I quit drinking, at the same time I quit smoking a couple years ago. They kind of go hand in hand. Edited by ilivas, Jun 13 2012, 12:42 PM.

Much like their phones, and the zune, they'll probably end up in the bargain bins though. MS needs to give up on the consumer electronics market... While, I like MS as a company, they couldn't sell a phone or a tablet to save their lives. They need a better screen on it too. They're far behind the competition in that regard. The optional keyboard is cool for some.... however, I would go with out it. I can fly on a touchscreen now. I'd like something a bit smaller. I wouldn't mind getting a 7" tablet, which I think apple is currently working on. Edited by ilivas, Jun 19 2012, 11:34 AM.

They don't make the phones, just the OS. Nokia lumina isn't bad. Game changer will be when they get win8 on a phone, now you have a full featured OS on your phone, and its also on your computer, and your tab, and they all sync up and play with each other. Android tabs are doing so hot actually. Im not a tab fan, 1/2 is because they all run fisher price operating systems. Now this thing, pick you want ARM or x86, it plays perfect with a keyboard and mouse, or touch, or both at the same time seemlessly. Would be a great in the field type of tool, and it will fit into an enterprise environment perfectly unlike itoys and androids. All they need to do is put a good price point on it and it should sell like hell, other OEMs are already going w8 and ditching android. ----- Kind of ironic apple would be working on a smaller tab, cause they are the ones that said "the ipad is the perfect size and no tablet should ever be smaller then this" if you want a small cheapo tab go pick up a nook color, root it and slap a cyanogen build on it and be done. http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/nook-color maybe i'd be more interested in a tab if I was on a plane a lot and needed a boredom device, my little hp mini 311 pretty much kills it on features and size, its like an ipad that opens up with a full keyboard and a real full operating system that I can do work on. I seriously doubt that a win8 phone is going to do any damage, I had some faith in the 7 phones, it looked promising and they flopped, same with all the other electronic devices they touted, and I don't see this as being any different. I'm also pretty sure that win 8 will link with android, and iphones as well, since it would be suicide not to. I know they're not as powerful, but they do everything I need to do, and nothing comes close to it in convenience, speed, simplicity, and portability. I don't want a keyboard or mouse either since adding peripherals sacrifice portability. I'm pretty fast on the touch pad, it just takes some getting used to. I've owned net books, and they were great for what they do, but they're not even in the same market segment. To my understanding, they don't even sell them anymore in favor of the new slim line notebooks. My kind of work, can be done on a tablet, I totally understand that some people need something more full featured in some types of jobs, but I can do everything I want, and get way more portability. Hell... sometimes I skip the ipad all together and work straight from my phone. I'm definitely not alone. If you need more than that, definitely get some type of real computer. I have a couple friends that have rooted nooks. Nice for the price, but not even in the same ball park as far as quality. Edited by ilivas, Jun 19 2012, 02:09 PM.

I met a guy that works for google recently. They have a huge facility right by my house. (My county agreed for them to be tax free for 10 years if they would move operations to my town to provide jobs for the community. Consequently, they moved here and relocated all the employees here instead of hiring the locals. He told me they had been doing this for awhile, and Google has their own planes and everything, although sometimes they source out. He also told me they have an inhouse division that does wild and crazy shit just to do it. They started working on the car that drives itself for example. Edited by ilivas, Jun 19 2012, 02:15 PM.

yea we are headed into sci fi land pretty quick, ever though a tech company would be flying planes over your head taking pictures? yikes. If i was your county i'd be removing that tax free 10 year break quick, nice sharp stick in the eye goog, but I don't expect anything less from that company.
yea netbooks are almost toast. Its really the OEMs that killed them right from the start, its like they said oh cheap computer, make it as bad as we can get away with. and 99% of them were all hunks of crap. too small, crappy proc, crappy ram, zero gpu, windows xp, or w7 shit edition, i mean they really laid the plague bad on those things. Mine is 2gb DDR3 (dual chan) with nvidia gpu so so atom, LED back light with decent res, 11.6 inches its pretty much the lowest acceptable thing I can actually get stuff done on, but HP would sell you this with even less single chan ram, agh its not a power house by any means but its a nice decent on the go machine. For my job I ALWAYS need a computer, I can't get anything done on anything less then a fully functional device. It's like anything else, there are always trade offs. You want something powerful, you sacrifice portability and power consumption. You want small, and portable, you sacrifice power. It's like a 4x4 truck, vs. a sports car. Neither can do it all, just choose the right tool for the job. |

yea, i have the power house mulit monitor desktop that gets used everyday for 8 hours, then grab the little notebook for travel time. Some people say they can work 100% from a laptop, but I don't understand how they do it. I've met a bunch of indie video guys that do everything on their macbooks and i'll be sitting there with them waiting on shit to render and im thinking do you have any mac towers back at your shop? you know they'd grind thru this WAY faster. Some are just clueless that a tower with 10x the processing power will process video faster, one girl was doing video on location and i set her up with a dual proc workstation to do all of her editing and rendering cause it was getting sick of waiting on her slow ass notebook. Then when she does stuff from her office and transfer me files... she does it on wifi EVERYTIME, i'll look at our transfer speed and say, hey... you on wifi? always YES. I always cancel right away and say GO PLUG IT UP TO THE BLUE CABLEEEEEEEEE photographers and video people are the worst, its like i gota teach them how to do their own job more efficiently I've run into more video people that can't even operate out of final cut its like they think step 1: buy apple product, step 2: learn final cut pro book, step 3: SUCCESSSSSSit really confuses them when they see my PC towers shredding their video stuff at light speed, yea im using a faster processor, and im using a CUDA application so my video card can get in on the action. they just stand there like this |
