Dius Fidius
GM

Herius Valerius stood to present a message from the Praetor of Sicily.

"Senators,

I bring news of the situation in Sicily. The enemy forces on the island seem to significantly outnumber mine, but nevertheless I have defeated Macidonicus in a closely fought battle for the city of Panormus. Both sides took casualties and in particular I have lost the majority of my Calvary auxilia.

I want to give special mention to Decimus Cassius, a young tribune who led elements of the 9th over the walls. The 9th legion were essential to our victory in this assault and I am proud to be commanding them.

I intend to go on the offensive against Macidonicus's fortress Lilybaeum in order to force a decisive battle with him. More forces would be welcome in this endeavor but getting them to Panormus safely maybe challenging.

If the senate permits it I would like to serve my propraetorian term in Sicilia to finish what I have started."

Tiberius Valerius
Praetor Peregrinus

Tiberius Valerius rose, "Conscript Fathers, I see the Praetor's conquest of Panormus as a success, albeit one deserving of very cautious celebration... Because of the nature of the province of Sicilia, I do not believe we can appoint a Propraetor. However, it is within our rights to propose to the Comitia Centuriata the extension of imperium for Praetor Livius. I would suggest that we advise him to consolidate gains in Panormus and winter in the city while we gain an adequate naval footing to supply our armies on the islands. In the spring, we may send our newly-elected Praetor of Sicilia to open a new front on the island to assist Praetor Livius."
