I think it's a little saddening. It's sad how much this country has so much religious intolerance.

This group hates religion so much that they went out of their way to start an organization just to start frivolous law suits, and try to piss people off.

They hate religion in the government because there are so many elected officials making decisions for this country based on their religious beliefs. I don't think this is frivolous at all. The 10 commandments don't belong anywhere near a government building. I', not a fan of the atheist one either, since its pretty much the same thing but as long as the 10 commandments are there, I'm glad there is still a symbol for the rising number of atheist Americans. Christianity isn't the official religion of America, and it's about time we make that clear. It's not an attack on the 10 commandments or an attack on religion, it's an attack on what the 10 commandments momument represents. Having the 10 commandments displayed outside a government building is basically saying "You are free to worship any religion you want in America, but lets keep one thing straight, Christianity is the best one and we're going to write it on a big fucking rock outside our building just so everyone knows what the 'real' American religion is."

I have no problem with religion. I think very religious people have every right to be that way and I fully support that lifestyle. I just don't think it belongs anywhere near the government. I feel like over the last few years there has been a "Get this country back on the track to Christianity like our forefathers" movement by the GOP and it's absolutely ridiculous. Keep your religion in your home and away from your decision making, or stay the hell out of politics.

andddddddd whats up with this flat earth society nonsense? did he really say that? anyone that doesn't agree with his carbon cutting policy is now a cave man?

so hes just going to raise the price of electricity...... so what, all these factories that use that will now have to increase product prices... which will then shed jobs and whoops you know where the products will be made next.

they leave, they go to china where they don't play by ANY RULES what so ever.. then it hops on a ship, and chugs across the ocean BACK over here.... wait what? did we just make a big circle AND poke ourselves in the eyeball at the same time?

waoh great job guys! A+ bang up! All im asking for is a little common sense...........who am I kidding.

Christians have it coming. They won't lift a greasy finger to help somebody in need, but they'll line up by the truckloads to stand in line at a fucking Chik-fil-a for 7 hours to get a sandwich in the name of God. I'm glad there's a group of people that's finally taking a stand and bring attention to the fact that the US doesn't have an official religion, and that Christianity shouldn't have special treatment and be the only religion allowed in the US government. We have too many political leaders using their power to push their own religious beliefs into our laws and social policy's, and it's getting to the point of insanity. A politician votes against gay marriage, abortion, and whatever the hell else and say they do so because of their faith and religious convictions. Well that's great if you want to raise your own family like that, but keep your personal religious beliefs out of politics.

And who said this group just marched down on a whim to protest this 10 commandments thing? Maybe it was a small group of unorganized atheists in Florida that wanted help addressing this issue. Maybe they were so completely dominated in the bible belt that they didn't have a chance in hell to get something accomplished, so they sought out and asked for the help of this group.

Either way, I think having either of these monuments on city property is ridiculous, but if one stays the other has to also IMO. The 10 commandments rock pretty much says "yeeeah...you're free to be any religion you want in America, but just remember that Christianity is the only REAL religion we follow, so the rest of you can fuck off." To me, this atheist monument symbolizes a reminder to say that Christianity doesn't, and shouldn't hold any more power in the government than being an atheist, or Muslim, or Jew, or whatever the hell else you are. but then again I personally think that once you start making political decisions based on faith, you should remove yourself from office. Aint nobody got time for that shit.

This isn't sunday service.... its politics... yea they'll piss off all the christians... and catholics... but really so what.. they'll get over it or um do what? vote some other way?

I'm not sure who you're talking about, but I volunteer at habitat for humanity, every week. I also send clothes, bags of rice, and school supplies back to Asia to help with the poor families. I volunteer at church to help with maintenance on people's homes (elderly, and poor). Our church also runs many organizations that help with teen pregnancy, soup kitchens, toy drives, school supplies, etc. I also went to a christian school, and the faculty would regularly take us out of school to volunteer at Samaritan's purse, and do house work for the less fortunate, how many Atheist organizations can you say do that? Now, I'm not saying that all Christians are good, because that's unlikely since there are literally a billion of us world wide. However, for the most part we do a lot of good.

About the chick-fil-a thing. You can't get mad at Christians for doing what they did, and support the LGBT orgs for what they did, because both sides did the same thing. One side boycotted a business, and the other side supported a business. That's what happens when people boycott things, the other side will do something in return.

I went to starbucks on a certain day because anti-gun groups boycotted starbucks for not posting signs banning guns on premises. I patronized starbucks for not folding over for the hippy libs and defending our second amendment rights. Was I wrong for doing that?

Btw, I did not take part in the chick fil-a fiasco, because I don't like waiting in line that long, I don't like the food, and I could care less about gay marriage one way or the other. I personally don't think marriage should be a government concern in the first place.

Not all churches are the same. Being in the Bible Belt, there are a bunch that don't do shit but raise money. Many around here are more like a business than a church, preying on the gullible. But there are good ones too though

When there are so many of us, it's very hard to make a blanket statement. It's like saying all black people go to prison or Americans are fat and lazy. It's kinda just wrong.

I hate to say it, but the majority of the people in this country are Christian, which is probably the reason it was there in the first place. Is it really that offensive to people to look at it? Their agenda isn't anything political at all because it didn't do anything but stir the pot.

No one is forcing you to be Christian, in fact you're free to worship whomever or however you want. I hate hockey, and I don't think very highly of the sport, but it doesn't bother me when people chant bruins or blackhawks, nor would I care if the white house had a redwings memorial in the lawn. If the white house had a redwings memorial, and I sued them and erected a statue that says hockey is for bitches, basketball is the only true sport, that would make me a douche bag.

If there were a predominantly athiest county, that had some type of athiest doctrine statue at a government building, and I moved there. I wouldn't be upset nor would I bitch and complain about it, because frankly... I don't care.

You don't see me going to India and bitch about all the Shiva statues everywhere. I understand that they have dominant religion, and it will be like that, and it doesn't hurt me to have to see a hindu shrine once in awhile.

I'm with you on religion, should be separate of government, but what they did is just the typical liberal bull shit. Strip the rights of the many, just to appease the few. You know because lawsuits over a statue, was well worth the effort and time.

If they have a political agenda, or whatever that's one thing, but erecting a statue just to piss people off doesn't help that at all.
When it comes down to it, it just shows the governments support for one religion over the others. Most of this country is Christian, by an overwhelming margin, but that doesn't matter....they still shouldn't have any more support than any of the smaller ones. I really dont care about either of these symbols or whatever you want to call them. But i am glad somebodies ruffling the feathers of the Christians...i think its kinda funny haha.

And let's not pretend like Christians aren't doing this same thing to other religions either. Everywhere you drive in the bible belt there are giant billboards that say "JESUS" or "God Is Good" or whatever the hell else along those lines. but the one sign in Texas that was put up by an atheist group that said something along the lines of "You don't need God to be a good person" and the Christians flipped a shit. They protested it, wanted it taken down because they thought it infringed on their personal religious freedoms. And THAT is why I like what they did in front of that court house. Christians can put up all the billboards they want and shove Christianity down anyone's throat whenever the hell they want and that is their religious freedom. But as soon as Christianity is publicly opposed, all of this sudden their rights of religious freedom are being violated. There is a huge double standard with Christianity in this country, and Im happy as hell they're finally being taken down a few pegs.

Also, just to note....I don't think all christians are crazy or insane. My entire extended family are pretty religious Catholics, so when talk about crazy Christians, I dont mean to group all of them in there...just the crazy ones that protest dumb shit like this haha.
