I'm glad you're closer to finding out what you want to do! but I will say math at uni is a lot different than schooling before that - you learn new methods for problem solving, but you don't just blindly use them; you're also given a conceptual understanding as why that method is appropriate for the given problem. actually, that reminds me of my last differential equations exam: I used a method for undetermined coefficients to solve a 2nd order DE but the proper method was actually variation by parameters - I ended up getting the right answer by a fluke (I didn't think so at the time until my prof explained it). This seems to be something that's neglected before the university level (at least here).obviously I love math, but sometimes it doesn't always love me back ![]() you should take at least a couple more math classes at uni - I think you'd really enjoy them! @Arti: i'm not going to bother to address the previous slew of posts from you about the problem b/c i've already pointed out why I didn't accept it as correct. Either you can dwell on it, or you can move on. it's really not a big deal; these questions are for fun, but you're always going to have someone who gets it right and others who get it wrong - no medals or prizes, but you will have winners. You have a lot of enthusiasm about the problem, and that's great! i'll give another problem on Tuesday |

I know why you didn't accept that as correct and I understand why. My proof wasn't extensive enough. I just wanted to prove that I did know the answer, and that I was right, only that I expressed myself wrongly, because that is what's fun for me. It's not being called a winner or being recognised as one that matters, but simply knowing that I was right in what I knew. Don't assume that, because I'm dwelling on it, I'm somehow not enjoying myself. I don't do things that I don't find enjoyable. |

i actually have no clue what this means but it's good to know i was not completely off track although i doubt i would've ever been able express my answer in a way that could be considered satisfactory "proof".
but I will say math at uni is a lot different than schooling before that - you learn new methods for problem solving, but you don't just blindly use them; you're also given a conceptual understanding as why that method is appropriate for the given problem. actually, that reminds me of my last differential equations exam: I used a method for undetermined coefficients to solve a 2nd order DE but the proper method was actually variation by parameters - I ended up getting the right answer by a fluke (I didn't think so at the time until my prof explained it).
