Nurburgring... hah, private company that couldn't do things well. 1st comment: "guess they spent all their money bailing Greece and Spain!" Seriously, i'm fed up of this shit. |

Yao Ilivas - how difficult are 04-05 WRX's to work on? I need to start seriously looking around for a new DD and a WRX is on my list. I've seen the engine bay, and they look like they'd be a nightmare to work on, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. How difficult is to do anything from general maintenance to basic bolt on engine repair? I'm pretty capable with repairs as long as I at least have a guide or know what I'm doing, but I'm not like Corey who can rip out an engine on his lunch break. btw, other cars I'm looking at are an 08ish Mazda3 hatch, or a well documented 03-05ish Golf TDI. I know VW's are pretty shitty, but I've been reading up on them and it seems like if the proper maintenance is done on the TDI's theyre pretty bulletproof. Getting a TDI is a stretch tho...I'd have to find a good deal on one where I thought the seller knew cars and had some sort of proof hes been doing the maintenance, so thats a long shot. but yeah, i wanna spend 10-12k, has to be manual unless its a truck or SUV, and decent on mileage. I only plan on keeping for 2-3 years tops so I would prefer something that holds value well, but after the GTO the bar isn't sent too high

It's not hard... looks are deceiving in it. It's not quite honda, or evo easy, but it's pretty easy to work on. It's much easier to work on, especially if you remove the non essentials like replace air box with an intake, replace turbo heat shield with aftermarket, etc. Everything should be easily accessible, and parts are cheap. Throw on a full exhaust, and reflash, and you have a nice low 13 sec car, that is reliable, peppy, versatile, and torquey. After owning a VW, I will say steer clear of them, they are a nightmare to work on, and their parts are insanely expensive. I vote WRX obviously... 25mpg if you're easy on it, great awd system, and option of a hatch. It has enough torque to tow light things like jet-skis, or a small trailer. Roof rack accessories are obviously plentiful also. Edited by ilivas, Jul 23 2012, 12:45 PM.

its been a very long time for me... I think the last REALLY GOOD one was 10 years ago. very very long day at work, came home around 6pm as norm, fell flat on the bed and went to sleep, woke up around 8:30....and it being summer time 8:30 am and pm look around the same if you are looking at them in a stupid state of mind. So I woke up freaked out thinking i slept a solid 12 and ATE breakfest quick, got in my car and started driving back to work...... noticing people around me didn't look very work dressed in traffic...... get on the hwy and the radio finally clues me in that nope it isn't the next day. get off the next exit, go home... wow what a fking time warp that was.
