This is more senseless than dumb...but thought I'd post this here anyway. Not sure if this made national news or not, but I know the victim in this story. I only met her briefly, and have vague memories of her from when I coached volleyball at the club she played at in highschool. I was there during breaks from school as an extra coach to run drills and training and stuff like that. She was 1 of hundreds of players at the practices so I didn't really get a chance to know her all that well, but my brother was a fulltime coach there and she played on his team for 2 years. He saw her at practice 5 days a week, plus weekend tournaments for 2 straight years...knew her family, parents, siblings, friends. She actually baby sat for his kids 2 weeks ago....they are young and it was the first time they trusted anyone besides our immediate family to babysit their kids (they are 3 and 1). She had everything going for her...hell my brother even had her out to dinner to talk to her about coming on board as a sales rep since she recently graduated...then this happened. Nobody knows why but they think it's a botched robbery at 230 in the afternoon....crazy. She was on her way to the alumni volleyball match. My brothers gone through quite a bit emotionally in the last week. In the span of 5 days, his good friend lost his wife to cancer, our grandmother passed away, and now this. 3 funerals in a week...it's terrible. I hope the family finds the piece of shit that did this, but i really don't think they have any leads or anything other than 5'10-6' black guy....which is like finding a needle in a stack of needles in St. Louis. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/20/megan-boken-former-st-lou_n_1810962.html?utm_hp_ref=college |

agh!!! yea then the cops do find this guy, and all he gets is a murder charge and 3 square meals a day paid for by the state for 25 years. when what he really needs is a slow death by paper cuts. |

I got lost in St Louis (due to my Tom Tom) I found out real quick that St Louie is a ghetto! I went down one way streets and ran stop signs to get my ass back on the highway Also punched the shit out of my TOM TOM too. That was the only time I got lost driving across country. |

St. Louis is a great city, went there a lot when I was going to school at Southern Illinois because its only about 1.5 hour drive. Great city but yeah if you go to the wrong part....good luck. Worst part is, it's very easy to wander over to the shitty parts on the east side by accident. But she wasn't anywhere near that part of the city. She was by the university in the parking lot where she used to live for 3 years. It only takes one piece of shit to turn a nice area into a bad one. |

I've been through it... It's not a clean city by any means, but it's not near as shitty as detroit, oakland, or even atlanta.... These cities all smell like pee everywhere you go. |

yea, people living in communities need to kinda take their head out of their asses and keep and eye out for stuff... if everyone just hides in their hole waiting for the police to come, its not happening, your area will quickly go to shit if you don't do something. report fishy shit... OFTEN, they cops don't have eyeballs everywhere. I also wish cops like.... you know got outa the cars and walked around. I know in spawl hell its not really realistic to think they can do it with the amount of ground to cover but if the cops walked around and got to know people, and the people KNEW the cops they'd prob get a much better idea of stuff. instead they drive around and when people see a cop car they just think OH SHIT instead of hey whats up, cause the only time a cop is talking to them is when they are writing you a ticket or throwing your ass in the back of the car. |

Where I live cops are friendly with people. They get to know the people and all that. Benefits of a small town I guess. Southern way of life... I hate to push it again, but if more people would carry a gun things like this may not happen. You never know, you may just save a life. This has nothing to do with that, but I thought this was funny. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/dairy-queen-clerk-shoots-dead-samurai-sword-wielding-robber/ Edited by ilivas, Aug 21 2012, 12:38 PM.

True, one of the things my one instructor is always mentioning is how bad it was for companies to install A/C and FM radios in cop cars. He always reflects that back in the day windows were down in the cruiser and people felt like they could interact with officers, and officers could hear what is going on in the environment around them. That is a horrible tragedy, what is worse is most people do not just jump to armed robbery. The person has likely been on a downward spiral for a long time and no one has stopped it. |

Truth. I mean...honestly I don't know if she would have been able to get it out in time, or if it would have turned the tables on whos funeral people were attending, as I don't know all the details of what actually when down....but I think everyone should have the opportunity to at least try. I don't think concealed carry is going to save everyone that's put in danger, as pulling out your firearm to defend yourself in a moment like that is by far easier said than done, but I think everyone should have the chance and opportunity to do so. I feel I'm more liberal than conservative with social issues, but gun control and the right to carry is one subject I'm pretty right winged about. |

hmm...I'd have to disagree. There are some dirty parts, but the downtown area is pretty clean. I really dont know enough about it to really argue a whole lot tho. I'm sure there are some shitty piss parts i'm not aware of. |

I agree with that. You're not going to automatically win every gun fight your in, but it does greatly increase your chances. First rule of being in a gun fight is... have a gun. I don't know about your friend's situation if she would of survived or not, because there are no guarantees. I feel it could only help, and not hurt though. Take the aurora, co shooting... Hypothetically if I was in that theater armed. He would of probably killed me, but I probably would of given him something to worry about... I may have killed him, injured him, or make him concentrate on me instead of the other innocent people... For that 10 or 15 seconds he has to deal with gun fire from me, that could of been an extra 30 or 40 people that had extra time to escape out the door, and if I die so 40 more people can escape, that's a good trade in my opinion. |
