I bet citizens from other countries would list the same, not saying your concerns are undue but unless its Happiest Place on Earth Denmark then I think most will have much to criticize. What is intriguing is the power of money, you can get much for so little.
oh money speaks alright, big time! And that pretty much affected our daily lives. I really cant fathom this Indonesian mentality, even police and fire brigade would have no shame asking you for money (and they're supposed to be the "public servant"). Dont even get me talking about our corrupted government.

Depends on what other countries tho, if you want to be stuck in a traffic for 2 hours daily (which only take perhaps 10-20 minutes with a normal traffic), breathe very polluted air, pays money for something you should'nt have just to get it done (and the list goes on) then yeah, Indonesia's great! Would probably be hard to understand if you havent experienced all these first-hand I think.

Speaking from a citizen point of view, it's getting harder and harder to love this country tbh. Well I love the culture and the food, but that's pretty much it.

Again it's only my opinion, sure there are others with different point of view

Sounds rough though it reminds me of countries of the old Soviet Bloc.

Might be fantastical but with the low cost one could just build a self-sustaining villa somewhere and not deal with people.

=_= I would.

I have...it's the most frustrating thing: driver's cutting people off left and right, the unbearable heat or rain and just forget getting anywhere on time if there's been a wreck; it sucks -_-

@Ihla: Hope things clear up soon!

Can I still meet HRH of Britain if s/he has a diplomatic visit? :(

And I have to admit, being from Manchester is worthy of laughter.

I won't speak about corruption because god knows this country is famous for it, but the traffic problem is particularly exclusive in Jakarta, no?
Well, most of regional capitals at least, but not all.

And we have so many islands, I don't think it's fair to generalize like that. Every region has its own problems. -_-

Yes perhaps the traffic problems only happen in big cities, I was born and raised and currently reside in Jakarta therefore Im listing it as one of its few problems because it's something that I have to endure everyday and Im done sitting for hours on a daily commute. Funny how you left out the bribing culture, it's one of the things I cant really stand about this country and that pretty much applies everywhere these days. No money, none of your shit done, and people were supposed to get these services for free (doing someone a favor isnt exactly a thing here). Not to mention how people just dont appreciate the time (jam karet is pretty much part of our culture, yes?). Plus other stuff that people just look down upon, from something as simple as queuing, disposing garbage properly and to such important matter such as animal rights (remember that case about Surabaya zoo?).

Foreigners would be having a hard time adjusting to this kind of environment (since initially we were having this convo because this one anon wants to live here lol)

It's amazing how much time we. An waste on the road, this is the main reason why I hate driving. No other choice this time though, had to drop someone off at the airport. Wouln't take longer than two hours usually, but this transit officer decided to be an asshole and closed off the road on our way back; it was his fault to beging with, idiot went in the way at an intersection, stopped and backed away in the middle of a the damn freeway! Then he had the balls to close said intersection because some people complained about his illegal driving!

He kept us there for a good while. I can't with the mediocre & corrupt officials in this city. Traffic was still crazy on other points of the city because of construction and shit. Took me some good 5 and half hours all in all. Heat din't help at all, had a headache when I got back home.
