As time has passed with the Hirtians in control of Roma, people have begun to come out of hiding and slowly, daily life is returning. One point of note is the normal younger news reader in the forum has been replaced by an older more overweight man. And he has been most energetic in his appeals to the people.

"My fellow brothers and sisters, it an honor to announce to you that our glorious 'liberatores', Spurius Hirtius Macedonicus and Decimus Flavius Titianus, have each been declared consules for the next term by the people! May the gods bless their term and offer guidance in these troubling times as rebels, Placcus Furius, Sextus Antonius Syricus and Septimus Pinarius Gallicus remain at large! In addition, our fine consules are aided by the election of Hirrius Vallentinus, Paullus Flaccus, Amulius Seianus, Gaius Hirtius, Vibius Tetrinus and Sertor Naevius Sepia as Praetores. Furthermore the people have elected Lucius Tarentius and Marcus Aelius as the two Aediles and Marcus Cassius as Trbunus Plebis Our noble and illustrious senate asks that proper prayers and offerings be given to these men so that they see their duties upheld with honor and integrity."

As this news was read to all those assembled in the forum, many were aware of small units of armed Romans still patrolling the streets. Some in the crowd cheered and clapped though most remained silent unsure how to take the news and were afraid to do more than to listen.

"In recognition of these events our noble consules are handing out bread and 10 denari, (10 average days wages) to every eligible citizen out on the Campus Martius for the next four days as a sign of their piety and their intentions to lead with consideration for the people!" he said with pride and in a booming voice.

At this the people all cheered as any many would at the sound of free coin and food, and already was doing well to sway those who were neutral over the whole fiasco. As one final bit of news the reader raised his hand and in a more direct and harsher tone said, "Our just consules remind all good citizens to give forth any and all information on the rebels and traitors of the state who have been so forth named, (list is handed out for all to see and posted in public places), a substantial reward is offered to any man who helps lead to the capture of these men. Be on the look out..."

People gossiped amongst themselves, knowing that many members of the senate had gone missing or fled before the arrival of the Hirtians but only some had made it out in time. Where several were was a large mystery though word was spreading that many rich men of the senatorial and equestrian and publican classes who had close ties to the previous leading men of the republic had gone missed. The popular rumor was they had been killed though fanciful stories abounded as to how and when this occurred as no direct witnesses have come forth with these events.

For better or for worse, many in Roma knew a new day had dawned on their sacred city.
