@Rexie: yeah, I can't watch that video for more than a minute; I don't understand a lot of what she's saying (her accent is heavy and there are probs phrases i'm not familiar with) but from what I could understand, it was making me mad -_-
is it bad that I actually understood everything that racist said?? ahahaha, oh well I guess I've lived in Australia long enough

yeah at first I couldnt go pass the first minute, I was already enraged but I had to see how this ended, so I watched it again till the end. Ridiculous is an understatement really, she contradicted herself most of the time and you could see how that poor kid held himself for so long until he actually retaliated. -_-

one of the worst parts of that video is other people were laughing at him when she was going on with her rant. No one was doing anything at all...just goes to show the pervasiveness of stuff like this. i'd like to think that if she were on a bus with me and she pulled that shit i'd :emofuckoff: her, or just call her out but those kinds of situations take people by surprise sometimes and I get pretty tongue-tied easily; i'm also really non-confrontational in person. -_- i'd probably end up just sideeyeing the shit out of her, a la sooyoung style

^ My mom once had a really aggressive argument with someone on the bus because of that. He said something racist (can't remember what) and my mom turned around and started having a go and then everyone joined in and the driver made him get off the bus.

Ughhh, that ramen was gorgeous, I wish I had some now.

I would certainly say something. At least I think I would.

I tell off people who are rude to waitresses all the time but I don't know how I would react to something that public. I'd like to think that I'd step up.

yeah ikr! I was bewildered that no one actually said/do anything about it, even the bus driver (think that was him) only told the kid to sit down and not kick that racist out. Yeah these kind of situation always caught you off guard, well no one actually expect it to happen at the first place haha. Agree, I think it's actually best not to do anything cus it'd be just a waste of time, and granted no words could get through that thick skull. I actually argued with my friend about this cus he said he would definitely put this woman on her place and suggested that I should totally do the same if faced with the same situation :ermm:

I've only told frat guys off before, and at a distance. If I was stuck on a bus and I called someone out I wouldn't have anywhere to go if my safety was in danger - especially if I was addressing some big burly dude (you never know if someone will get physically violent; racism runs deep). idk, it's a combination of safety, being uncomfortable around strangers and just generally choking on words.

usually if people near me are rude to waiters/waitresses, and if they happen to be serving my table as well, I tip them extra. I try really hard to tip at 16-17% whenever I go out, which admittedly isn't very often

Well looks like this is doing the rounds now, for those of you wanting to know what a bogan is, heres a prime example

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-P2Xxt1KtY
lol bogans, there's plenty of them in Perth :ghost:

this was worse (warning: racism at its finest and will get your blood boil)

I remember my aussie friends and I had a discussion about this when it first came out, we were all so pissed, esp my friends cus they're all Asian-Australian. Those bogans really :emofuckoff:

My parents used to live in Australia back in the 90's. Once some of the white-aussie told my parents to go back to China. O_o

I've had many discussions with both people my parents' age and people my age about how people react when they hear racist things. My great grandmother used to use the N word all the time and I would just lose my shit every single time.

My parents would always give me the "well they're from another generation" line to excuse the behavior but I'm sorry, I just don't accept that as justification to say hateful things. Then they try the "well that was just a commonly used word" and I don't buy that either. They know the history of the word and the derogatory usage of it.

I know what it's like to be called a d&ke and it's not a good feeling. So it's really hard for me to let things like that go.

i've had the exact same kinds of convos, but I generally give up and leave the room b/c i'll become really emotional about it. I don't understand how some people - especially sometimes family - can be so dense.

The racism we see in the South is the easiest to spot, it's the easiest to get away from. But the subtleties of racism are so much more commonplace and accepted so they're a lot harder to point out - people like to think that it all ended when 1960's did, but no. it's still alive and well; just not as obvious to those that don't have to deal with it. :-/

I remember I got called that word in middle school by someone who was supposed to be my friend. Kid couldn't stand that I could kick a soccer ball better than him :P

We likely have similar backgrounds and face similar problems, Orange. When I was younger I would get upset and leave the room, but lately I've stood my ground despite my mother's chagrin. I was taught to stand up for what I believe in, and just because we're related doesn't mean I disagree with what you're saying any less than I would with a stranger.

It's no coincidence that I've been more assertive with most issues since I officially came out. I remember when a family friend said the D word in reference to Ellen Degeneres and it made my mother cry. I've never been so angry in my life. I told her off right then and there. One of my proudest moments actually. I can defend myself but you DO NOT make my mama cry :)

And sadly yes, racism is alive and well.

yeah, we might. I'm still learning how to not feel guilty when I call people out on their ignorance. It's getting easier, though, and i'm glad.

So after much harassment from my gay male friends, I finally broke down and watched Pitch Perfect. "It's got swag," they said.

That had no swag lol. Acapella has no swag. Was an entertaining movie, though. Anna K. is super cute, too.

stap your hair is pretty from what I can remember

my hair is pretty thick and there's always a definitive part; I can't run my fingers through the front and have it look all nice and messy - it just looks dumb, then it falls back into place. idk if 'm making sense goodnight
