I don't want a cat on my head. i'd have to keep them in a cage or they'd be doing full time all around the car.

diamondbacks are just made in china hunks of shit. it will be heavy and end up getting you hurt. but wow that is the most expensive one i've seen. (( don't use prices as a judge, i don't care if they made a $1,000 bike... danger danger)) I paid that much for my wifes haro....... cause i wouldn't let her ride a made in china bike. Even if for some crazy reason that was some killer bike... the guy that works at Mr.BigBox that put it together doesn't know dick about dick threw it together and it will prob chain hop have shit adjusted brakes etc etc.... a rolling death trap. TRUST ME, i tried to get the girl just some quality bobo bike cause i knew she'd never do anything crazy but after 3 tries pulling out these bikes i'd check em out and wow fun uneven brake pulls the chain was jumping like a cheerleader I just said ENOUGH... BIKE SHOP, pulled out our 1st bike PERFECT, handed them cash walked out with a quality bike... no issues EVER and even when corey comes to town he can jack up the seat and ride HER bike. Its NIGHT and DAY The jamis that corey got is in that same price range and it will be like buying a BMW over a daewoo. ANNNDD you'll have this bike FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! im still riding my GT, and its got like 1029093214809328432 miles on it and I've had it for 10 years, yea its got new wheels and hubs and its had some repairs, but any other bike would be twisted into a pretzel and tossed into a dumpster Edited by sn00zie, May 10 2012, 09:08 AM.

REI is where everyone out here shops REI storefront and REI outlets online its all super expensive. REI is the only place I have ever been to have a 500$ men's rain jacket for hiking. |

REI is awesome... their prices are pretty good too. They show up on slickdeals every other day because they always have really good clearance items up. I know their camping equipment is quality though, at good prices. They also hand out coupons like candy. I had some 20% off coupons which is why I went in there in the first and bought some backpacks. They also have a kick ass return policy. If you use it, abuse it, and don't like it, you can return no questions asked. They don't always have the cheapest prices, but many times they do. Some of the things that people say are expensive, are because they are expensive. I bought a $350 down sleeping bag there, it's expensive for a sleeping bag compared to wal-mart, but it's good to 0 degrees, it has down insulation, and it weighs 2 pounds. That's just how much camping stuff costs. About their bikes, I don't know, but their camping stuff is great. Some of their stuff might be at retail price sometimes, but either jump in on a sale, or use a coupon. REI brand gear is awesome too... much cheaper, and high quality than the higher end stuff. Camping shit is really just expensive.... You can easily spend a grand on a sleeping bag and a tent if you opt for nicer stuff. No matter where you go. Oh yeah, and they also fit you for backpacks, and sleeping bags which is something that most stores wouldn't do. Edited by ilivas, May 10 2012, 01:02 PM.

350$ for a sleeping bag that resists to zero deg is a little much. When you can go to dicks sporting goods and get a awesome bag that's good to 20 deg for 150 bux. I don't know about you guys I don't plan on ever sleeping in anything close to zero deg, as for the two pound weight on it I'm not that worried about it. More weight the better for me, get a good workout. |

It uses, down 800 down insulation, packs into the size of a cantelope, and weighs 2 lbs. Not gonna happen for $150 bucks. A 20 degree bag is only good in real world temps to around 35 degrees. It gets way colder than that here. Also, that $150 bag probably weighs 3 times as much, has synthetic insulation, and is weigh more bulky. You should be using a 0 degree bag in 15 degree to 30 degree weather. The words, Awesome, sleeping bag, and $150 don't belong in a sentence together. I've seen the ones at dick's, and I wouldn't even attempt to try them. Trust me, when you start walking 15 miles per day, uphill with a big ass pack on your back, you're going to want something light weight, or you won't enjoy. If you're struggling to make the trip, it's simply not as fun. That's why the serious guys buy the expensive stuff. If you're only going a mile out, then you may get away with cheaper equipment, you can always go home if you're cold in your bag, but if you're 15 miles from your car, and you're in freezing temps, you'll be glad that you have the right bag. I made the mistake before, and cheaped out on a heavy, not insulated enough sleeping bag, and it was a nightmare. I will not cheap out on anything important anymore, because simply... you can die if you're ill prepared. My first backpacking trip, I walked about 5 miles with a 60 lb pack.... it fucking sucked. I thought the same thing... more exercise for me. WRONG!!! It was so hard, I had to cross a river in waste deep freezing water, it was cold, and I froze at night. I had to wrap a tarp around our sleeping bags to stay warm, and we were close to hypothermia. I left first thing in the morning, because it was dangerous. I had a cheap 35 degree bag, heavy as shit, didn't fit in my backpack, and it only got to be 35 degrees at night, and I was shivering, all night. We didn't sleep at all we were so cold. Plus the mummy bag, I had was small. I couldn't move in it at all. It's made for midgets. I now have a mummy bag that has plenty of room, and actually fits in my pack normally. Ask any soldier, weight is one of the most important things, and if you're gonna spend money on something put as much as you can into the sleeping bag, and pad. $350 for a 800 down bag, and a $100 for a nice pad. My recommendation to people is that if you don't want to spend money on quality equipment, then just car camp... Because you could seriously get fucked up if you're not equipped. I now have all new equipment, from when I first started, and I wasted all my money on junk the first time around..... so buy once, cry once. Edited by ilivas, May 10 2012, 05:38 PM.

Yeah, once you buy a nice bag or tent, it's good for 20 years. They will stand abuse that the cheap shit just can't handle. |

What’s the point to backpack if you have to spend 1000$ that’s just crazy. So you might like all the $$$$$ stuff because it’s light and real down feathers and lasts forever and that’s fine! I understand the weight issue, their is thousands of people that hike for way under a grand or anywhere near that. My fiancé’s father is a great example he has hiked more places in the world then we can even imagine and he has regular store bought stuff some even cheap. Point taken you were cold with your 1st POS sleeping bag well you have to ask yourself would you have froze to death if you did not walk thru a waist deep river and had the right size bag? Sounds like that hike was not planned out very well from all of the things you mentioned. I just don’t see the need to pay so much for camping stuff if weights a issue don’t hike so far a day if colds a issue watch the weather or wait till summer to camp over night. IMO |
