I was just reading on reddit that it looks as if you'go on a list' when you have your pornography unblocked which seems to be making alot of people nervous. A child goes missing in your area and you could potentially be detained because you're on the 'evil pervert list'.

Also who knows what sites it might block? Aff, Reddit, Lj, wattpad, lingerie stores, online bookstores that sell 50 shades of grey. It seems rather vague as to what they classify bannable =/

In the US we can buy it over the counter. I know in some places you can't, though.

And Arti I know what the compound does, I just never thought taking it in pill form would be so effective so quickly. Color me impressed. Next time I'm jet lagged or have insomnia due to stress I'll skip the other stuff.

I wouldn't advise it. Altering your melatonin levels at undue times can have some potentially serious side effects. Try regulating your sleep through more natural methods.

It's certainly not going to become a habit. I normally have no problems sleeping without any aid. But I'm a big girl and I asked a pharmacist before I tried it and he said that as long it didn't become a habit there should be no major problems.

Personally, I'd just be very apprehensive with altering my brain chemistry without a serious reason, is all. :P

Quick google search brings up headaches, small bouts of insomnia, daysleeping. Serious side effects are bouts of depression, serious insomnia, sleepwalking, hallucinations, difficulty discerning reality and illusion and i believe theres been one or two cases where people have been completely hormonally rearranged so to say by extended usage of it, their moods and functions all went out of whack and they needed full time psychiatric care

You can read the literature for yourself. I think using the word "serious" is a bit misleading and even though it might not be your particular choice, everyone should do their own research and see for themselves if they want to use it or not.

I just know that it was effective for me, that's all I can say.

PS: Any substance that it is overused and abused will have side effects.

What serious side effects?
When I say "potentially serious", I don't mean like, it can give you cancer or anything. It just messes up a lot of other shit unduly.

Less-serious ones are stuff like regular bouts of dizziness, prone to headaches, irregularities in your sleep/wake cycle, etc., which are ignorable, for the most part, as long as you don't mind getting headaches/dizzy a lot. But it might spark off depression and/or anxiety, repeated abdominal pains/nausea, hormone fluctuations and it can permanently alter your sleep/wake cycle and have knock-on effects on other parts of your brain as well IF you take it for a prolonged period of time, which is usually 3+ months (which also shouldn't be a concern). It can interfere with other medicines that involve regulating your neurochemistry and immune system, too, but I'd assume that's not a concern here.

Osso, make sure to not use it as a sleeping pill, 'cause it doesn't make you sleepy, it changes your circadian rhythms by regulating your internal body clock.
Edit: Probably know this already, but use 0.3~1.0mg. Higher doses would be more ineffective and increase risks.

@Artichoke Ok, so you mentioned it messing your sleep/wake cycle, but my sleeping schedule is already screwed right now (sleeping at 3/4am till 2:30pm) and I want to use sleeping pills to get some form of regular pattern back. Is this not going to work, or?

I don't think sleeping pills would be the best solution, dear, unless you're just not sleeping at all. You'll probably have to slowly ease yourself back into a more "normal" sleep pattern. Turning off the computer/TV a few hours earlier and setting your alarm for an earlier time (or set two alarms). Sleeping pills are serious business.

Resetting a sleep schedule isn't an instant fix. And it shouldn't be, or else yes there can be side effects.

Like you said, that's more your sleep schedule, which is typically affected by 3x0genous factors, such as light. It can be fixed manually just by attempting to sleep at a more typical pattern, or by pulling an all-nighter and then sleeping at the regular time the day after. Your free-running rhythm (which is the rhythm of your sleep/wake cycle without 3x0genous factors) is pretty much around 25/26 hours anyway, so what time you sleep can be rotated without needing any drugs, and it's a separate concern.

Melatonin, on the other hand, is an endogenous regulator, which means that it's concerned by things inside of your body, which makes it possible to actually have a free-running rhythm. Usually, melatonin is released by the pineal gland specifically at night due to changes sensed by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), so if you take melatonin at a strange time, you fundamentally edit your biological clock and mess with your brain chemistry.

Using it might work, but I'd either consult a professional (of which I'm not!!! so feel free to ignore this :P ) or just regulate it yourself, which is something that I'd feel more comfortable with if it were me.

Thing is, whenever I try to sleep earlier I can't sleep until the time that I usually go to sleep. So it doesn't help.
I just need to knock myself out so my body can sleep before that time, even if I do this for a short while. It won't be habitual.

I agree. If you want to try it once on a day where you don't have to be anywhere (that's what I did) I get that.

But usually I'll just go a night on less sleep and then I'm back to the schedule I want the next night.
