Code Name: Nerys Birth Name: The Terror of Marshwood. Appearance: A gigantic spider the size of a two-storey building. Personality: Nerys is an utterly terrifying monstrosity, with jointed, carapaced legs, hair as thick and strong as twisted steel, giant two-toed claws on each foot, a bloated abdomen the size of a 4-person house and glistening, needle-sharp fangs that could pierce through a school bus. Which is a pity, because she has a very sweet personality. Nerys wants nothing more than to be a heroine, to be loved for doing what she feels is her calling in life (namely, saving people). She is forever distressed when the people she saves run screaming in terror. They're safe, and that's what really matters to Nerys, but still... it gets her down. As a towering abomination of Science!, Nerys isn't easy to intimidate, but she does try to avoid guns and other projectile weapons if at all possible – her soft abdomen lacks any natural protection, and being the storage for her spinnerets, it's quite important to keep it bullet-hole free. Nerys' personality could be most accurately described as 'doting mother figure'. In a possible holdover from when she was a mundane spider, Nerys has a strong nurturing instinct, especially where children are concerned. How this instinct translated itself from spider-babies to human-babies is anyone's guess, but there it is. Origins: Originally a spider living between a pair of tall reeds outside a research facility in the (marshy) forest of Marshwood, Nerys was exposed to a powerful mutagen that caused her to grow to gargantuan size, and gifted her with incredible strength and human-like intelligence. Unfortunately it didn't gift her with human-like vocal chords, and after accidentally crushing the research lab when she attempted to climb on top of it, she spent her formative hours being chased every which-way by the armed forces, trying in vain to convey her desire to be friends through a series of spine-chilling clicks and hisses. Eventually escaping her pursuers, Nerys stumbled across Trojan's country estate. He found this non-aggressive monstrosity quite fascinating, and after a great deal of work, he managed to break the language barrier and provide her with a rough outline of where and who she was. This was also the point where she was given her name, and decided to become a heroine – Trojan was against this, but wasn't about to leave Nerys to the wolves, and so became her sidekick/partner in heroing, in order to help keep her out of harm's way. Powers: Despite being the size of a two-storey building, Nerys is very agile, retaining enough leg strength to climb up the side of skyscrapers, hold up crumbling bridges, and throw a human-sized object from one end of the central business district to the other. Her biting strength is also fearsome – she can sink her fangs all the way through a bus in a single stroke, and a tank would need very heavy armour to be invulnerable to her bite. She seldom gets to use it, but her fangs can inject an incredibly lethal venom – several gallons of lethal venom, in fact. If anyone got round to assigning her a biohazard rating, she'd be at the top of the scale, simply due to the fact that her venom sacs carry enough neurotoxin to kill the entire population of Starlight City. Finally, Nerys can make use of her web spinnerets. She can spray a sheet of web fibre to entangle opponents. Alternatively she can use her instinctive web-spinning skills combined with her augmented intelligence to create elaborate structures – a giant trampoline for people to jump down on, or replacement cables for a suspension bridge in the process of collapsing. Skills: Nerys has no specific skills, having had neither opportunity nor time to specialize in any particular field. Interests: Currently, Nerys is interested in anything and everything. She is still exploring the vast wealth of knowledge that sentience is letting her explore. Weaknesses: Sharp, heavy projectiles. Being called horrible things. Stick and stones of course (not that she has any bones to break), but it really gets to her all the same. Edited by wanderingbishop, May 30 2012, 07:22 AM.
