tbh that's what I thought, every red rooster i've been toe ver has been very.... empty, the staff are always depressed and it never changes. Like when I first came to Melbourne, in Swanston St they have a fancy KFC, fancy-ish Mc donalds and Fancy-ish Hungry Jacks... yet the nearest Red Rooster is like in Richmond and it's exactly like every other red rooster. I'm still a loyalist tho

Testify! I was actually pretty surprised with McDonald's macarons. The Byron Bay ones they sell at the DJs Food Hall are quite good too! |

I think alot of food is worth it in Melbourne tbh, theres that much competition that the prices are really quite reasonable. I pay less for food here (aside from produce) than I did in semi-rural Queensland. Also Rexie, I found a gif of you after eating chilli ![]()

mate, you've had asian food in asian countries, right? i had the best haianese chicken on rice i've tasted in my life in singapore and it was 4 bucks with a drink. and lived like royalty for 2 week sin cambodia for 600 bucks. edit: i forgot to factor in rent.. and labour (but lbr asian restaurants use slave labour anyhow) |

I should've qualified my comment by saying that in Australia, I feel that Melbourne has somethings to offer food-wise which is worth it. But yeah, I agree that Australia, and especially Melbourne, ain't got nothin' on other countries. Edit: My bad if I sounded super dismissive before. |

ah i haven't.. is it similar to Th3 c0llect!ve in Camberwell? It looks very similar to a lot of brunch places that I like though so maybe I'll try it on your recommendation Yeah, Canbra is exxy and the food is not even good so you feel doubly ripped off.. Also, I don't understand how it can be colder than melb |

I actually never seen red rooster in melb, now I know why haha. dont mean to start an argument but I have to disagree as well. I've lived in Perth longer than melb and gosh, melbournites should be thankful for the assortments of cafes and restaurants available there, especially the price. Food's more costly there and with little choices too. So glad I moved to melbourne haha. |

I had an amazing mediterranian salad at a pub in Parkville with lettuce, tomato, roasted capsicums, feta, olivers, lamb cucumber (and some other stuff) that was really generous and really really tasty, only $12. Yeah, still over $10 but if you look around you can usually find some great value

mmm not exactly "getting robbed" haha, I dont think we can compare it directly tho as there are differences in resources, economics conditions and yadda yadda. But if have to give a conclusion, when it comes to food, the price that people have to pay in australia is definitely worth the money, this is all imo of course. |

ah i guess i feel a little less butthurt about prices.. with food at least.. i'm still gonna hate itunes for charging me more than americans though @RS it gets progressively worst every time i visit but on latest visit, still worth $15 |

Im trying my hardest not to go on an economics and political tirade, so ill just keep it short. Australia has little - no manufacturing, + one of our major political parties was founded on fair treatment for workers, Factor in that theres minimal - no profit for manufacturing anything anymore, our bipolar climate which is making agriculture even harder and our geographic location which means EVERYTHING needs to be transported here... yeah. We pay too much for everything.. |

Okay I'm confused. I thought agriculture in Australia was one of its stronger points? If anything, most of the fresh produce I seem to buy from the supermarkets are sourced from Australia, with only a fraction that is out-sourced.I was under the impression that the reason why fresh produce is so expensive in Australia was due to the protection of local producers. Then again, I'm no commerce student. |

It's both really, Agriculture is still a really prominent part of our ecnonomy, but the fact that we get his so hard by the alninya an the other thingo wind patterns every few years batters us. That combined with high petrol prices, low AUS$, Woolworths and Coles buying for nothing and selling for rediculously high reallys makes a volatile market. Then again, i'm no commerce student either ![]() But realistically, if you want to buy ingredients for a salad, it'll usually cost you about $8 anyway, either tomatoes or cucumbers will be ridiculously priced at any given time. |
