This is where the liege or prefect of the city conducts business.

ZhangGao

Zhang Gao looked almost bored as the proceedings rambled on around him. Finally the officials stopped droning on, as if their words would have any true impact on the outcome. Zhang Gao shifted his considerable bulk and glared down at the man standing at the center of the room.

"Hu Bao you have been found guilty of treason, of collaborating with enemies of the state, of official corruption, of ..." He went on reciting the lengthy list of trumped up charges from memory. In truth, Hu Ba's only crime was failing to support Zhang Gao's stealthy coup over the previous prefect. Hu Ba was a loyal man and now that loyalty would be the end of him. "For your crimes there can only be one sentence - death. So that your death may deter others who hold treason in their heart, you will die at the city gaes by Er Sa."

Before the condemned official could utter a response, Zhang Gao waved he guards dragged him away. The show trial was over now and Hu Bao would die a slow death in the hanging cage. He was the last of the loyalists. The other officials of the city were either his co-conspirators or men pragmatic enough to sense which way the wind was blowing. Spineless sorts, but still they served a purpose and helped give his administration an air of legitimacy.

Zhang Gao glared down at the rest of his court and bellowed, "Let anyone who has business with this court come forward and he heard."

Zhang Gao's enormous frame was overflowing from his seat upon dias. He shifted slightly as Chung Mon arrived, looking the man over as he was announced. Silence hung in the air, as Zhang Gao initially seemed content to silently appraise the man before him.

Finally, long after the silence had grown uncomfortable, he spoke. "Welcome to Gui Yang, Lord Chun. It must be a rather pressing matter that would require you to journey all the way to the Southlands in person. Tell me, what business brings you here and what would ask of me?"

OOC: my journey here was originally as a result of you being so close but I may as well follow through.

"I simply came on a peacekeeping mission. I make it a priority to keep in touch with the ever rising leaders of this turbulent land. Furthermore, I wish to bring you a small tribute, a gift of good will - a small portion of my fortune."

Zhang Gao visibily perked up at the word tribute. A broad smile came over the corpulent ruler's face. "Missions of peace and good will are always welcomed in Gui Yang. It is good for those of us who have risen to positions of power to come together like this, in a spirit of friendship and cooperation."

"Tell me, how do things fare in the north? I've heard word of your victories there, but not much else."

"Things in the North are prosperous but there will soon be a fair bit of officer shuffling"

"Officer shuffling?" Zhang Gao quirked an eyebrow at that phrase as he repeated it. "New recruits coming in or old hands leaving?"

"A bit of both it seems. Nothing is constant these days"

Time's a-wastin', chum. Pay up and we can get started.
As if exactly on cue, Junjie set foot upon the interior council tiles. He noted Chung Mon's presence ahead of him, but did not recognise his former benefactor from behind.

His brash, confrontational attitude held in check while in the presence of a collection of men who could have him killed at any time, Junjie waited patiently to be addressed.
