Background Information A war had occurred between the mutants and Skrulls (shapeshifting aliens from a distant galaxy) who were attempting to take over Earth as they believed it was rightfully theirs. The Skrulls eventually receded into the background following their war with the mutants, and Cyclops retreated back into the New Xavier School to hide the mutants away from the growing mutant hatred across the public, who had remained oblivious to the Skrulls' existence. With no idea where the Skrulls had gone, their only lead was an Inhuman boy known as "Cody", who used to be at the School but has been missing for over a year following the war with the Skrulls.
The Start After returning to being in hiding for approximately one year, the New Xavier School began growing in numbers again as new mutants were recruited rapidly into the school. Four teams were eventually formed in response to a CNN broadcast all across America, showing Magneto's face and threatening destruction to those who would not come forward if they had information on Cody. They discovered that a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants had been formed, and the new figurehead leader this time around was Jacob Kennedy; one of Cyclops' old students on Utopia.
Area 51 The search for Cody continued. Cyclops eventually discovered a hidden facility far out in Nevada, supposedly belonging to SHIELD where extraterrestrials had been held captive and apparently experimented on. The X-Teams raided the base but were intercepted by the Brotherhood. The students that had managed to break in soon discovered that it wasn't truly SHIELD, but Skrulls who had been infiltrating SHIELD and using their facilities to track down and capture Cody. This was all interrupted by the Brotherhood's leader, who showed up, took Cody and caused a large explosion via solar flare. Both Jacob and Cody were gone following the explosion, both seemingly dead from it.
The Enemy Is Everywhere A mission to rescue some mutant captives was side-tracked for one team, who happened to stumble upon a secret laboratory buried underground in the vast jungles near the military base. After gaining entry and searching the area, they discovered the laboratory belonged to Skrulls and managed to gather valuable information about where they had infiltrated: the US military to produce Sentinels against the mutants, SHIELD, the Avengers and shockingly, even the President of the United States was a Skrull undercover.
Dead Presidents Cyclops gathered the students and announced that today would be the day that they would kill the President of the United States. After realising that it was a Skrull undercover, they decided their only option would be to kill him, as they knew the humans would never believe the truth after still not knowing the existence of Skrulls on Earth. Two teams were sent out to complete the task, with Cyclops accompanying one. One team infiltrated a military base, hijacked a plane and crashed it nearby the White House as the other team made their way there. The plane crash acted as both a distraction and blockade, giving the mutants just enough time to defeat the Skrulls present and for Cyclops to kill the Skrull who remained under the guise of the President the entire time. News was raised all across America, pinning Cyclops as the murderer of the President and setting mutant hatred and persecution at all time high. But just before the Skrull President died, he left them with an eerie message that they weren't the only threat coming to Earth, and soon the mutants would be faced with a new, even more destructive force that the Skrull only referred to as "Him".
Rebirth A figure crashed into the New Xavier School and made its way to the cells, tearing inside and reaching the three Brotherhood members that remained captive: Katya, Shoshana and Snow. Upon a closer look, the figure took the form of none other than Captain Marvel, which left the new mutants and the captives puzzled as to why he was here. Further inspection brought them to a shocking discovery however, as they realised it was Cody. It appeared that the explosion Jacob Kennedy had caused previously in Nevada in an attempt to kill Cody had only re-awakened his connection to Captain Marvel, allowing him to survive the explosion. Many questions remained unanswered though, as Cody killed Katya Ramsey on the spot without hesitation, stating that she had already known that she had no place in the future. Shoshana and Snow escaped, just as Emma Frost stormed in and caught Cody off guard with a potent psibolt. The surprise attack caused a huge psionic backlash on Cody, forcing his powers to spiral out of control. The new mutants were forcibly thrust into a future timeline where they saw the destruction of Earth at the hands of Vulcan and the various alien races he had unified under his rule. The Vulcan of that timeline approached them, stating he knew that they were not from this timeline due to having prior awareness from a mutant with powerful precognitive abilities that spanned across timelines. Realising that killing the new mutants that existed in present day would allow his success to be swifter in their timeline, he attempted to kill them, but was interrupted by Wolverine. His actions made it seem like he was now working alongside the new mutants and Cyclops, baffling them, but buying Emma Frost enough time to regain control and force them back to reality.
No More Heroes A capsule crash-landed nearby the New Xavier School, with Captain America emerging from it. After insisting he was injured and not a threat to the new mutants, they allowed him to come and explain the situation to Cyclops. He explained that all known superheroes across the globe had been ambushed and kidnapped by Skrulls, taken up into space via these capsules and remained in them as cryochambers. With the aid of Maximus Boltagan, who was working behind Black Bolt's back, the minds of all the superheroes were effectively twisted into believing they never were the superheroes that they had been all this time. Captain America managed to escape due to his Iron Will, but delivered more shocking news when stating that the order had been given by Gabriel Summers (Vulcan), who was believed to be dead. Captain America stated that he had survived the explosion after his battle with Black Bolt many years ago and had returned to rule over the Skrulls, form an allegiance with Ronan the Accuser and Maximus Boltagan to defeat Black Bolt as revenge and bring the Kree, Inhumans and Skrulls under the Shi'ar Empire when he re-takes the throne, with Earth as the final planet to conquer.
The Wolverine Captain America remained at the school, forming a temporary alliance with Cyclops because of the desperate times. Due to what they had seen in the future timeline, the new mutants had come to realise that perhaps Captain America wasn't the only superhero that may have managed to escape Maximus Boltagan and the Skrulls. Captain America stated that Wolverine had mysteriously left the Jean Grey School and the Avengers, stating he had business to take care of. The new mutants were set out to try and locate him, their lead being following up rumours of a possible Weapon X resurgence as a backlash to all the mutant hatred. The new mutants found a base not too far from them in the mountains and fought their way through guards that had been patrolling the area. They broke inside and found X-23 being experimented on, who appeared to have no sense of reason as she outwardly attacked them. After managing to subdue a weakened X-23, Wolverine appeared in the facility killing off the last few straggler guards. X-23 fled, and the new mutants tried to convince Wolverine of everything they had seen in the future and the current absence of all the superheroes. Wolverine refused to join Cyclops and left the Weapon X base, warning them not to come after him again.
Stealing From The Enemy Another encounter with Wolverine occurred on "The World", a dome-like area where the flow of time was completely different to the outside world. It had been a testing ground for newer types of Sentinels. A lead from Dexter Nex, a previous student at NXS and the son of the former man in charge of the new Sentinel programme had brought them here. They stumbled upon Fantomex who got them inside, several battles occurred with the test-subject Sentinels: cyborg clones of certain mutants such as Sabretooth, Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike and X-23. After beating them, Wolverine finally showed up and was curious enough to return to NXS, where he was finally convinced by Captain America.
With the two last Avengers at NXS, they realised the only way to warn other planets of the impending Vulcan threat was to travel to them personally and meet with those in-charge. For that they would need inter-stellar transport vehicles. Knowing Iron Man would possess such technology, the two Avengers took a group of mutants and raided the Avengers Tower that was now filled with Skrull imposters of the Avengers. Fighting their way through, they eventually found the spacecraft they needed and flew back to NXS with it safely in preparation for their voyages to space, once they had tied up any final loose ends on Earth.
