IDK this can be discussed here or in Forum Disc but since its sorta a complaint I'm posting here you know? Arti's polls are just as irrelevant and OT as the AW, cousins, creeper, etc OT topics everyone is tired of and routinely tell bishes to go to the chat thread like you mods said.

That's why I think from here on out you should tell Arti, and anyone else that makes a poll but lets face it Arti is about the only poll maker here, to post and promote her polls in the chat thread exclusively or at least not in the SNSD thread.

The only polls that should be in the SNSD thread are official polls for this forum and outside official polls that deal directly with SNSD.

Or else any bish can make a poll post it in the SNSD thread then when results come we have discussion about things that have jack shit to do with SNSD. Arti makes a fuckton of polls about whatever BS she comes up with, this isn't a slight towards her just saying there's a place for everything and the SNSD ain't it.
You might have a point! They do tend to spark discussions about the results that aren't strictly directed towards the girls, more what the people voted for, so it becomes more of a conversation about the users' opinions rather than the actual subject of the poll, which in this case was pairings.

However! Might I suggest that I post the link in the thread where the poll subject is directly linked to the girls, like this one was, and then post the results in the Chat Thread in the hopes that people will discuss it there instead of the main thread? If I only promote them in the Chat Thread, hardly anybody would see it, and that would defeat the purpose of having the poll in the first place, which is to see how the opinions of the users on the thread tend.

What do you think?
Problem is if you promote in the main thread, post results in the chat thread and then link the results post in the main thread again, people will just quote that post and discuss it in the main thread defeating the entire point of keeping OT out.

Don't mean this in a bad way but if hardly anybody sees the poll links because they are in the Chat thread then so be it, after all the polls are yours. You are the one with the interest in them, you are the one using the people in this forum as fodder for opinions on subjects you want to know people's opinions on. So like all the other irrelevant shit, even if you make them about "something" SNSD, they are still only marginally connected to SNSD. When polls are made people discuss the results and nothing else.

And again, the point is it doesn't matter what the topic of the poll is, unless it about the forum or an official poll that directly deals with SNSD and somehow affects them like some SMTown poll or freaking Popdust (though I guess people can argue about Popdust  ) then the SNSD isn't the place for it.
SA Also would like expand and say this is probably the reason why every time you make a poll there are some negative reactions to them. I sense some resentment from people. Imagine if every bish in this thread made a fucking poll about whatever the fuck they wanted "SNSD" being the topic or not then posted the results in the thread. Imagine if there were more like you Arti, in terms of making polls at least. It would be massive fucking hell hole of OT and bishes rightfully complaining about it.

@Poll Anon I've actually had a lot more people tell me they like the polls rather than dislike them, and people generally seem to appreciate the results and/or insights into how this thread sees and feels about SNSD, so the odd person who complains isn't as important to me as the majority who seem to give me positive feedback for allowing that insight to happen.

It is mainly my interest and fascination that motivates me in making them, but seeing people respond to them as points for discussion (about the girls themselves, mind you, rather than the results themselves, which I agree are OT) is also a fairly big factor. In all of my polls, at least 80 people have voted, which is roughly around the average amount of users online at any given time, so it's not like you can say that the majority aren't interested in what the results will show. You'll also recall the other poll anon I half-jokingly side-eyed; you can't deny that the majority, if not all, responded and appreciated that opportunity, and voted on it accordingly. Allowing a vocal minority to ruin the enjoyment of the users who vote and respond to the results with interest, OT as that might be, would be quite unfair.

I think that perhaps we can compromise here. You'll probably say I'm approaching from a position of bias, which is definitely true! I enjoy my polls, I enjoy people responding to them, and I enjoy people appreciating the results, so I'm certainly going to be defending them. Having said that, though, you do have a very valid point when you say discussion about the results themselves are OT, but I feel I have a valid point when I say that these polls are a subject of interest as well, and putting a link up only in the Chat Thread would be alienating the polls from the target demographic, which are SGSD users on the main SNSD thread, many of which don't venture out of it. I can't blame them. Lately, the Chat Thread has been very cliqueish and I can see why that would put off someone from talking there - I've noticed there have been very few Anons who visit it, 5 seems be the average.

Perhaps if there is a rule in place that requires poll results to be discussed on the Chat Thread? Or, if I direct them to the link that I've placed in the Chat Thread, and only remind them to check it when I've posted the results? I think it's probable that users will reply where the results are located, although since I won't be making another poll for a while, so I won't have a chance to test this any time soon. How about I try doing that the next few times (2 or 3, maybe?) I make a poll, which will probably far into the future, and if that fails, I'll resort just to posting it on the Chat Thread like you suggest?

It was merely a side comment, people bitching or loving your polls doesn't make then less OT so that's not being considered here tbh. The same can be said by the numbers of respondents; 10, 30, 80, 100, 200 doesn't make them any more relevant either. The polls might be a subject of interest but so are the other irrelevant topics, the same way all the people that want to discuss AWs, cousins, etc have to do so in the Chat thread so should all others who want to discuss other OT subjects. Many liking a subject does not in any way affect it's relevancy.

Besides how many times do bishes in this place get told to take OT to the chat thread? Again and again, so there being a "rule" that results need to be discussed in the chat thread will do little to deter bishes who are too stupid or IDGAF to follow it.

Either way I wrote this up here because most of us are doing our part, mods included, to keep the SNSD on topic. Mods have made it clear OT is for the OT chat thread and they keep reminding people about the reg flirting/OT, the AWs, family members, the fights between users all that shit to the OT thread. But the polls is like an area that has been mostly ignored till now and I think it should be dealt with. Doesn't look good for some OT to be allowed when other isn't especially the type of OT that can run for pages on end.

This isn't about interest or disinterest or being anti polls, it's about a time and place for everything and the SNSD not really being the place for user created polls.

Sometimes it seems like we have a little dictator between us, trying to tell us what we can talk about and what we can't, etc. Now they even want to stop polls from being discussed in the thread? lmao. Reminds me of a certain someone... :hmmm:

@Poll Anon I don't think the polls themselves are really OT, the subject depending, because they are about SNSD and they are about the users' opinions on certain subjects about SNSD. The results themselves might be, which is why I'll post them on the Chat Thread, but the polls themselves are just a way of collating information so that there's more informed discussion going on.

I mean, if I asked, "What pairings do you ship?" on the thread itself, without a poll, that wouldn't be OT. So why is it OT if it's posed in the way of a poll, for easier collection, in an easier format than usual? It also creates a little bit of distance, too, so people can feel free to share their opinions without fear of being bitched at directly for either not shipping something, or not liking a certain member, or disliking a certain performance.

Well, the Anon is right in that it's a subject that's been ignored, and deserves to be at least talked about it. I don't think it's a problem to discuss it and try and find a reasonable compromise that keeps most people happy.

Very nice point. ^_^

But fact is polls generally spawn a discussion about the results themselves like I can't believe more people voted for this than that, how can you hate this or that, in other words questioning choices/opinions which leads nowhere and is OT. So it's not just about the polls being wholly/partly Ot or not but if they cause OT. Also, what is ultimately the aim of the polls? Is it not to satisfy your own curiosity? Even if someone told you to do a poll about 99.9% of the polls are your own inspirations. Would many of the subject of polls be on topic is discussed in the thread? Yes and that is the point, it is not the same to discuss a topic in the thread than to make a poll about it because a poll does not a discussion make and a poll about a certain subject could be made in a thousand different ways. Meaning whoever makes the polls sets the tone and parameters so they ultimately affect the results making polls less organic and relevant than discussions on threads. This latest poll should tell you and everyone else all they need to know. What was the result of it? Side eyeing's for choices? Incredulity at choices? Questioning of choices? This is what always happens and always will happen because the only thing people care about in polls is the results and that's all that will be discussed.

That's right Honey Boo Boo, if we can't express ourselves in the Complaints or FD threads, where can we? What are the threads for then? Arti and I having a nice dialogue, anyone welcome to share! :grouphug:

Yeah, that's also a good point! I would've hoped that the last poll would've spawned a discussion about the choices, yes, but more so that we could discuss what it was that made individual users vote for which option rather than "omg how could they", if you know what I mean. I supplied an essay box for that purpose, but as Yuwree didn't take it seriously, others might not have as well. That's unfortunate, but most people did seem to take it seriously, and I appreciated that, since the essay boxes provided some nice insight into opinions of users, and I would've hoped that this would springboard a more in-depth discussion.

So, for example, I think when I posted the results to my first poll, some people said "why was Yoona so unpopular?", and that sparked a discussion about what certain users think about Yoona, and why some might not like her, and the qualities that Yoona had, and what made Yoona as likeable as she is. I thought that was a nice conversation that the results had facilitated, since I think the thread got a lot of serious opinions out on her and we managed to have a fairly amicable discussion about one of the members that quite a few people got involved it. That's the sort of thing I hope to accomplish with my poll. I want people to see what others think, and discuss that.

In a way, that's discussing the results, but it directly concerns the girls and what we think of them. Polls offer a basis from which to talk, maybe giving inspiration to actually have an in-depth conversation with other Anons and Regs about the members or how gay they think the members were. Pointless side-eyeing people for choices isn't something I wanted to happen. I think, in part, this was due to the subject of the poll. I wanted to know what users had to say about shipping, and why they shipped what they did, and what exactly it was about the pairing that they liked, and what made them like that pairing. Maybe even talk about how legit they think the pairing is.

I didn't want fangirling, I wanted a proper discussion, y'know? Polls had gotten that in the past to some degree, but I guess I chose wrongly with this one. You're right when you say a poll doesn't necessitate a discussion, and it was proved with this one. It's unfortunate, but I had hoped perhaps it would happen, since it has done in the past.

I like the polls and any/all the discussion that comes from it. It's interesting and the thread could use more topics to talk about. Thread's pretty boring with only repetitive quoting and emoticon spam.

We started this place w/ an OT allowed motto (it's in the freakin banner) and now a days everything sounds a lot more like TLC before it ended. Some topics were rightfully banned because they literally lead no where but I think we should chill out with bringing up the rulebook over every little thing.

Also throwing shade at someone for making a poll is unbelievably childish. If you don't like em then scroll. Clearly some people do because they voted and when that other anon made a poll, people were asking for the results for days. (This is not directed at the anon who's been legitimately debating in this thread)

I think so too :nails: fucking rei, release your ip so you can get perma banned! lol

gotta be honest, I like polls once in a while, so we can have something to discuss about our own preferences, it's cool, I learned the hard way on TLC that nothing is 100% reliable cause of losers who like to troll on the internet  but still to see the results of what the users (regs and anons) think or like it's interesting. we are not here just to spam pics we're also here to create discussions.

Now, artichoke's obssession with polls is something weird, but as the previous poll anon I gotta give her some support here, at least for snsd oriented polls (not polls about the forum itself) maybe some bitches didn't like the girl of the month, but still there were votes bitches promoted their bias and when I was offline kind bitches made the count votes for me. Some people like it some people don't

tl,dr let the girl do her polls on the main, but once in a while

OT would be conversations that deviate from the girls, like the fancamers, aws, bns and such for example.

In this case, the conversation is not about Jessica, but of that fancamer who was rude or something.

I was against the opening a thread for shit like that but i changed my mind because it's getting annoying from both sides it's boring and there is nothing to talk about from one side so i don't blame them for talking about all that and from the other side some people are like the ot police you just say 2 words and some anon starts with take it to the chat thread.
we all know what and who the chat thread is for the majority don't even visit that thread anyway.

Personally, I prefer when the thread is quiet instead of having pointless discussions, especially when it's not relevant to the girls.

I know that a lot (if not most of the users) don't like visiting the Chat thread since there's only a handful of users who have taken over it (myself included) usually chatting with each other and they find it boring or whatever, but that's what that thread is made for; the same principle of 'if you don't like it, skip over it' would apply there if you took the OT convos there when it comes to the users chats.

So there's this whole KFany talk going on right now, I remember we voted to allow the discussion of media (not fan made) based rumors and that's how it was written in the rules. But now I checked the rules and there's no mention of straight rumors anywhere. So what's the deal? Is it a free for all right now here? Cause anyone can talk about a "rumor" of any of the girls with some dude when its just some shipper fans making noise. :ermm:
