I had a solar charger, extra flashlights, and back up batteries. Solar panel worked great for charging my iphone. It also started snowing unexpectedly... that could of been bad if we weren't prepared for the extreme weather. Always prepare for the worst, you can't always predict weather in the back country.
and your girl goes with you on these adventures?
yes... good exercise, and amazing views off the sides of mountains. She enjoys it.... or more than likely she enjoys it because I enjoy it. I seem to go through random phases when it comes to my hobbies, and she's always jumps on the bandwagon with me... she's a good one.

I tired the day hikes, but for some reason the bugs go after her like flies on shit. I'll be standing around saying huh, and she'll have the mosquito mother swarm buzzing around her. Next shes asian so she hates the sun, not because of sunburn but because her skin might turn 1 shade darker. 1st person i've seen smack on my SPF8000 but not need to hahahaha. I never knew most asians want to be white as a sheet of paper. :ermm:

The sun fear is starting to ware off after 5 years in FLA but its still there.

Use DEET for insect repellent, it works well. I mostly go out there in the late fall, and winter months. There's no insects or snakes out during these months. I imagine it would be different in FL, where, it's still relatively warm in the winter though.

Lighter skin is very desirable among asians, because it's a bit of a rarity. I'm dark as shit during the summer though... I don't wear sunblock, and I don't burn. My mom is the same way though, and she prides herself on light skin. I was born here, so it doesn't matter to me.

It's a bit too heavy for me... I already have problems keeping my packs under 35 lbs ( Many people keep them at 15lbs). It's not quite backpacker friendly. It's the same dimensions, and weight as my tent. The price is good though, and may be beneficial for car camping.

On top of that, last time I went out, every tree around me with in reasonable walking distance was poisonous. If I made a fire with them, we would of went unconscious from the fumes. Plus, sawing fire wood sucks. It takes forever...lol. I know that thing takes twigs and shit, but I was just expressing my dislike for sawing firewood.

In all honesty though after reading more about it, I'll probably buy it because it's pretty cool. I might try to carry it anyways if I can fit it in my pack.

35lbs oh shit I guess I'm going to be a fking mule. I never factored in weight but then again were still beginners at hiking. Figure will slowly work up to camping over night, right now that thought scares the hell out of me. I would be up all night setting boobie traps and trip lines for big hungry animals. I can't wait to go shopping for all the cool shit you can get for backpacking.

It's a money pit.... the lighter you go the more expensive it becomes.

I got pretty freaked out my first time... You'll hear growling, howling, and animals rustling through your campsite at night. I had to learn to tune it out, because I was freaking out all night.

I've heard many stories of people waking up to bears tearing their tent up because they left food or other smellable items in their tents or packs.

In regards to weight, you'll start counting ounces... like cutting labels off your packs, and sleeping bags. I bought a dehydrator, and now dehydrate my food (dehydrated fruit, beef, pasta sauce, etc), and vacuum seal.

You also learn to live without things that you think you would normally need.

so i found this stuff in the store in the tea section called sassafras concentrate. Picked it up and this stuff is like root beer extract!! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I add a few spoon fulls to my ice tea to give it some root beer flavor and you can even mix it up in some club soda to have root beer without it being sugar water.

This stuff is great!

Ok so what is so special about the Chevy Volt? 25 to 50 miles MAX on just the Batt??? with 10 to 12 hours of charge time on 120V or 4 + hours on 240. Combined its 350 miles max on gas motor and batt for 32,000 dollars, why not buy a fking cobalt and say hell with the nightmare of having something mechanically go wrong on a Volt (sure that would be cheap to fix). I know driving the nissan leaf around Eugene I burnt thru 50 miles in no time at all why did they not make the volt with a further range than 25 to 50 miles on zero emissions???? Seems like everyone is in a big rush to jump into this hybrid cateagory and throws some batteries in a car with a gas generator and says here ya go.

I don't like hybrids, I think they should just go full electric. Maybe with some back up batteries to get home if you're in a tight spot.

battery tech isn't far along enough for this, until you can make a 90 mile round trip nothing will be full elec. Which will be many years.

so the volt says we'll be just like a full elec till the battery dies then you've got to go gas and you won't be stranded.

read stories about the leaf and its bad gauge for the battery.... 50%.....40%.... shit its dead and im on the side of the road.

lots of complaints of the leaf leaving people on the side of the road, the volt won't do this.

its 32K cause its new tech and you always pay a prem for new tech on ANYTHING, the price will go down as they sell more and the tech gets cheaper. GM could have done a quick and dirty and pulled out a leaf, but do you think they could handle the PR nightmare that would come along with volts that die on the road? nope.... they did the right thing.

the volt isn't for people that say hmmmm i only have enough money for a cobalt, but I want an electric car.

the volt won't leave you on the side of the road because its a hybrid, the leaf is 100% zero emissions. Why would you want to own a car like the volt that you have to still pay for gas AND charge makes zero sense. Lets by a car and have to pay for two sources of fuel. Hybrid is a fantasy of a zero emission car!

its not a hybrid like a toyota.

if you only drive 45 miles a day it will never burn a drop of gas, but say today you've gota visit aunt sally and its 200 miles away.... you can still take your volt.

if you owned a leaf you'd have to BUY or OWN 2 cars.

so where do you wanna save? you wanna buy 2 cars and pay for 2 cars on insurance and tax every year.

or just buy one that will be very cheap on elec if you drive under 50 and still be able to pull extra without leaving you on the side of the road.

This stuff has to happen, computers the size of a house didn't make sense but they had to be created so we could have ones that sit on your desk, this is how tech works.
