Yeah i'd hate to have to wear uniforms

The only people who didn't have to remain clean shaven and were allowed to wear clothing that covered their heads at my school were also Muslim, but obviously the context is different being that it's a religious observance for many; those students at your schools probs spoke with the principal or something to make them aware of that. I don't see any need to get angry about it tho and esp none to warrant the eyerolling face...
I'm rolling my eyes because if they sell the pants for the uniform, why can't everyone wear them? It's so stupid. Either don't sell the uniform pants at all or let everyone who owns the uniform pants wear them. :eyeroll:

Was your school co-ed or was is the lesbian fantasy yuri manga all-girls school?

If it was co-ed, then I guess they sold the pants for guys?

if not, then yeah that's silly the school would sponsor the sales of pants as opposed to someone personally finding pants themselves and bringing them from home to wear for particular reasons; it just sounds like another way to make a quick buck for the school, I guess :nails: Sounds more like a problem with the district school board (or the UK equivalent) than it is with the students who require alternative dress.

All-girls, like I said.

And I know, I was rolling my eyes at the stupidity of having pants but not letting us wear them, not at Muslims. idk why you'd assume that, haha.

I must've missed that, then.

well it was worded a bit ambiguous, especially with your phrasing of "the Muslims"; it's not illogical to assume that you meant to imply something less than flattering about Muslim students.

uhh I was kind of quiet (I feel like I was a lot different in high school, actually). but I guess I was also really funny cuz i'd have the class laughing at something or other idk.

I won the award in my grade for "person who sleeps the most during class"; it was a rather a stressful time period, didn't sleep a lot at night so I slept through my spanish class lol

I was kind of a nerd but so were most of my peers :P

I don't get why you'd get that from my use of "the", though. Isn't it just grammatically correct to preface a noun with "the" in this context? Like, "the pants", "the school", "the uniform", "the skirt", etc.

idk. I just don't understand why you'd get that impression at all, but I guess you did, and we've corrected the misunderstanding now, so it doesn't matter.

Yeah, it's just the implied meaning it brings. like saying the gays, the Jews, etc; it's slightly pejorative in the sense that it implies an "otherness" to the group of people you're referring to.

yeah it's corrected so I guess it doesn't matter. It's just good to take note when things are worded rather problematically :P

kinda glad i didn't have to wear casual clothes in school. it would have been so stressful having to think about wearing something different everyday.
haha yeah, uniform ftw *though ours were ugly* :ermm:
I also liked using an uniform back then, way too lazy to choose something different to wear everyday. Mine was a nice black and green or blue (you could choose which one you liked better or just use both), I actually kinda liked it.
DA there was this one school that had cute summery yellow dresses. i was always jealous of their superior uniform.
My uniforms were terrible, elementary school red color with gray, secondary school green color with gray, high school gray with orange.
Public secondary schools in my hometown have nicknames and depends on the uniform color. We were the parakeets =_= At least we weren´t The Smurfs

I thought it was made to reference something specifically and/or draw a connection? Like, "The Muslims wore the pants", to show you that it was the Muslims, out of all of the other students, that wore the pants, with "the" implying a connection to "the uniform", instead of all the other pants that there were. I've honestly never gotten any bad implication from the word "the". Using "the Jews" or "the gays" just seems like a way to refer to a demographic, not exclude them from anything, or imply anything negative, especially in such an innocuous context.

It would be grammatically incorrect to omit "the", I think.

Technically yes, although when you use it to refer to a group of people it's going to carry a different connotation as opposed to when you use it to draw a connection for some other arbitrary noun. I'm not arguing the grammatical correctness of the phrasing - that's not the point i'm trying to make. I'm saying implied meaning behind the phrase is potentially problematic, and even in such a context, can still be perceived as rather derogatory (the eye rolling face at the end also doesn't help clarify your desired meaning).

I'm not an English student, nor am I a particular stickler about grammar, but when intended meaning is ambiguous at best it's to be expected that others will be confused (and sometimes even offended); i'm glad you clarified.

^ I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I honestly see nothing negative, not even implied, about what I said, although I respect that you did and therefore I clarified to make sure there wasn't further misunderstanding.
