Mhm Idk... I really like that Muhammad Ali quote about impossible is nothing. It's inspiring.

(Actually, I like to print inspiring quotes and put them on my room walls... I don't even know who said some of those...lol)

I really like this one;

Rousseau - Discourse on the Origin of Inequality

The philosophers, who have inquired into the foundations of society, have all felt the necessity of going back to a state of nature; but not one of them has got there [...] Every one of them, in short, constantly dwelling on wants, avidity, oppression, desires and pride, has transferred to the state of nature ideas which were acquired in society; so that, in speaking of the savage, they described the social man.

Sometimes I find quotes by Hitler or Stalin or Mussolini or someone equally as reprehensible and ascribe it to someone famous for civil rights and then watch all the hipsters pretend they already knew about it and how said civil rights heroes said it just for my own amusement.

They work very well in tandem with each other, so I agree that they're great quotes.

"Expect the unexpected." - I somehow always say this to myself, specially during exams.

Also, one of my former philosophy professors likes saying this in class so it kinda stuck to me. . ."It's life, shit happens."

Haha, that reminds me of one my friend told me, which is... "No matter how famous, or powerful, or beautiful, or intelligent, they shit. Everyone shits. Shit comes out of them".

I've kept that saying with me, kind of like a chronic illness.

"March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path." -Kahlil Gibran.

Actually, I'd quote most of Kahlil Gibran's writings. He has a certain way with words and a perspective on life that's just beautiful. I highly recommend The Prophet. Though prose poetry might not be your thing.

this helps me a lot and it is so true:

The future has many names: For the weak, it means the unattainable. For the fearful, it means the unknown. For the courageous, it means opportunity.

Squeee! There's another person who loves his work.

I'm genuinely so excited. I've yet to meet someone in-person who knew about Kahlil Gibran, which saddens me since he's just too awesome.

and @Arti: Read The Prophet! It'll be a much better read than Mein Kampf (and lighter reading than Mill's On Liberty. :P ).

Philosophical works are interesting in a separate way than poetry, but I think both are just as good as each other. I'm pickier about poetry than I am about philosophy, though. :P
But, I'll definitely look it up. I'm always open to new recommendations.

Mein Kampf was hilarious, though. I was reading it like, "huh, he seems like a decent guy", when he's talking about his childhood and his aunt and how lovely his relationship with his mother was.... Then suddenly BURN THE RATS WHO ARE JEWS AND A PLAGUE ON GERMANY SIEG FUCKING HEIL and I'm like "wow well this escalated quickly, gosh".

I've read The Prophet in Arabic, English and French. It was a bit hard in Arabic since it was meant to be poesy à la Baudelaire and I'm not really good in Arabic (And I'm not proud of it) but I read it in French to understand it better.

On TLC my signature thingie was a quote from The Prophet, it was something like "If you could hear the whispering of a dream you would hear no other sound" or something like that, I don't remember.

I feel like this is a bit of a copout answer, but I'm equally interested in all aspects, from moral philosophy to metaphysics to free will to political philosophy to epistemology... I dunno, I think it's all interesting to explore.

But, if I had to pick, I might say political philosophy, because I think that has applications you might be able to put into the real world, and the views of the philosophers within the field have profoundly influenced my opinions and where I draw the line, forcing me to think and re-evaluate what I previously thought was the "right" way to think. I wasn't such an avid supporter of freedom before I read about Mill, for example. :P

What about yourself?
