Buc-ees is only a Texas thing. I try to explain the awesomeness to northerners but it's about as useless as trying to explain how awesome Whataburger is when you're drunk at 2 in the morning. One must experience it. |

Ah I live in a fairly urban place and my roommates never sleep so we're always doing crazy things at night and getting junk food during the wee hours of the morning. I, of course, am yelling "I would give all my fame for a pot of ale" from Henry V because I consider myself an intellectual drunk lol. |

Yeah I went to Bonn last summer for an internship and had a blast. Wish I could've stayed, really. I think study abroads should be available for more majors. |

Oh nice! does the dept. pay for it?Like, the bio/biochem majors have the option of taking ochem 1 and 2 in Spain (a few of my friends are over there right now), but the university doesn't pay for it b/c it's not required. The physics degree plan is very constricting and it's hard for most students to go abroad. Because of that, they don't have set programs for physics majors like they do bio or biochem (also those majors make up like 3/5 of the college lol). If you're involved in a big project though, you have a chance of presenting your data in a conference at w/e institution you're working with but it really depends on what prof you're working with. I wish they'd find a way to make it more available, but I highly doubt the university cares enough about it tbh.

I got grant funds because I wrote this long fancy paper and scholarships from various but the study abroad department had to work with me for awhile to cover all the costs. Plus, the university I was working at was really great about helping me keep living costs to a minimum and and I got to live in a student apartment close to campus. I had to do a lot of the legwork to make sure all of the costs were covered, though, and apply for my own student visa and stuff like that. You really have to take the initiative yourself and plan in advance. I wouldn't change it for the world, though. Had a great time and met my first girlfriend so no regrets

Omg you met a girl in germany? What else did you do in bonn besides get a gf? ![]() Yeah, I think i'll ask some of the physics advisors what the best plan would be because the main problem is figuring out how to work around the degree plan w/o ending up staying for 5 years. after that, i'd just have to be wary about the cost but if the study abroad office is as helpful as they claim to be, then something should be worked out. |

I was rather pushy about it and made them work with me lol, but it can be done. My advisor also helped out quite a bit. It's who you know, really. The internship was mainly working with non-German speaking study abroad students and getting their dumb asses out of trouble but I had time to write a 35 page paper as well. Haha and yes, I met a girl in Germany. Another student from Britain, actually. We tried the long distance thing after we both left the country but it didn't work out. We're still friendly, though. Been single ever since. Le sigh. But start harassing the study abroad department and see if they can work something out for you! Hope it works out. |

Not bad at all. Enjoying some summer sun my one summer class. I checked the main thread only to find loads of wank between Jessica and Tiffany fans so I've migrated to this thread lol. How have you been? PS: I finally got around to watching those youtube vids you recommended... quite enjoyed them! |

You can take all of the sun from where I live, if you want, and all of the warmth with it. Summer is definitely not my favourite month. Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself, though. Personally, I'm pretty darn good. Just finished up my modern history exam and I think I'm more confident about the result and I've resigned myself to the C I'll probably get. Trying my hand at writing something properly for the first time in a few years, too, just to see if I can still put my ideas down. lol, I can't remember which ones I recommended, now. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed whatever they were, though. |

I'm sure you did fabulously on your exam Summer's not my favorite time of the year but school is less of a pain in the ass so I enjoy that lol. You recommended some videos of Beckett's work to show me how the staging enhances the meaning of the work, and I enjoyed them immensely. Writing, eh? Academic or personal? |

Thanks for saying so, lol, although I feel like your confidence might be misplaced. We'll only see, eh? Understandable. I've never had a problem with school and I quite enjoy attending classes and seeing everyone, so the academic calendar doesn't make me like Summer any more. I usually just end up seeing 3/4 of my close friends consistently and then reading/video gaming most of my time, eheh;; Oh, yes, I remember now! I particularly liked Waiting For Godot, but that's my favourite play anyway, so I might be unfairly biased. This writing is personal. I've kinda had an idea for a story milling around and fleshing itself out in my head for a few years and I figured now might be a good time to crack down on it.
