^What should it be made of then? :ha Original porch was made a long time ago, out of non-pressure treated wood. This new porch made out of PT will last a looooonnnngggg time.

Going to reuse the original metal railing, it is going to be repainted and the roof support posts cut down a few inches to compensate for the thicker decking.

Imagine this made of steel, painted to prevent rust. Then put the wood over the steel structure.
After this, you'll only have to change this pieces of wood when rotten, and maybe repaint the structure after lots of years...

Wood will last a long time, especially if maintained properly.

Yeah I mean we only put up the new porch in about six hours! I can only imagine the cost to do it in steel also, or the extra stuff we would need to handle the weight of steel beams. The old porch has been around as long as I could form memories, it was probably over 30 years old, never repainted, and made out of non-pressure treated wood.

The new porch is pressure treated wood, it will probably outlast me. :ha
