Well, waaaaaaah, it was partly formatting. I'm used to a very formal style, everything is tabbed off and proper use of parenthesis and all. I could still read it, but it was just sort of bleh at times. The main thing was the tons of backgrounds used in cut scenes to display text. That bugged me, because it was quite easy to code a script that did just what was done in the images, but with the ability to be reformatted on the go, and have effects applied if we need too. When I was extracting some of the sprites to work with in my go at the engine, I found that the sprites were replicated for when the character was standing right/left. Couldn't the same be achieved with image_xscale by setting it to 1 or -1? Other than that, the engine was nicely organized and I could find what I needed most of the time. So, I probably overreacted, but my laptop is fairly slow, so that extra load time bugs me. A suggestion for when you come back to it: use ds_grids and pathfinding in the AI, it works quite well. ~Link |

Thanks :D. I'll try to clear up some misunderstandings.
Yeah. The main engine was coded by me, all the other stuff was put in by Raph. I agree with you completely, the amount of backgrounds are ridiculous. I was in middle of working on a textbox thingie when I had to stop. As for the sprites, it has to do with position. See, if you flip the image as is, depending on the picture positions in the sprite, it might not align correctly. Since I didn't want the sprite size to be too big, I had to to do all that extra sprite stuff.
The AI has been modified some since that demo. That engine isn't the current one; the following one is almost that one. http://host-a.net/waaaaaaah/new_raph.gm6 Password is locker. I say almost because there's some stuff added to it on my battery-drained laptop. As you can see, it's much smaller than the demo out there. I probably shouldn't be doing this, but what the hell. I live in Israel, and am currently in the IDF. My cell number is 052-728-2700. I'm usually available between 1:00-1:30 P.M. and 8:30-10:00 P.M. GMT+2. It's a little difficult to explain right now, but whatever. Laterz

Sweet~ I just added your number. I'll try to call sometime to check on you~ And this file has a glitch o.o Every time Raph goes through the door, he just keeps walking and doesn't stop unless you press one of the active keys. But the moment you let go, he keeps going right until he just falls out of the screen. x.x Edited by Raphial Hebert, Nov 15 2009, 02:04 AM.
