I've noticed a lack of people who are interested in (X)HTML and CSS, mainly on the IRC chat. I myself started picking it up a few weeks ago (probably 7 or 8 weeks or so) and I think I've made quite a lot of progress over that time. Now, I'd like to discuss some random subjects regarding HTML and CSS with other users, but so far, I haven't found anyone who's also into HTML and CSS 'studying' at the moment.
So, I decided to make a topic here, see if there are any people on the forum itself that have an interest for HTML and CSS.

If you're one of those people, please post here, with a little background information on how you got into HTML (and possibly CSS too), when you got into it, how much you know by now, if you know any programming languages like Javascript or PHP to use alongside your HTML documents, if you have problems with a certain part of HTML scripting or if you feel you're really good with a specific subject, things like that.

I'd really like to know people who're also into HTML so I can hopefully learn from you and maybe you from me. Either way, it could be a meaningful and interesting thing for all of us, so please, if you know some HTML or if you're interested in picking it up for the first time, feel free to mention so here.

Now as for my own background to HTML:

I picked it up once four years ago but didn't really like it. I dropped it and about three years after that, I started hanging out on Invisionfree forums. I made one myself just to see how things worked and found out "something called the CSS that apparantely changed the layout of your site". I decided to dig into it some more after I finally created TLF (and after I got back from my summer holiday), but didn't really do much with it, until 8 weeks ago.
I bought "Beginning HTML with CSS and XHTML" which really helped me out in getting to know the basic aspects of it. I experimented with some simple stuff and bought the sequel "Pro CSS and HTML Design Patterns" soon after that, which I know use as a 'cookbook' or dictionary (by which I mean I don't actually read it, I just use it to solve problems if I encounter any).

I don't know any programming languages at all myself, but I'm planning to start with Javascript in the very near future. I've got most of the vocabulary of HTML and CSS memorized now, so there's nothing more to "learn" aside from experimenting with it, a lot. But since I'm really interested in mixing up my documents with Javascript to make it more dynamic, I'm most likely going to mix it into the blend and see if I can handle it.

I'm also very interested in PHP and MySQL, but those two will have to wait a while longer. I don't want to do too many things at the same time, so I'll probably only start with them once I feel I've got Javascript, HTML and CSS all covered pretty well. Learning Javascript is supposed to be pretty easy, according to W3C, so maybe it won't take as long as I think it will now, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't have many problems with HTML at all, because HTML is, simply put, really easy. It's the combination with CSS that makes it "hard" IMO. Things like adding colors etc are pretty easy to learn and master, but it's the things that work differently for different kinds of elements that confuse the hell out of me. Stretching things vertically and horizontally, absolutely positioning things, stuff like that. My 'cookbook' really helps with this, since I can basically look it up every time I encounter a problem like that, but I still need to memorize the proper solutions. My goal is to be able to script an entire document without having to refer to my 'cookbook' once.

I don't really excell at anything, although I'm pretty confident that I can write HTML documents without any major errors. Like I said, it's the CSS part that makes it more complicated, but as time goes by and as I gain more experience, I should be able to get more into that as well.

That's all there is about me and HTML/CSS. I'm all ears if anyone else wants to share his or her story, and maybe we could have some discussions about how to do something using HTML/CSS once. I'm looking forward to things like that.

I've been interested in HTML, CSS, and the like for a while. Today in my programming class, we just finished up our XHTML unit with a test (eerie that this topic was created today). Starting Monday (MEA tomorrow and Friday, so I'm off from school the next two days).

Anyways, I was always interested in programming, so over the summer, I picked up a little bit of LUA, so I could make some games for my PSP (custom firmware so hombrew can be used). I never really got far into it, because it's rather simple, and wanted to move onto something else.

Then when I was looking through my class booklet, I noticed there was a programming class available, and decided to take it.

For XHTML, I know how to make tables, image maps, survey forms, and things like that. Like I said before, we'll be starting up CSS Monday, and we'll eventually be getting into Javascript, although that might be next semester/level.

I'm the same with not really excelling at anything, but during classes, a lot of people come up to me with problems (because I actually take down notes and NOT play games on the internet like everyone else).

I've also tried to get into C/C++, but I've decided to wait a while before I start up again

I haven't started on those yet. Though, I'm due to leave in approximately four months to go to DeVry University to take classes on those.

Unfortunately, I may have to take a long hiatus from TLF in order to do so. It really depends on what happens when that time comes. But I do have tons of knowledge on how to operate the ACP, every little feature of it, not to mention making site skins down to the last detail. So you can say I'm well proficient in CSS which is what skinning is all about.

But for the most part, I don't really try to discuss these things too much with anyone because I'm pretty much too lazy to even try to. Other than working on my project which is writing overall. Other than that... *shrugs*

I'm triying to learn this to take a bit of the load off of his shoulders, to do easier work on the beta site

I took a crash course in HTML on neopets.com once... it didn't turn out too well. All I remember was something about putting brackets around commands.

I didn't know anything about XHTML at the age of 14. I knew some basic stuff about HTML, but I had no idea what a CSS was.

Good to know you're willing to learn MoI, we really need more XHTML guys here.

I just started CSS today in class. It doesn't seem all that hard, nor does it seem easy.

I got a little confused because the teacher pretty much scribbled on the board for the "{}" brackets.
