Player 4... Start!

You are SASUMI CAPRIE, and why the fuck does that say "Player 4?"
[findent][findent][findent]     As soon as you and ALEX found out players would have to establish an order, you two took the helm and figured out who was going when before things got too chaotic. You would not exactly call yourself organized, but sometimes your friends really floor you with how long they take to get in gear. Especially the ones who want to run the show.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     At any rate, you figured it all out right away: GWEN goes first, then Alex, then you, then KIERAN, then ASH, then VAN, then ED, then MINA. Gwen insisted on leading the party, but otherwise you would like to get started ASAP so you and Alex can help teach the others.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     The others should be up soon. You have of course been awake most of the night, as you tend to be. You also have your game already; you ordered a digital copy, and you're bewildered and a little frustrated by the fact that no one else did. You can't connect to anyone yet, but you might as well install the thing so you're ready when-[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     knock knock knock[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     You hear a rugged voice behind the door, asking if you're awake. Uh oh. Is that your FATHER FIGURE? You sincerely hope not. Whenever he bothers you at this hour, it's usually to go off on some crazy FATHER-DAUGHTER BONDING VENTURE. One which more often than not shows only a fleeting recognition of your interests - not to mention takes several hours. Dissuading him once he's got the idea is nigh-impossible.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Your FATHER FIGURE then proceeds to enter your room, proposing a FATHER-DAUGHTER BONDING VENTURE. Damn it all to hell.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     He leaves to give you some prep time, but if you know him, he'll be back in to bug you in a few more minutes. Oh jeez you weren't planning for this you have so much stuff to do sdfhsgdjg. You haven't downloaded the SBURB ALPHA INSTALLER yet. You should probably get some stuff together before you get dragged out the door. You don't know if anyone's online yet, but you could check in, maybe at least leave someone a message so they know where you went. Oh yeah, and you're not even dressed.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     What will you do?[/findent][/findent][/findent]

Upon the entrance of her overbearing yet irrelevant and tedious FATHER FIGURE, Sasumi immediately snatched a couple blankets and covered herself for the remainder of her FATHER FIGURE's spiel. Fuck. More bonding time. Bonding time that was, as usual, irrelevant and tedious. She hissed at the door as he left the room. But, father figures will be father figures, she supposed. This would definitely put a crick in her plans.
As quickly as possible, Sasumi threw on her regular garb for presenting herself to the outside world: deliciously quirky floral cardigan, gloriously obscure globus cruciger t-shirt, checked and ruffled skirt, stylishly simple black tights, and an over-worn pair of plaid combat boots barely held together by bright pink duct tape printed with Hello Kitty's reassuring, if vague, face. She then popped her mobile phone onto its charger, hoping the battery would last her trip. The anxiety of missing a single message or update was heavy upon her shoulders as she slapped on mascara, eyeliner, and black lipstick. She scowled at her appearance in the mirror - the usual lack of sleep was definitely showing today. No matter how much foundation she caked on, she knew that she wouldn't be able to get rid of the dark rings that made it looked like she'd been punched, or the ridiculous freckles plastering her nose and cheeks. So annoying. She clipped a big bow in her hair and decided it was as good as she was willing to look. Her FATHER FIGURE could deal with it.
Next in the process of readying herself for the day was, of course, her pre-venture tarot reading. A little insight never hurt anyone! It was comforting to know what to be ready for in the day ahead. Sasumi sat on her floor among the piles of her books and spread her cards out, shuffling them as she focused on calming down. Last minute things always hit her nerves hard. Her FATHER FIGURE had no concept of planning, however, and was prone to leaving her struggling without so much as noticing. The cards were her way of meditation. After finally feeling settled enough to draw, she reached out to pick up her first card and lay it down.

[findent][findent][findent]     As long as you have a few minutes, you decide to do a quick reading. Today's going to be a big day, and you could use a little near-future insight.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Your typical spread is a simple three-card line: first the theme of the day, then something of which to be wary or mindful, and finally an opportunity to look forward to. It helps you to focus and take stock of events and people around you. You draw your three cards, lay them face-down in front of you, then flip.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Your first card is the THIRTEENTH TRUMP, DEATH.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     ...Oh. Well. Today is going to be an experience, then, isn't it?[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Of course, you know very well that the card can mean many things, positive and negative. It can symbolize rebirth or transformation as much as... well... anything else. You know this. But it's hard to bear in mind with that spooky skull staring you down. Why you gotta be like that, Death?[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     The second card, something to be avoided, is the TWO OF SWORDS, a.k.a. THE CHOICE. The meaning seems clear right away: Avoid doubt and indecision. Don't be dragged down by fear. It doesn't surprise you, considering your first card, but suffice it to say you're still a bit unnerved.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     You flip the third card, more slowly than the first two. Here you were expecting the cards to be a comfort, and now you're more anxious than ever. Thankfully, your last draw is a bit more tame: the TENTH TRUMP, WHEEL OF FORTUNE. A card of turning points, new developments, luck and circumstance. If this is an opportunity, perhaps it's trying to say fortune is in your favor? You're unsure how to take it, especially with such a grim overtone. It's gonna be an interesting day, that's for sure...[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Well, you're done getting dressed, and you've had a rather... compelling reading. MINALI poked her head into PESTERCHUM, so you've had a little back-and-forth with her. You haven't heard any commotion outside for a few minutes, so you suppose your FATHER FIGURE is still getting ready. What now?[/findent][/findent][/findent]

Sasumi sighed and tucked the cards back away in their pouch. What a day ahead. In the new light she checked the mirror one last time and stepped out the door of her room, grabbing her phone along the way. 87% battery would have to do. She was anxious to get whatever her father figure had planned over with already.
As Sasumi walked down the hall towards the living room, a shadow seemed to follow her. A physical manifestation of her absolute dread. "Father Dear, are we prepared to embark?" was what she'd planned to say on greeting her father figure. It came out, rather, as "We listos?" Silly Spanish. Maybe she shouldn't have taken nine years of it in school. And thank the deities that wasn't where she was then - if there was anything she dreaded more than leaving her house, it was leaving her house to go to school.

[findent][findent][findent]     Your FATHER FIGURE is already very ready to go when you head out into the living room. He says something silly in response to your Spanish, something like "Oh we are definitely list-ohs," you're not really listening. He almost seems excited. Whatever he's got planned for today's outing, he's confident you'll enjoy it. Without further ado, you both head out to the car and take off.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     About thirty minutes out, you start to wonder how long this is going to take. You ask your old man where you're headed, but he remains tight-lipped. Guess he wants it to be a surprise. You just groan. Surprises are much, much more his thing than yours. Plus, you're still worried about the time. How long is this gonna take? Are you going to be holding up the others?[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     You check your cell phone. The bars are flickering. Gonna be hard to send a message on the road, but you've got to try. You compose a status update for several friends, then hit Send. The message seems to contemplate this course of action, perhaps wondering if the sea of data is too wild to swim in at the moment. After a few minutes of watching the swirly loading circle and the slowly flickering connection bars, you give up and put the phone away.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     After about an hour on the road, the destination comes in view, and you know right away it's where you're headed. The GOODWILL; not a Goodwill, but the Goodwill, the super-Goodwill, the one that's the size of a Target, with a fancy sign out front. The one that sometimes actually has REALLY COOL STUFF that you can use in your outfits, or FUNNY TRINKETS to mess around with. Huh! You can definitely think of worse places to have been headed. Not bad, Pops.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     Sure enough, you pull into the parking lot. Your old man hops out and makes a ta-daaaa sort of gesture, as if he's led you to the Promised Land itself. You smile sympathetically and try to indulge him. It may be out in BFE, but at least it's somewhere you like to go this time.[/findent][/findent][/findent][findent][findent][findent]     And now you're browsing the GOODWILL. Well, you're trying. But your mind is somewhere else. Quite a feat with a whole rack of FUZZY RAINBOW HATS standing next to you, but you manage it. If that message didn't go through, the others must be wondering where you went. You check your phone; looks like your connection may be stable in here, but you're still not sure what happened to your text. Your FATHER FIGURE is in the corner looking at old VHS tapes, having left you to your devices. You could try to get a hold of someone, or you could continue shopping and try to take your mind off it.[/findent][/findent][/findent]
