I find I'm most interested in political philosophy since, as you said yourself, it has the greatest application to the working world. Before reading some of the works by Aquinas, Bentham, Locke, Montesquieu et al. I was hardly aware of the pertinent questions that should be asked about the legitimacy of laws. I sort of just took things at face value without ever questioning more deeply whether a law was actually limiting our freedom as individuals or whether the law's origins were valid. So yeah, I'm also huge on liberalism and Mill's Harm Principle. You might find it interesting to read Joel Feinberg's The Moral Limits of the Criminal Law. It really expands the idea of Mill's Harm Principle and introduces the ideas of legal moralism, legal paternalism and the offense principle. |

Woohoo, political philosophy buddies. o/\o I remember there was a bit of debate going about whether or not Machiavelli was just being a snarky bastard when it came to his theories about politics and people just took him seriously because they assumed it fit with the period. I prefer to think he was just a well-thought out troll and he's laughing himself into a second death in the afterlife. I'll definitely check it out, though. The best thing about philosophy - and, well, with most learning in general - is discovering how far you are from being right. Puts shit in perspective, yo. |

I mean, calculators were designed for arithmetic, so it's understandable why they'd use it. I'm just kind of surprised by the fact that when you're trying to work quickly, it's best to memorize the really basic stuff and also because I feel like (electrical) engineers use a lot of logarithmic functions to work on things like signal decay so they should know basic log functions like the back of their hand. maybe i'm just too tough on engineers LOL. we do have a bit of a rivalry  |

This reminds me of that Locksmith on TLC saying about wait till you can't spazz about them in peace, it happened to us too. She sounded like the Angel of Doom but with a lot of CAPSLOCK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!I lol at people bitching about scrolling yet complaining about what is being said, if you were scrolling you wouldn't know so you aren't scrolling, you are reading. If you are reading its your choice unless someone put a gun to your head children. - I like Defiance, the first two epis were good and not that it matters but some of the ladies are quite fetching.
