lol yeah I know what you mean. When I worked IT, every time a remote users laptop HDD would shit out I would go on our server to check their backup file that we had set to back up their shit twice a week and I would be like "PLEEEEASE BE RECENT PLEEEEEEASE BE RECENT PLEEEEEEEASE BE RECENT....FUCK!" haha. Actually, most of the time they were within a week. There was only one time that one of our remote VP didn't have their shit configured properly from the guy that set it up before me and he had it set to back up like every 2-3 months or something stupid and she lost most of her shit. I then had the privilege of combing through her emails searching for any documents she might have sent/received over the last few months so see what she could salvage. I still don't understand why it was my job to do that, but I was too new at the time to really protest anything haha. |

Aren't seagates notoriously bad? I remember when we order the parts for my rig I wanted a western digital. I know all hard drives will eventually meet their demise but I seem to have this notion in my head to avoid seagate.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaa my butt pucker situation wasssssssss i do images every saturday, but the past weekend i got a fail... source drive has bad sectors an dim like fuckkkkkkkkk youuuuuuuuuuu so after a restart I get a fresh back up. thinking ok maybe thats it, my machine has uptime in the months so ok maybe it just needed a reboot..........next back up RED fail bad sector shit again. so im staring at this seagate thinking you little fk.........but i've got work to do so i don't have time for down time... knowing good and well this drive is waving a flag at me i just ignore and keep cruising. BOOM diaster, lock up....hard reboot...win loading---blue screen.. thats it game over. get another drive out of my closet, start the image, and im just praying to god it ABORTED the back up and did not FAIL because of bad sectors, im thinking the whole time saying I KNOW it said it failed and aborted.. I KNOW IT SAID THAT, but you know your mind starts fucking with you in these situations so im like goddddddddddddddddddddddd please be a good imageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. then its like GOD PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE really be the drive thats blue screening it lolol its like a totally different reaction when its YOUR OWN STUFF, i get super touchy and tense, other peopels shit i'd be liek ahhhhhh fuck it rip this out rip that out kick this ok lets try this and i'd be doing it without any stress. but but but.....my OWN.. like im operating on myself or something haah |

yea but I kinda look at that as more points of failure.....figure out which drive is failing.... replace it, then rebuild the RAID. if more then 1 drive starts giving you shit before you can figure out which one is fucking up you are TOASTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT you'd have to run 4 drives or 5, and RAID does a nice job of masking drives that are having slight issues...then slight issue turns into total failure.. if anything else is our of order you are SOL. I've even had mirror drives for data back up.....oh look drive 1 is corrupting cause its shitting itsself POWER DOWN bring up the mirror.. oh yea fuck everything got written down to the mirror in real time.... its like even a mirror, its ONLY good for drive mech failure, how often does that happen anymore? sure used to be common but now bad sectors and drives just corrupting shit till they just freeze...die...and can't boot. For me image just seems like the quickest thing to do, if your station was really important you could image everyday, drop in a new drive, reimage BAM. Normal backups suck because you still have to reinstall the whole fking OS before you start to restore your data..... I normally do both, image the drives, then back up normal everyday for those people that come in and say OMG I JUST DELETE MY FOLDER ON THE FILE SERVER. I'm actually going to start image backing up, taking the image, dropping it on another drive and have that drive just waiting...drive shits, just swap drives like changing a tire. |

well..........got a new eye doctor. and it seems all the other ones for...almost EVER have just been masking my vision... using both my eyes to give me 70% 20/20 vision. My left eye has always been clear... my right has always been kinda blurry, but both together give a nice picture............... WRONG WAY IT SEEMS, he showed me correct in each eye and holy shit laser beams!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR kinda pisses me off that these docs almost my whole life have just been doing a sloppy job, now this doc points out all of these annoying things like ghosting and semi blur-ish details that I just always thought were part of waring contacts and having werid eyes. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even my new test lens are way better then what i've been waring, and my new ones on order are better then this!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
