lol, my first instinct with kids is to ask them what they like doing and then do it with them, so I guess I'm already there. I don't find kids adorable at all unless they're acting adorable, like if they're really enthusiastic about something.

This is a good article, though. Reminds me of the Baby X experiment.

You likely won't find any without a shitton of equations or math terminology, so here:

http://www.fourier-series.com/

it's an interactive flash series (harhar) that teaches you about fourier series and transforms. It's very basic and goes over the other topics you need to know to do fourier transforms: sines & cosines and basic integration. if you want a more formal explanation of what exactly fourier series is, you're going to need to consult a textbook. :P

Despite cancelling my math class, I still discuss it with my teacher. When it comes to Algebra I suck, but then again I like to think about it. Thank you for the link, og. :)

I would do a nice mom? I think a mom would be too old and it'll be a little illegal.
I'm kidding, thanks for the compliment. I just hate kids, so I prefer to treat them like little adults so it's easier to talk to them.

That sounds bad, GG. Just try to remain optimistic and I hope everything turns out to be the best it can be in this situation. :grouphug:

:P

anyway, unless you have a good fundamental grasp of calculus, a textbook explaining it to you would be very confusing; you can look up terms sometimes, but other times, you actually need to understand what's going on in the math and you can't just look that up.

I like maths people, okay. =_=

And heck, I'll try anyway. If I don't understand, I'll buy another textbook.
Saying that, though, I still need to buy the books you recommended to me, so... I guess I'm in progress.

ok... =_= why?

sad to say, the descriptions won't be any easier if you get a textbook that explains it in a different way; math, for the most part, builds on top of itself, so no matter how brief a statement is, such as "the x and y axis are orthogonal to one another", if you don't understand orthogonality in its entirety you won't understand how that statement correlates to fourier series - looking up things is helpful some of the time, but most of the time it won't do you any good.

Because I don't get a chance to talk to many of them and I like learning about maths. =_=

Hmm. So if I want to understand it, I'll have to look up all the basic stuff first?

if you're attending uni soon (you said you were 17, I think) you should take some math courses! :P

If you want the most clear understanding, yes; you said you wanted to learn the theory behind it, so you'll need to backtrack a bit and learn about topics that it are used in fourier series/transforms. for computation, you'd want to do a bunch of practice problems to familiarize yourself (but theory is pretty crucial to computation so you'd also want to know the context for fourier series/transforms as well).

I'll try, but I'm studying Ancient History...
I'll probably end up doing extra classes, anyway. I really like maths and I'd like more opportunities to do it.

Makes sense to me! One of my friends is pretty good at maths, so I'll ask him for help if I don't understand shit. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
