The town I used to live in (Maryborough) was the only settlement in Australia to ever have the plague. I think it was about 30 people died in total and of those people were two nurses who volunteered to treat the other victims so they werent literally 'Left For Dead'.

All the patients were qurrantined into a wooden hall with a single door and window, and every day the head constable of the police would walk up to the window and check for signs of life.

After about 5 days, under police orders, the hotel was ordered to be torched after the chief constables daily check, all accounts said he was visibly shaken and demanded whole heartedly that the building be burnt as a 'preventative measure'

The only remaining traces were the two burnt husks of the nurses and a large pile of bones.

When the mourners went to inform one of the nurses husbands, they founds his days old, half eaten corpse still tied suvmissivly to the bed.

And theres any place you can visit where these events supposedly happened? D:
Sort of, there was a seperate graveyard for the victims of the plague which was where the supposed bones were cremated and the ashes buried, its all closed off by an old rust wrought iron gate and a rather ominous tombstone, its been over 100 years but still no grass, plants or weeds grow in that cemetery.

There was also 'Baddow House' from the same area which was your quinticential giant wooden manor built ontop of the largest hill overlooking the mouth of the river which was owned by a rich logging pioneer and was preserved over the years as a historical site.

Mr Baddow went off to fight in a war (either the boer war or world war 1, I cant really remember) and his wife would watch out from their backyard over the river, waiting for the ship to bring him back home.

In world war two, there were concerns that the Japanese might try and infiltrate via the river as it was the second largest port in Queensland, so the defence force set up a head quarters in Baddow House to keep an eys on the mouth of the river, after a few months the plan was abandoned after 5 men were dragged down state to a psychiatric hospital.

The house has been abandoned since, you get the old fishermans tale about occasionally seeing lights flash inside the house or a ladys voice greeting you on a foggy morning, but ill tell you now that place gives everybody the heebies.

A lot of that is probably psychosomatic illness and self-induced hallucinations on a minor scale.

It's possible, though! :ghost:
I dont even know how self-induced hallucination even worked and as far as Im aware, I have never wanted to hallucinate myself when I used to see them. But yeah, I respect your opinion so...

If it wasn't for the things I've seen and have happened to me, I would be like " lawl, ghosts", but yeah, there's a reason why I'm so afraid of them.

That's why they're all you can eat, my dear. I live in Texas too, so you'll have some proper competition lol.
I was thinking of heading to America during my winter break actually, but my family live in Virginia and I have no idea how to travel in Murrka other than car and I can't drive because I'm a scrub.
I just want to eat all the food so bad

Oh god they'd destroy me I'm tiny

Have you heard about the Red Room? It's said that, if you browse the internet, there might be an ad page that starts with, "do you like--?" and plays a soundclip of a child asking the question, getting cut off towards the end. If you click "skip", another ad will come up in pop-up form, asking the same thing, with the same clip. If you try and close that, the pop-up will reappear, playing the same clip, becoming more and more distorted until it sounds like some kind of automated speaking system, finally asking, "do you liked red?". After closing this pop-up, though, a final one shows up that asks "do you like the red room?", in the regular child's voice that resembles the one from the first ad. Closing this one brings you to a site with a list of names, with yours at the end.

Closing that website gives you a feeling that somebody is watching you. The last person who tried this was reported as committing suicide the day after, having painted the walls of his room red with his blood.

Maybe self-induced is the wrong word... Basically, the human mind is wired to recognise body shapes, even if the indication is very, very vague (e.g. seeing a face where there are only 3 holes) because that helped you pick out other humans in the wilderness back during the times where the most evolution happened. If you're tired, that makes you more prone to hallucinations (read up on the case study of a guy called Peter Tripp) 'cause you need REM sleep to regulate your neural functions. Both of these combined makes you more likely to "see" a body shape that has a certain quality, and if you've been raised in a superstitious culture and know a certain urban legend (like the Pontianak), then your brain will try and make the connection between seeing a vague human-shaped shadow and encourage more details and create a model that it projects onto what it recognises through your retina, which means you "see" (post neural-processing) an indication of something that's actually something completely different.

You'd be surprised how much your brain interferes in your sight. It's probably that. But, like I said, it might not be.
