One of our great strengths is OWS decentralization. No figureheads to decapitate and destroy the movement. We are all leaders. Government by consensus can be achieved by a website(s) where we can all propose laws and vote on them direct democratically instead of just talking about things that we should do. There are techies among OWS that know how to set one up. OWS ideas can coalesce into government that represents the 99% instead of the 1%. Online voting does not entail the use of corruptible voting machines, but lets us ALL propose laws and vote them up or down online on safe sites continually from our home computer. If we can bank online, buy stuff online, pay taxes online and if it is safe enough for government and corporations to use, OWS can use it for direct democracy. No system is foolproof, but online voting is the safest way, better than paper ballots and can be augmented by phone and snail mail. If we are still understandably paranoid, we might even vote harsh penalties for hacking an online consensus site. Electronic consensus is probably inevitable in the future. OWS can begin to put it to good use now.

Ezeflyer, do you see the Occupy Movement as a sort of government model of how things could be? I love the occupy movement. It's the greatest thing that has ever happened in my lifetime. As with anything, there are some things that I like and that I dislike about the Occupy Movement. What I like: The people have a voice I see a lot of compassion Strong motivational force What I dislike: OWS has 136 working groups (too many too quickly) Unorganized No leadership This movement can work, but it needs leadership. The movement needs a group of people they feel they can trust to listen to them and not money. They need good leadership that represents them. The wake up call has been sounded. If you haven't heard of Occupy by now, you've been living under a rock. Now is the time to go to phase II. Finding responsible candidates and leaders that truly represent the 99%. We don't need to re-invent the wheel. We just need to fix the wheel. It's badly broke and in need of repair. We need leaders who are transparent with the people and leaders who respect the voice of the people. That's all I have to say for now. I don't expect anyone to agree with me. Everyone has their own ideas. What's so great about discussing these things is we can take a little from everyone and everything and create something better than what we currently have, and with the internet being a large part of our lives, we can figure in online participation on many levels, but we still need leaders. We can't all be leaders. That won't work, and we can't rotate leaders regularly. We have to have some sort of system in motion that requires consistent leadership. Shorter term limits might be something to consider, but if you constantly have different people in charge, you are going to have too much confusion. |

Thanks for your reply vicky. There are many direct democracy sites. Here are a couple that I like: http://ni4d.us/ http://direct-democracy.geschichte-schweiz.ch/ There is no limit to how far we can apply good ideas in a direct democratic society. Utopia is within reach of Occupy. |

Thanks for posting those sites, Ezeflyer. I look forward to reading them. I like to expose myself to everything and keep an open mind to give myself room for change where I feel change is needed. A lot of us are exposed to a certain programming all of our lives and it's sometimes hard to get past that, but in order to grow, we must be willing to accept differences of opinion, new ideologies, and change.
