I know DAT feel. My old $5 Microsoft wired mouse died a few weeks ago and I spent all day scouring around looking for another el cheapo one, eventually amongst all the hordes of cheap wireless mice I found some guy on Gumtree/craiglist selling a brand new but unwanted Razer for ~$20 |

Any brand recommendations? I usually just buy a cheap £5 one from the tech shop near me; this one has lasted me around 10 years and it's not broken per se it's just that I've spilt so many crumbs on it that if I tried cleaning it a whole loaf would fall out. My mouse, however... The right clicker is going. :/ Need a USB port for both of them. |

I'm using Logit3ch's g710+ which Cherry Brown Switches. Got it on sale, otherwise it's pretty pricey. Cheaper brands with good reviews are Coolm@ster/R0sewill (stateside anyway). But it's all in the switch for mechanical keyboards anyway, various models just give you different ergonomics/bonus features. If you've ever seen (or probably heard) 1BM's legendary model M keyboards, thats what mechanical switches are btw; they have that distinctive clickity clack sound. It's just a dream to type on when compared to cheapo keyboards. It's not about getting it for the long term investment per se, it'll last for years just like your cheap one. It's more a quality of life thing. For a mouse just get any decent high DPI optical (2.5k+) or laser (with lotsa buttons if you're into that kinda thing). |

Thank you! I appreciate this a lot. I'm at a loss when it comes to technical things like that, so it's nice when someone is kind enough to help me out. ![]() Gave it a G0ogle, and a lot of them are far out of my means for now... What would you say about this? The mouse should be easier to get. This one, maybe? (literally just g0ogling and picking the first/cheapest option, haha, i don't care much about the extra features - just need it to work) |

@arti: Well I can only speak for Ch3rry MX brand switches as that's the kind I have in my keyboard. The one you linked doesn't use them and the cheapest keyboard you can get with them seems to be £70. And like I said, for mechanical keyboards, it's all in the switch. You're gonna have to decide for yourself if those reviews are trustworthy and if you want to invest in an 'entry-level' mechanical keyboard. Zalm@n makes some of the best CPU coolers if that means anything lol For the mouse, never heard of that brand before so can't speak for it. It's spec'd nice though ![]() Also it has weight tuning which I've never tried before but I imagine it would be a good quality of life thing to have too. Although I think you could go a little cheaper on your mouse though if you're not an avid gamer or something. SteelS3ries/Logit3ch are the gaming brands I trust. Micros0ft mice/keyboards also have good reputation. |

I think I understand that. Well, I'll shop around some more for keyboards, but I found this one for about £20 cheaper, and I might invest in that one, but the measurements might not fit my keyboard tray thing. I'm thinking I might just stick to this until I have some money to burn where splashing £40 on a keyboard can be done even if it won't last me that long. Either that, or What difference does a high DPI make, by the way? There's these two, with 2,000 and 8,200 respectively and I'm unsure which to get. The 8k one is double the price, which still isn't that much tbh, but if it's not a significant difference, then I might as well get the cheaper. Thanks again!

Beware that gaming keyboard =/= mechanical keyboard. That gaming keyboard is almost definitely using standard soft/squishy keys that most typical office keyboards use. DPI is to a mouse what screen resolution is to a monitor. The higher it is the more finite of a movement it can sense. Makes them more sensitive and precise. |

Ahhh, I see, I see. So, I should probably go with either the £40 one for mechanical keys or the Micro$oft one if they're not that essential, then, considering the quality is going to be fairly similar? Thanks for elaborating. This is the mouse I have right now, and a quick G0ogle says it's 800 DPI, so I'm guessing I could basically buy a brick and be surprised at how much better it is. Might as well go for the 2,000 one.

Yep to the first part. And 2000 DPI is plenty, it's actually what I have my mouse set too (even though it can go higher, I find it over-sensitive if I don't lower it). |

Alright, I'm gonna take a trip to eBuy and check out my options there, see if I can find something cheaper, or just take a trip to the tech shop to get something there. Thanks again, I really appreciate it! I'll probably end up getting the cheap mouse, then. |
