Code Name: Gargoyle Birth Name: Kiva (no last name) Appearance: Kiva could be described as 'humanoid,' having two arms, two legs, and a generally upright posture with a shape recognizable as feminine to human eyes; with the properly obscuring clothing in the right setting, she could likely walk down the street with only the occasional odd look based on said clothing. However, the devil is in the details, as they say. Her skin is jet black and lustrous, making her look like she, or at least her skin, is made of obsidian, though someone expecting her to be as brittle as that suggests will quickly be disappointed, and her hair, usually pulled back, looks as if each strand was carved from some sort of transparent crystal, despite having the same flexibility as human hair. Her skull is largely in the same shape as a human's, but her upper and lower jaw extend out to form what looks like a short, hooked bird of prey beak, but is filled with numerous sharp teeth that look like they're made of the same material as her hair. Her eyes are bright turquoise, with no visible pupils or whites, and occasionally glow. This transparent material also makes up the small hooked claws at the end of each of her fingers and the larger claws on her three-toed feet. More of it covers her shoulder-blades and runs along her spine in large diamond-shaped 'scales' to the base of her thick tail, which is tipped by yet another hooked, stinger-like claw. Personality: Kiva, by nature, is largely amoral. She protects herself and what she perceives as 'hers,' but has little compassion for the average human being. She doesn't particularly want to hurt or kill them unless provoked, but at the end of the day they mean no more to her than an animal. That isn't to say that she considers herself better than humanity, just that she doesn't see much point in caring about those that aren't her kind. Which, unfortunately, is everyone. If there were others of her kind, she would instinctively be driven to care about them, but there aren't, so she substitutes this with irrational, magpie-like greed most of the time and the occasional creature that she 'adopts.' This can be anything from a dog to a human, and they can attract her attention with anything from an unusual appearance to odd behaviour. The most surefire way, however, is to extend kindness toward her, which can be as simple as not being hostile or afraid at the sight of her. She tends to lose interest eventually, however, and return to an apathetic state. Origins: A rich man with far too much ego decided he not only needed a restored ancient castle to live in, but a magic gargoyle to protect it. He paid good money for someone to magically craft such a creature, but the wizard who took the job had his own reasons for doing so. He wanted to create a race of magical creatures that he could use for his own ends, and his employer had the resources from which he could do just that. He made his first, a female named Kiva, giving her pack instincts and strong desire to protect her own, but before he could make the Adam to her Eve, he was paid and sent away, because his employer only wanted one. Kiva roamed the castle, occasionally leaving it to eat, and her 'master' largely left her to her own devices, rarely even acknowledging her presence when he came across her prowling in the halls. To him, she was simply a security system, no more 'alive' than the castle itself. That turned out to be his undoing when Kiva's creator came back years later and stormed the castle with a number of constructs of similar design to Kiva, killing him and trying reclaim her. While she didn't lift a claw to protect her so-called master, the attempt to take her from her castle resulted in violent retaliation. The constructs, while similar in appearance to Kiva, were made with sub-par materials and were programmed as drones, their only purpose to assist in the fight. She smashed through over half of them and severely wounded her creator before finally fleeing into the night. The combined efforts of the constructs had managed to injure her, the ribs on one side her body caved in, one of her arms broken in two places, and large chunks of her tail and numerous back scales missing. Once she was far enough away from the castle, she collapsed and, for the first time, fell into a very deep sleep... ...And woke up months later in another rich man's art collection in Starlight City. Uh oh. Powers: Stone-Made: Kiva is extremely durable, made from a special magically-infused stone that is difficult, but certainly not impossible, to break. She has no recognizable blood or organs to speak of; breaking her just reveals more stone (and leaves a sharp edge more often than not), though she does have recognizable bones made of the same material as her claws, teeth, and hair. She doesn't seem to need to breathe to survive, though she does require it to talk, and doesn't normally sleep more than a hour or two a day. She does, however, need to eat, but she solely consumes earth, stone, and metal and only needs to eat once every two weeks or so. Needless to say, she's very hard to kill as a result; completely shattering her could possibly do it, but, obviously, no one's gotten the opportunity to do that to see if it works. Stone-Sleep: If injured somehow, Kiva regenerates in her sleep. But while a small chip here and there tends to only require an extra hour or so, severe injury could result in her entering a stasis that lasts for weeks or months in which she is entirely immobile and vulnerable. She's only done the latter once, and she'd rather not do it again, but falling into the sleep is entirely involuntary. Skills: She's very good at climbing, and has a surprisingly good aim when it comes to throwing projectiles, even at a far distance. Interests: Stealing and hoarding objects, climbing, exploring, people-watching. Weaknesses: As stated above, can't control her stone-sleep. She's also potentially vulnerable to magical attacks despite her resistance to physical assaults. Edited by Windchime, Aug 11 2012, 06:26 PM.
