That's exactly the problem. The majority of people with "normal" (and I use that term extremely lightly haha) mental health just don't get it. Whether it's depression, addiction, schizophrenia, whatever, a lot of times people assume it's controllable. Like "Just stop doing the drugs" or "Just find something to be happy about and stop being depressed" and stuff like that. The human brain is the single most complex thing in our known existence, and it only takes one tiny fraction of a fraction of a fraction of it to be "different" to completely take over somebodies life. My girlfriend is an attorney with a non profit organization that provides free legal services to people with disabilities, her specific area being abuse and neglect avocation for people with mental disabilities, so I'm exposed to a lot more of this than the normal citizen. It's a very, very sad industry. Normal, upstanding citizens everyday just "snap." She'll be on the phone with somebody that's in prison for murdering their baby, and then she'll find out that that person was model citizen before their mental disability showed up. They were a doctor for 10 years, had the house, kids, healthy marriage....the american dream. Then one day around 35 years old they started hearing voices, then hallucinations and they ended up doing something horrible because they didn't receive the right treatment or diagnosis. It kind of freaks her out sometimes because a lot of people in prison/institutions were completely normal people that just had something go wrong in their brain. People just like her, me, and you guys. And most of mental health issues arise between like 23-37 years old, so once you sit back and realize that one day this could very well happen to you or me, it makes you want to do more about mental health awareness.

but yeah, the main problem is that mental health has such a bad stigma around it in this country that nobody wants to acknowledge they might have it. It's hard for people to recognize and admit that they have any kind of mental health issues before its too late because they dont want to be looked down upon by society. Sucks.

My wife was telling me how medication is prescribed. She's a nurse. She said that normally you have a chemical imbalance in your brain if you suffer from depression, that you will be low on one chemical which causes depression. The problem is, that we don't know which chenical is low and were basically guessing till which prescription makes you feel better. A lot of doctors don't do follow ups anyways to make sure the prescription is working. In some cases there were not prescribed properly and things got worse. It sucks but we still have a long way to go in advancement for mental health. Also, a lot of these medications require you to become dependent on them so once you start there is no going back and you end up being drugged up on a bunch of different stuff.

Yeah the medication is almost worse than the condition sometimes, especially with psycoactive treatments for like OCD or schizophrenia. If you're on the medications, you need to ween yourself off if you decide to stop taking them. It's very, very dangerous to just stop taking them all at once. Your brain can have withdrawl effects which make your original condition about 20x worse than it is. That's when a lot of people with issues really freak out. They take the drugs and then think they're fine, then they get off of them and completely lose control.

From what I understand about the Tony Stewart accident is that sprint cars tend to be steered with the throttle, so he might have hit the throttle to try to avoid him, as stated the victim was wearing all black and so seeing him would be difficult.

Bummer about Robin Williams but I guess from what I have read he has always been up and down, battling addiction. I haven't watched anything with him in it for probably 10+ years now.

Without a doubt our mental health system is atrocious though, the pattern is easy to see. Especially with all the shootings, what is in common with all these mass shootings? Mental instability. It really is a shame that huge advancements are made in some sections of the medical field but others still elude us.

I wonder how much research funding went into things like boner pills vs. mental health.

2006, 86k miles. Final price was around $5745. Haven't put it in sport mode and played with the wheel mounted shifters yet. :ha Just sticking it in drive and going above 50% throttle in 1st has already melted the tires once while merging with traffic yesterday. Oops!

So the Blue Angles are practicing right now, and my apartment is right at the turn around point in Chicago....these vids suck and I cant even tell you how badass this is. Last two hours have been full of this...these arent even the best vids. They went across my window about 2 floors below and not even a block away. I saw the pilot...I'm not exaggerating one bit.

haha damnit you shoulda said something earlier, I went to the game last night. LIttle ridiculous. Even with all the flags, those refs missed some blatant obvious calls on boths sides.
