also a board or whatever you have had underneath it... a bottom mounted power supply sucking right off the carpet is NOT a good thing, it will be dust filled in no time flat

if the usb ports on the front are blue that means you plug them into a USB 2.0 header on your motherboard, if your motherboard doesn't have a USB 2.0 header leave it dead and unplugged. It actually could be 3.0 but you'd have to read the case manual... either way same applies. Case manual - motherboard manual, you'll find it.

windows is not taking your CD key? do you have a retail or OEM version........... or an under the table kind.

when you boot into windows it will not see an un partitioned hard drive, you have to go into the disk mananger and partition the hard drive, then format it, you will then see the disk under "my computer" windows actually does SEE the drive but if it doesn't have a partition it won't display it,,, instead its just "DISK 2"

Right click on "computer" head to "manage" you'll see it... play around you'll figure it out.. i think you have to initialize it 1st then partition... then format.

I hooked up the black USB ports on the right. They're just a standard plug that I see everyday, and it plugged straight into the motherboard.

The blue usb ports on the left are about twice the length of the other ones and there is no place on the motherboard that looks like it can fit.

I'm using a legit windows key. I have a discounted windows pro upgrade with a student discount straight from MS store.

I may not worry about it though because I'm going to be ordering an SSD tonight anyways, and probablygetting WIN 8 next month on release date.

I'm definitely going to rig something to where it's not sitting on the floor.

yea thats USB 3.0 then, your board doesn't have 3.0 headers, just go hide the hanging wires.

if you have a legit version call up MS and see what gives... after you double triple check you aren't fat fingering, also you said "UPGRADE" which meansss upgrade from what? upgrade disks almost never install from scratch, or they atleast ask for the upgrade from media to continue.

windows 8 will drive you nuts on a normal desktop, save your sanity and just install windows 7.... save win 8 for later and test the water, don't jump right in.

at any rate I can get you a windows 7 ISO that will not ask questions.

Apparently, I have onboard usb 3.0, but no connectors for external 3.0 ports.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130650

I finally got the windows key squared away. It just started working all of sudden.

You were right, I forgot to format my other hard drive, which is why it wasn't detected.

I made a mistake also, I installed the OS, and all that on the slower hard drive. I'm in the process of creating an image, and loading the image on the faster hard drive. The two hard drives are both the same size, and brand so it was an easy mistake to make. I installed the sata plugs backwards too, I gotta correct that.

Fuck it... Ordered this SSD. I'm just gonna wait on that. I managed to pick one up before the deal went dead.

I also ordered a wired xbox controller.

Is there any way to install steam games on my 2nd hard drive? I didn't see an option to choose the install directory of downloaded games.

What is your Steam tag? I should be under camar0corey on there. I wish sn00zie would get a headset. :ha Same deal with his pal Gary, we will be playing D3 and he spends half his time typing. Its 2012 man, use speech! You can't be typing while fighting two champion packs at once on Inferno!

yea you have USB3.0 on the back but you don't have any USB 3.0 headers to feed the front.

this is pretty normal, you'd have to be really hunting to find a board that had 3.0 headers.

drive stuff haha yea i normally just get the base stuff in the case and do my install, then i'll go back and add in cards and extra hard drives.... so much stuff can hang a computer or go wrong right outa the gate I don't even bother, its 1 HD and onboard video for the windows install.

also when you get your SSD installed you'll want to go make sure your hard disk write caching is disabled and you have ACHI mode turned on in your bios.

I need to work on overclocking later too. It has some auto-OC shit in the bios, but I read that it sucks and I need to do it manually.

most tools all work from windows.

ATI has their tool built right inot the driver called "overdrive" or something, you can unlock it and let it auto tune which it actually does a pretty good job at... going past the auto tune settings normally results in a frozen screen.

like i said i wouldn't worry about overclocking until you actually run into the need to due so, you are running the stock cooler with the crappy paste pad. You've also have plenty of juice sitting there.

125W, and about 48 C CPU temp, I think. I will need to check again.

The case ventilation is actually really good. It's the first one I have had where it was blowing out cold air.

yea your case has plenty of fans, and those 180 MM fans on the top and it looks like you have one in the front move air like a ceiling fan.

118, not so bad on a stock cooler, you can drop it 10F with just a simple aftermarket I have one of these it was cheap and works good.

So like corey during game play you should see your temps to up to 130 / 140

grab coretemp, you can set it to auto start and sit in your system tray... it also can be set to display Fahrenheit.

my 3.4 stays around 88 idle and 110 in game play.. hottest I've seen it get was 120. But this is a lower wattage CPU cause im working more then gaming.

Going from structural steel to helicopter parts is one hell of a change! In steel we had a tolerance of 1/8 of a inch new job its .0060 We have a machine in the Qc department that measures .0000083 the tempature has to stay at 72 deg year round in the room that holds that machine! Otherwise it won't hold that tolerance.
