Asphyxiation is a very painful and slow sort of death, this occurs when something becomes lodged in the throat and blocks the airways. Muggles struggle to combat this, if the obstruction is far down the throat and in some cases have looked on hopelessly as someone has choked to death. Not a very nice thought, is it? Wizards however can use what they have at their disposal: magic. There is a spell with the incantation anapneo, which will instantly clear the patient's throat. This spell has Greek origins; anapneo translates to 'I breathe'. It works by basically vanishing the obstruction as if it were never there, leaving no trace it was there at all.

The downside to this spell is that you cannot perform it on yourself, even it you did have a steady enough arm whilst choking.

Homework

1. How does this spell work?

2. From where does this spell originate?

3. Can you perform this spell on yourself?
