caliber as the Mizukage would accept.

"Once we reach this vantage point, we'll be able to see the entire village. We already know the bandits are going to strike, but we don't know where. From here, we won't even have to inform the villagers we arrived in order to keep a perfect over watch. We'll be setting a perfect trap." Tadashi had everything calculated, and if everything worked out, this mission would be over in no time.

[[ Oh the mission's slightly changed. We're still going to defend a village but go see the "Rebels!" mission in the missions subforum to see the backstory ]]

Though the village they were heading towards was not "structurally integral" to the Water Country so to speak, every village within the country's boarders was Satoshi's territory. These people relied on him for defense and taking out these men was like killing two birds with one stone. They were nothing but a nuisance and, though the view was cold, they deserved death.

The spot Tadashi had chosen was a good one. However there were two oversights. The first was a cliff behind the designated location. It was easily accessible from outside and created a blind spot to their left. The second was that Tadashi had chosen to keep the two of them together. Separating them would have been optimal, minimizing damage to the village and adding an element of surprise. He would let these go unnoticed, intervening only in the most extreme of cases. The boy had to learn from his mistakes.

"Alright, all sounds well. We depart in the morning." Spreading out his bedroll, he laid back and closed his eyes, drifting to sleep easily.

___________

"And now we wait?" He inquired, crossing his arms and looking across the village. His hand formed a single seal and thunder boomed overhead, followed by a light downpour of rain. The chakra sources of hundreds of people suddenly filled his consciousness. His hands reached up and pulled a black hood from beneath the grey collar of his usual robes, pulling it over his head and donning his mask.

The morning had come quickly, and Tadashi readied himself. The thunder boomed overhead as the rain began. Tadashi had noticed his sensei make a hand seal just as rain had started to pour. "You can create rain?" He asked, despite already knowing the answer.

He looked over the village before slipping on a mask of his own. "We should make a perimeter check. A 1 mile radius around the village should give us a good view of what's already out there. We should meet back here in about an hour, but if anything goes wrong, I'll shoot a flare into the sky."

It sounded like a good plan. Tadashi was hoping to be able to catch the rebel's before they could reach the village, and ultimately before they could do any real damage.

Now, as per Tadashi's orders, the two were to split up and patrol opposite ends of the village. They would more than likely meet up on the opposite end, as would happen when two people did such a thing, but Tadashi intended to meet back in this spot which implied that he intended for them to either cross paths and keep going or double back. That or the boy really hadn't thought out the maneuver, but it probably wasn't the latter.

"Alright. Don't take any unnecessary risks while you're on your own. Though this is a real mission as much as it is a training exercise. Do not let your arrogance get the best of you or else the consequences could be permanent." And with those words of encouragement, Satoshi disappeared in an instant.

He reappeared on the floor below their vantage point, taking a left and beginning his wide patrol of the village just as Tadashi had ordered. It wasn't too large of a village but it would still take a bit of time to completely circle it. An hour more than likely as his pupil had predicted. All seemed well for a while but chakra signatures would appear briefly, disappearing as quickly as they came. Either they were using the trees to simply hide from what they thought to be a normal rain or they were cloaking themselves - sloppily - from sensors. Either way, his Sharingan activated behind his contacts and his eyes kept their attention primarily focused on the outlying woods.

Nearly twenty minutes went by and Satoshi had successfully patrolled half the village, now waiting at the half-way meet up point. His eyes were turned towards Tadashi's general direction, looking both for the boy as well as a flare signaling that trouble had arisen. Which would he see?

Tadashi activated his Sharingan, and his eyes glowed red behind his dark mask. He went off to the right as Satoshi took to the opposite direction. The rain dripped through the forest around him, while Tadashi jump from tree limb to tree limb, over the forest floor. He looked out about the village and everything seemed very still, but something wasn't right.

He closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath, before slowly reopening them. He ventured out a bit further, following his instincts, and before long, he found what he was feeling. A raid of about 12 people, heading towards the village. Tadashi smiled at what he had found, and thought about attacking, however, his masters words rang in his head, "Do not let your arrogance get the best of you or else the consequences could be permanent." He clenched his fist and cinders escaped from it. "I know my strengths," He whispered "but taking on a group of 12 single handed would be a damn good test... I have to control my anger, and I can do this..." Tadashi took a deep breath, and flung himself into combat.

He landed amongst the group of rebels with his fists burning. Tadashi ducked and dodged around the onslaught of attacks that ensued after his arrival, and traded with a few swift blows of his own. One, two, and three fell before him as Tadashi seemed to dance around them like a shadow. His eyes had flickered the with anger, however, as it began so swell inside him, for his own fear of failure.

Tadashi needed to prove to himself and to everyone around him that he was as strong as any opponent, and he refused to lose. The men around him circled, and he was beginning to grow tired from his constant evasions, but still he moved. Five and six now fell, but the fight grew on, and Tadashi's anger began to build. He couldn't lose, there was no way. As he managed to take down number eight, Tadashi heard something from behind him. As he looked, he saw nearly 20 others begin to surround him. "Shit..." He said, forming a seal to fire a flare into the air. Hopefully, Satoshi would would see it.

The Mizukage's eyes scanned the trees once more, looking for signs of Tadashi or the fluctuating chakra sources he felt. It was hard to sense anything with how dense this forest was. Time went on and soon it began to feel like something was going wrong. As if he had a sixth sense, a large group of chakra sources came out into the open and began to converge just as he began to feel as if something were wrong. He was already moving, halfway there by the time the burst of flames licked the sky.

Without any warning to those ensnared in the chaos, the masked Kage descended from the trees and into the fray, Eminent Calamity in his right hand and Divine Cutter in his left. Though his moves might not have been the most swift, they flowed like water as he wound around the group, blades swinging each and every direction. Eminent Calamity's ability allowed him to deliver quick and punishing blows with ease while Divine Cutter acted as both offense and defense, cutting down and jutsu that dare come near.

Satoshi had arrived, and with perfect timing. Together, they would destroy the group of rebels in no time. With a new found energy from the Mizukage, Tadashi felt lifted, and bounced back into the fight. Fire flew from his fists, as the rebels fell before them, but Tadashi wasn't moving quick enough. Though he could see the blade of wind coming for him, its speed was too great for him to dodge. The technique sliced open his side, cutting him deep, but Tadashi fought back with great power.

When the fighting was done, no one stood but Tadashi and Satoshi, but it was a hollow victory for him. Tadashi was far too reckless, and in the end let his anger get the best of him. "I'm sorry..." Was all he could manage, as he clutched his side, trying to stop the bleeding.

A bit of anger began to rise up within Satoshi as well as the two stood. Though they were the victors, this situation could have gone much better. In fact, it showed that Tadashi still had quite a ways to go. Had it not been for the gash in his side, the young Uchiha would have received quite the verbal lashing. Yet Satoshi wasn't the type to scream "I told you so" and that wound in his side was proof of his final words to the boy before they had split up, in a literal sense as well as it would probably scar.

Still, the mission was not over until they were home and, as such, Tadashi was still in command. "Well, do you think that's it? Should we head home or wait to see if another force arrives?" He ignored the wound as it looked far from fatal yet still quite painful.
