That's funny were getting into biking also considering we live in one of the biggest biking towns in the country. Plus we are track town baby training for the US olympics 5 miles from our house. Think I am going to go specialized for a mountain bike, full suspension when I can afford the price tag that comes with them. Probably start with a front suspension disc brake setup. |

I always saw these dudes in tights rolling in big groups blocking the roads..... So, I was considering being one of those douchebags. lol. I also saw a bunch of guys on trails in the parks. That looked fun as well. I'm not looking to spend very much on our first bikes... I gotta make sure we like it first. I wasn't sure which one I wanted to do, but since you say mountain biking is easier for a beginners, I'll start with that. Edited by ilivas, May 6 2012, 03:21 PM.

oh god no, don't EVER become the road hogging lance armstrong crew I pass those jerks on my MTB jumping stuff .MTB will be better cause you can ride it everywhere... road, street, cut thru to the short cut, whatever MTB has your back. road bikes you take them the slightest somewhere they dont like and they will dump you on your face, im mulling around getting one for my new bike just cause how lighting bolt fast I will be but i'll ride with normal clothes and not in the street if you are looking for just something fun for you and your girl to pick up, yea grab some quality MTBs and have a blast. Over time you can convert a MTB to whatever you like better, (street) right now mine wouldn't do any kind of off road duty because 99% of the time i'm on on the street so i've changed tires etc,,,, won't do full time dirt like it used to, if you find yourself just poking around roads most of the time once you ware your 1st pair of tires off just get some slick tires with a little tread and it will be easier and quieter as well. My wife had a bike learning curve since she didn't ride much ever her whole life so she dumped her stuff a few times and I and to bust out the 1st aid kit on her but when you ride you have one of these "boxes" at your house filled with all the required shit to clean wounds and patch yourself up.also be sure to have one of those cause, just poking around town my other 1/2 was dumping on the streets figuring out that stuff hurts and leaves a scar. (and who knows, you might..fall always happens) ambersil gel crap NEVER NEO----- anything that starts with AMBER cool... NEO, run way.)so yea MTB and don't worry about each group, cause they all have their skill levels, you want to ride on the road like an ass takes a skill, or to park ride off road takes a skill, just ride around where ever having fun and learn your bike. If you've never rode i'd say 6 months around town poking around before you even think about hitting a trail. trails are totally 10000% fun though so if you have them all around you just resist the temptation lets not break any bones i've been there. cause you will........priority number one is HAVE FUN and don't worry about what the other ego happy bike guys do. so when you finally get your bikes do not listen to any of the bike guys in the shop about how you should ride.... they'll want you to ride with you seat here or there and you or your girl might or might not be comf with it, just do what you gota do and get a way. if you are unsure, ride low. but as you get more sure ride higher, higher around town is better on your knees and much faster, lower is crap on knees and slower...... its all about conf level, just don't ride low forever cause wow that will suck the life out of you. Nope, what is that boxer doing? My dog just either paws at me, licks me, or sits on me to let me know that its morning and time for her to go out!Racingflix still comes up for me, or are we talking about how the forum is still closed and the videos haven't updated in about six months? Yeah I bought a Jamis Trail X1, seems to be holding up well. I told sp00ke I only wanted to spend around $400 so he had pointed me towards the Jamis bikes. Whew! Ran around all weekend, didn't know what the internet was for two days. Finished off the weekend out with some P.F. Changs, had to get some more chopstick practice in. The trail X1 has an MSRP of 395... What's the street price of this bike? I'm assuming, I'll need to go to a specialty shop since like anything in life everything sold at big box stores suck? Is this bike gender specific, or will I need to search for a different women's bike? Helmets.... any one will do? Edited by ilivas, May 7 2012, 01:04 PM.

DO - NOT - BUY - ANYTHING........ from a big box. you must buy a bike from a BIKE SHOP, they are the only people on the planet that don't sell made in china and assembled by mcdonalds bikes. yes gender bikes are different sizes and frame layouts, a girl could ride a doods bike but not the other way around, they are normally the same price so just pick up a his and hers. helmet?

I'm probably gonna need a helmet. I've been in LOTS of street fights in my younger days, and I'm more than likely very prone to concussions because of that.

I was never prone to falling off my bike when I was a kid, but isn't it really easy to fall on mountain trails? |

well if you aren't prone to falling and you don't get stupid I don't see why you'd just fall off your bike. Even in the crazy event that you did fall off your bike you normally have that "protect your head" instinct that kicks in. |
