Yeah, video editing is way way cpu intensive, and definitely one of those things that needs to be on a desktop. I'm not even sure why you would want to be on a laptop in the first place because that isn't something you do on the go. It's not like popping open your laptop, typing an e-mail, and calling it a day. You'll probably be sitting there for a pretty sizable amount of time. If I were doing that, I'd want a comfy chair, and a nice desk.

I also never understood gaming laptops... Battery life 8 minutes on high power... come on. Costs 3 grand, It weigh 26 lbs, and leaves 2nd degree burns on your lap. It's not something that someone is gonna take on the bus, and play a quick game of Diablo on the way to work.

yea I don't get it either but most of them carry around macbook pros, some of them will do some light work on the spot but i've seen more then a few take the laptop back to the office and continue work on the laptop. insanity

Yea i agree with the gaming laptop stuff 100%, it doesn't do anything good. If anything they are only handy to haul around to your friends house and so some light LAN stuff, but even then a little LAN box cube would do you better and be a hell of a lot cheaper.

I have to say...

Paint .net is pretty damn handy, i've been using it full time for a while and when you don't need a full photoshop / GIMP package that is easy to use.. BAM its got it all in there. I'd even say you could bump up to PS quality with this free program.

I know windows 7 upgraded their paint program where its not a box of crayons this time but hell they should just include this into the source and call it good. One hell of an image editor for the price of ZERO.

it doesn't, but its a complex mother fker just to do simple stuff.
same with gimp, you gota go around your asshole to get to your elbow.

with paint .net it seems all the everyday DUH stuff is right in your face instead of hidden inside of menus so you can hunt and peck around.

even if w8 phone just became the new blackberry for businesses it would be good.

Then there’s Windows Phone 8. When it deploys, it will have the same Windows kernel that runs most enterprise desktops and notebooks, and will be capable of running many of the same applications (with some minor changes). Corporate developers will be able to build native apps for Windows Phone 8 without much difficulty, and the Microsoft Office suite will be available as well.

This is the part I think where w8p is going to stand out above the rest, just that alone is pretty huge and a pretty good move in MS's part. Back in the mid 90s early 00's MS term was "windows everywhere" and they did that..... it went everywhere, now phones are sporting GB of mem and 1ghz processors someone over there said JUST PUT WINDOWS ON IT. DUH!!!! ecosystem now sealed.

BUTTTTTTTTTTT..... i had a smartphone before anyone even made a smart phone. I laugh when i see the new droid touch, cause my old vz6700 had a keyboard, and a stylus.. but when the iphone came out everyone in the universe said styluses SUckckkcckckckckckckck fingers man fingerrrrssss. then i watch all these phones come out with slide out keyboards, connection tethering and stuff i had years before any of this was even a thought.

Maybe its like the tablet, they had that idea loonnnggg ago, just never went anywhere. They come up with lots of cool stuff maybe just to far ahead of its time.

I really, really want the windows phones to do well.... phone + xbox + pcs = awesome love orgy of integration. I think they gotta do more then just say what they can do, and are capable of, and spouting out tech specs. They need some whiz bang factor... like apple for example with siri, after they went over all the specs, and bull shit, they showed off SIRI. OMG, you can tell it to do anything, and it will, and people freak out and throw their credit cards at apple. MS needs something like that, which no one else has really done... kind of like they when they announced kinect, and it was something way out of left field that no one had ever thought of.

I was big into the smart phones early too... Before all that, I had an original palm pilot, a hand spring, a palm iii, palm v, windows ce phones, pocket pc, etc. I had the massive bricks with the fold out keyboards, and stylus. I also had a blackberry 7000 series, pearl, 8000, 8120, 9000, 9800, 9600. iphone, iphone 3g, iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad, 2 x ipad 3...... As you can see I'm a big fan of portables electronics.

Don't even get me started on mp3 players... I had the original diamond rio 32 MB from 98, and the 2nd gen 128 mb version. Owned all kinds from sony, ms, sandisk, apple, etc.

I had a tablet laptop too when MS thought they were the next big thing, and bombed. I think the problem was, at the time we just couldn't make them small enough, and they didn't have any OS built from the ground to be on a tablet . Mine was huge, heavy, and the OS that supposedly supported it was kinda halfassed and the tablet was obviously an after thought. I never really used the tablet portion because it just didn't work well.

The Styli? Styluses? do suck though.... I'm glad we're past that. I'm also glad that the keyboards aren't doing well, my windows phones were HUGE. The only company to do a keyboard right is blackberry. They did really well on the pearl also.

I guess something has to keep dragging that damn old ass hunk of shit around.. win8..... keeping xbox around for another year.

how old is the 360 now? 7 years old.... holy crap :rof :rof :rof are they trying to break a record with it or something.

In either version, an Xbox 360 controller can be plugged directly into the machine and button-demanding genres like FPS, action, and fighting games can finally be realized on a tablet.

OMG>>>>>>> they are including the xbox controller driver WITH THE OS SO YOU CAN PLAY GAMES WITH AN XBOX CONTROLLER>..................... everyone has only been doing this F-O-R-E-V-E-R. :ha quick 10 second download from MS and good to go.

========================================

also didn't you just say MS needs to step out of consumer elec all together and give up...... yet you sleep with your 360 every night?

I've never seen a tablet where you can plug in an xbox controller, that is pretty new.

I didn't mean that MS should give up on the gaming market.... they're obviously very successful in that market. Everything else MS is making... not so much.

Well its not new since it is running a full windows OS. Thats why I like this thing, 1st tablet thats got a real OS. Whatever windows can do, it can do.. just given its got the ports to support it.

Hopefully it works out for them... That model didn't work before, and it turned out pretty bad. So far, OS' built from the ground up for mobile devices are the only things that have worked. Maybe MS will do better this time, and there will be very few compromises. Personally, I'd rather MS make a stripped down version of Win8 designed specifically for their tablet so it will run butter smooth. Let's face it, these tablets aren't going to be very powerful if they want halfway decent battery life, and an OS optimized for faster PCs, may or may not work well on something where battery life, and size is priority number one.
