I'd say 24-26 weeks, but I don't know enough about women's health to assess her particular situation and make a different decision; again, that's a decision between a woman and her obstetrician. |

I feel that if you are having sex you know there is the possibility that you would get pregnant, so use protection, take the pill, etc. Imo it doesnt matter if the baby is still a fetus, is a living being. So you are killing your baby for a mistake you make, he didnt do anything bad, its innocent. |

I feel that with rape its different, if you feel that you will hate your baby, and while you are pregnant you are hating yourself and the baby, the baby will be miserable because it knows you hate him. I think it depends on the person, but i think if you feel you are not gonna love him like you would love a kid made out of love, then you should put him up for adoption, there are so many families that want a child but cant, and they will love him/her. |

Accidents happen, sometimes the pill and a condom aren't enough protection. What about rape? Or when that ladies life is in danger? Or when there isn't a possibility of raising the baby in a safe and healthy environment? Parents might now even want a child after getting an accidental pregnancies, why let the child grow up in an environment where it isn't wanted? |

Yeah it's living like fungi and algae are living; "baby" has human connotations. Technically it's not viable outside the womb and therefore it is still considered a part of the mother and not a separate individual. it's just a mass of cells if you're of the mindset that it should be considered a "baby" at conception because it's alive, then you're forced to concede that 3/4 of all human beings are killed when the embryo fails to implant in the uterus and is expelled from the body naturally |

Okay, cool. Let me preface this by saying that I, personally, am conflicted on the subject of abortion. Not, though, in whether or not I support it, because I definitely do, but I'm unsure as to my ability to justify it, therefore I appreciate an opportunity to have what I think criticised so that I can think more about whether or not what I'm saying is a valid argument for my opinion. Abortion is a pretty sensitive topic that people get understandably passionate about, so I think it's important that I say ^ that, and that I establish that I respect your right to your opinion and I'm fully open to being convinced of being wrong, if that's how things turn out. Having said that... Can I ask for your position in more detail, so I can understand it more? From what you said, I can only make a few preliminary points. - You said that having sex necessitates the probability of becoming pregnant, which is true, but as the other users pointed out, what about rape? The possibility is not accepted in this case, since the sex wasn't willing, and therefore the pregnant woman couldn't consent to that outcome. - You said that the baby is still a fetus - at what point? For quite a while, the fetus is nothing more than a collection of cells, the likes of which are regularly shed and replaced, and which you, in fact, discharge from the womb on a regular, cyclical variation called "the menstrual cycle". I suppose you could argue that it's the potential for life, as the cells are fertilised, which give these cells an importance that might be absence from a regular egg, and that aborting those cells would be equivalent to murder. But, by that logic, would you be opposed to a man masturbating, since each one of those sperm cells contains half of the genetic material necessary for creating life, and that not allowing those sperm cells to be used only for fertilisation of an egg, that's also equivalent to mass murder? - You make an assumption that an abortion would be worse than letting the child live, which might not necessarily be the case. Sometimes the mental trauma of growing up in an adoption centre without being adopted - and, indeed, many children in adoption centres are unfortunately not adopted - would outweigh the temporary pain (or lack of pain, depending on when the abortion is performed) that an abortion would give. |
