Word has reached Rome that Consul Licinius died in a rearguard action. He led an action against Carnifex, and only the timely arrival of a Celtic army allied to Carnifex prevented a terrible loss for the rebel. Licinius, realizing he was outnumbered and now had a force on his flank, took Legio I and led them in a rearguard action to save the rest of the army. Most of Legio I, including their Legatus and the Consul himself, are said to have perished in the battle.
