Nah, I'd refuse to believe that. I mean they added a channel that plays 90% car shows, there are more car shows, I saw two decent late 90's Mustangs yesterday, the night prior a snotty sounding C6. Now that it is summer I have seen a decent amount of vintage iron driving around. Met a person who took my Dad's rusted to hell 66 Impala off his hands, he is working on a numbers matching 67 Camaro and a gasser Bel Air.

I don't think the auto hobby is ever going to die. Even when everything is powered by who knows what, I think people will figure out how to make them faster, handle better, etc...

I wonder how long it will be before manufacturers completely lock the ECU's? It took 2 years for them to crack the ECU on my car for instance.

Yep, i think it will never die.

About how to make car faster... I'm thinking a lot about a technical trouble in our concept car.
We have 4 motors, 175kW peak for 60 seconds (=700kW x 60s). We plan to put a super-capacitor to give that power.

But we have to mix it with batteries for the common usage...
If we want to get rid of the capacitor, we will need around 2500lbs of batteries, not because we want big mileage with a single charge, we need it because of the power density! with less batteries, we would have our peak power capped.

So, we might use that capacitor for the peak power, and put less batteries for the common usage (continous power=340kW)
But even this way, we need over 1200lbs of batteries. Not a good deal yet.

Sooo, i'm thinking about limit the continous power by using less batteries, that will give us the same mileage for less $$$ and less Lbs...
But maintaining the peak power (around 900hp) with the capacitor.

What am i trying to say with this??

In the future, just with batteries and some hardware, you can unlock a lot of power. This field is changing so fast, in 5 years batteries' price will be 1/4 and power and energy density will be x4.

To my knowledge Chrysler is the only one out of the big three that has gone out of their way to lock down the ECUs? I think GM almost encourages it, your warranty is voided but they don't bother. Hook up EFI Live or HP Tuners and go.

SRT-8's have superchargers now right? Probably them trying to keep people who want forced induction happy while trying to prevent aftermarket tuning. Stupid move for a performance vehicles if you ask me.

True Toxic, there are always advances in time. Hell I can't believe you can buy a 32" LED TV for under $300, growing up $300 bought you a clunky 19" monstrosity. :ha Only a matter of time until battery tech is a lot better off.
1200 lbs. of batteries are a lot. What is the weight of the car besides the batteries? A possible advantage is you could corner weight the car by distributing the batteries?

We expect the car to be somewhere between 2400 and 3300 lbs, including batteries.
BTW, we may use half the battereries, like 700lbs.
