INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Conflict and Co-operation: A World At War! To participate in this role-play, you must first create a nation in accordance with the rules outlined in this topic.

General Rules
  • Players are prohibited from naming their nation after an existing country in the world (America, France etc).
  • Offensive titles are banned. However, if your nation for some reason requires such a title, you may contact a member of staff for approval.
  • Players are allowed three plots of land on the map each.
  • It is possible to create multiple nations, but the three plots per player rule still applies and the nations mustn't be allies.

Process
STEP 1 ~ Naming Your Nation
The very first step in the creation process is naming your nation. Most people will already have an idea of what they wish to call their country, but, if you are indeed struggling at this stage, check out the following place name generator for some ideas or inspiration. You may use your NationStates nation if you wish. Not only do you have to come up with a name at this stage, but you must come up the nation's formal title, e.g. the Republic, the Kingdom, the United States and the Empire. This gives the game staff an insight into the type of nation you wish to create. Below is a list of existing nations and their formal names:

Name ~ Formal Name
America ~ United States of America
Japan ~ The Empire of Japan
China ~ People's Republic of China

*REMEMBER: You must not name your nation after a real-life nation, such as France or America. *

STEP 2 ~ Demonym
After finalising the formal name and title of your nation, it is time to come up with the demonym, i.e. the name given to residents of a locality. Basically, your demonym is the word used t refer to the citizens of your nation. It is as simple as that! Below are a list of existing nations and their respective demonyms:

Nation ~ Demonym
America ~ American
China ~ Chinese
Israel ~ Israeli

If you need any assistance with this section (or any section for that matter) of the application, feel free to contact a member of staff.

STEP 3 ~ Name Your Capital City
This stage is almost like step 1, since you have to use your imagination to come up with a catchy name for your nation's capital city. Although we do prefer creativity in this area as well, you are allowed to name them after existing cities, e.g. New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and London. However, please refrain from naming all your cities after cities in one real-life nation. For example, do not name every city in your nation after American cities. One of the fundamental bricks of this game is our intolerance to completely copying real-life nations. Please don't do it! Again, most people will have an idea of what they wish to name their capital city, but, if you are struggling to come up with anything, visit this name generator for some ideas or inspiration.

STEP 4 ~ Claim Land
It is now time to claim land on the regional map. As mentioned in the general rules at the top of this guide, each plater is entitled to claim exactly three (3) plots of land on the map. You are allowed to create multiple nations, but the three-plot rule still applies. If you wish to create two nations, one is entitled to two plots and the other to one plot. That is the way it is, I am afraid. You can access the regional map here.

STEP 5 ~ Ethnic Groups
This is undoubtedly one of the most complex stages of the application. Unlike the other fields, you may not be inventive here and create the different racial groups present in your nation. All ethnic groups are pre-made, so you must base your statistics on the below information.

Categories

Above: Imperian, Abanaenian, Afestian and Hang persons.

This map clearly outlines the areas where each racial category is natively found, though, due to immigration and colonisation, it is possible to create a nation with a non-native majority.
Imperians
Abanaenian
Afestians
Hang
The four racial categories shown above (Imperian, Afestian, Hang and Abanaenian) contain a variety of ethnic groups each containing varying levels of wealth, military capability and education.

Imperian
Abanaenian
Afestians
Hang

*REMEMBER: At the end of the application, you are asked to distribute 10 points among seven attributes. Remember to add the points gained as a result of choosing a particular ethnic group. *

Most nations in real-life are home to several ethnic groups, so it is best to list as many groups as possible. However, you may only claim trait points for the nation's majority. Below is an example:

Northern Imperian- 72%
Southern Imperian -1%
Ashkenazi- 5%
Leonian -10%
Hamish- 2%
Afestian- 5%
Other - 5%

STEP 6 ~ Religious Groups
Don't worry, guys (and ladies), this step is nowhere near as complex as the last! In fact, it is probably the most simple stage of the application, unless you wish to personally wish to make it difficult. Most players will be content with adopting an existing faith (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism etc), but it is possible to completely invent a religion for your nation. If you need assistance with this, you are free to contact a member of staff. Again, most real-life nations have a diverse range of religious groups present within their society. Below is yet another example:

Christianity - 92%
Islam -5%
Judaism - 2%
Other -1%

STEP 7 ~ Picking Your National Language
Players are prohibited from naming their national language after the English term for an existing language in the real world. Therefore, as a result of this rule, your national language will neither be English nor Russian (or any other existing language for that matter). However, if the native term is evidently different, it is allowed. For example, the local term for Hebrew is 'Ivrit', so you'd be allowed to name your language that.

Some players imagine their national language to be like an existing language, whilst others prefer to simply invent a whole new language to use in the game. It is your decision, however, we can't allow several duplicates. If a player has already claimed English as their nation's base, I am afraid you have to either choose another or adopt their national language as your own.

Nation-Language-RL Language
Goldecia-Goldecian-English
Euphoria-Ivrit-Hebrew
Caldera-Calderan-German

STEP 8 ~ Attributes
Each player is given 10 points to distribute among the following attributes:
  • Population
  • Land
  • Religion
  • Economy
  • Military
  • Education
  • Science

Every week, the RP Committee will distribute 5 points to all active nations as a reward for their activity and work. Players have complete freedom over which attributes receive the points. Once an attribute reaches 10, the player is able to purchase an upgrade concerning that attribute. The number of points the player has for that particular attribute will drop to 0 upon purchasing the upgrade and they may begin to build up points for that attribute once again.

*REMEMBER: Make sure to add the points gained as a result of choosing a particular ethnic group. *
