Code Name: Match-head

Birth Name: Pete Carpenter

Appearance: An unmoving skull carved from flawless ruby wrapped in the branches of a small, dead tree which acts as a body, roots and branches thrashing like tentacles.

Personality: Match-head is extremely unsympathetic to the plights of others. He has a very good sense of humor, but it is a very cruel humor. He is caustically sarcastic and both astonishingly condescending and competent.

Origins: Pete’s control over dead plants is inborn. He’s always been able to do that. Despite this incredible power, magic has always been a real passion of his. As he learned more and more, he came to realize that magic is real and decided to devote his life to collecting magical artifacts. To aid in this quest, he trapped his soul in an indestructible ruby skull so that he could not be killed by conventional means. His signature weapon, The High Wizard’s Spear, one of the most powerful magical artifacts in or out of existence, was stolen from Malark the Ancient, “High Wizard of the Realm.” Malark put up quite a fight, especially since Match-head never bothered to learn any spell-casting, but Match-head eventually just wrestled the Spear from the geezer and ran the coote through with it. I mean, it was still a spear, after all. Anyway, he collects objects of great power because he wants to if people get hurt, then they should’ve stayed out of his way.

Powers:
-Soul housed in an indestructible, ruby skull
-Mental control of any dead plant material
-The Archmage’s Spear lets him cast any monosyllabic word as a spell
-It is also a spear
-Collection of peculiar magical objects

Skills: Match-head has an extremely long attention span. He is patient and determined. He has become quite adept at researching occult secrets and is surprisingly knowledgeable, especially since he, unlike most modern mages, has never studied magic formally.

Interests: Magical artifacts; world history, especially art history; classical music, particularly opera; mechanical workings; green technology

Weaknesses:
-Ruby skull is immobile on its own
-Body is very destructible
-Spear cannot be used without a body to wield it
-Spells from the Spear are limited by syllable
-Spells do not recognise intent, homophones and homonyms are a problem
