The ageing Galerius Valerius stood before the senate, nodding to his cousin Herius and smiled as he awaited his chance to speak...

"Esteemed Senators! I have returned from the dusty heat blasted lands of Egypt, where I was able to conclude a trade treaty which will benefit Roma's economy, I will put the trade treaty before this August body to scrutinise and then vote," He held up a scroll.

"Aegyptus agrees to trade terms with Roma, Aegyptus has agreed to lower grain prices in exchange for lower tariffs on wine and allowing the tax free trade of slaves between ourselves."

"Egypt also offers incense to be traded and shipped tax free to Roman ports,"

"My senatorial colleagues this is a fair treaty and one that will begin to allow our trade coffers to grow as merchants travel between our lands."

Galerius sat down gingerly.

Galerius rose from his seat and turned to face Galerius Valerius "Firstly I would like to acknowledge Senator Valerius’s steadfast dedication and excellent negotiation skills. When I recommended him for the task I was confident he would be able to obtain Roma a favorable trade deal. Let us all take a moment to applaud his efforts” Galerius began clapping followed by the rest of the curia.

After a few moment of applause to honor the elder statesmen he held held his hands again to gain the attention of the room “To the matter of the proposal I am in agreement fully with Galerius Valerius, this is not only a fair deal but one that will bring much needed trade into the republic. Lowering tariffs on wine will increase our wine exports as well as cut the dreaded price of grain. We save money and make money, I’m sure that our merchants will appreciate our efforts to put more coin in there pockets.”
