@Implim - if I remember correctly you were the writer who promised to write a TaeNy fic with tons of teasing and push/pulling which at the time of that convo on TLC many people seemed to want to read (me included ofc) So was it you and do you still intend to write that?

Yes, I did say that, but I got side-tracked because of how well Lighthouse was received, so I ended up focusing on that, when I'm finished with that, I'll refocus my energy on writing that... but aren't there other good fics with lots of TaeNy push-pull? I heard Absinthe is a good one.
No comment. I leave it to your imagination lol. |

It's obviously not great, then, if it doesn't meet my "high standards". It's average at a stretch, but I'd personally give it a 4 out of 10. Cliche plot, horrible character development, awkward writing and complete lack of consistency. I'd go into more detail, but I'd have to re-read it to cite my arguments. |

Um, I guess this would be a 6/10 for me, and it's a YoonYul with JeTi on the side. I liked the YoonYul, but the JeTi kind of nosedived considering what I expected of it. I also liked this, since it reminded me of a fairytale, and I'd give that a 7/10. Then there's ES, which gets either a high 8/10 or a 9/10, but I'm sure you've read that. Aside from those, there's not much else I like. Edited by Artichoke, Feb 15 2013, 09:38 PM.

Hmm for me Jeti actually stole the spotlight, their relationship was more interesting than Yoonyul's. But Arti, I would like to hear more of your opinions on that fic. (It is one of my faves) |

Ah I've not read it but I've seen people recommending it a lot. Tbh among the more well-known fics in the fandom I have only read WIWFTS and Endless Season (both writers I could tell are well-read, I saw influences from Goethe, Garcia-Marquez, a famous Persian poet and many others). Is there a YulTi equivalent? And hello Arti

I thought it was going to be awesome at first, too, but then I don't feel like it was handled properly. "Jessica annoys me so I love her!" Okay, Tiffany. It was never explained why Jessica could ~understand~ Tiffany whereas Yuri couldn't, too. Or why Yoona suddenly isn't a bitch. Oh, but Taeyeon was adorbs and I wanted to hug her. The fic was alright? But I feel like they didn't do as much with it as they could've done, and the way it was written made it occasionally seem kind of bland. The characters came off as flat in places and seemed to be more caricatures of stereotypes rather than people in their own right, and there didn't seem to be much depth to them. That's acceptable in some fics, though, it just happened that this one seemed to rely on a depth that wasn't present. Far too much "telling" and not enough "showing". The author would often say, "okay so Character A feels this way" without actually showing Character A feeling that way. Made me feel a bit disassociated from anything that happened.
Hi. Being well-read doesn't necessarily entail being a good writer, just like looking at a lot of paintings doesn't make you a good artist. It just means you know a lot of books. (Oh, in addition, showing influence from classical writers also isn't equivalent to being well-read. You can read very few books but those books just happen to be ones by famous authors, so their influence shows.) |

It was just something I observed, when I was reading the stories I was thinking, "This line came from that poem," "Didn't Goethe said that?" etc etc, and which made for a different reading experience compared to reading a story that I find a bit more basic. The rest I agree with you, it was an assumption I made because not many young people and I assume these writers are young (the fandom is pretty young) read beyond popular fiction, which is nice to see. Not many people today read at all. As for good and bad fics, it depends on the reader's preference and level of literacy and their reading intent. It can be pretty subjective, that's my opinion. @Dyslexia, really no comment lol btw did you drop this on my askbox? I can't think of anyone else who would do something like this. Yeah, it's a shame, actually. Books are pretty great, and there'll be one that covers a subject you enjoy, so it's not like you won't be able to find something you like. I guess not everyone enjoys reading. I don't think that there is a subjective standard of quality when it comes to things, though, I'll have to disagree with you there. Whether you like the fic or not will be your opinion, but whether or not it's good is a separate issue. Sure, they're correlated, but you can dislike something that's good, and you can like something that's bad. For example, Dante's Inferno is a pretty bad game, but I still enjoy playing it.
Yeah. I feel like it should've explored more than it did, and more than once I felt myself reaching for something that wasn't there when I was reading it. I can understand not understanding Tiffany, and I can understand her being retarded over her feelings for Yuri (which I thought was really well done, actually), but I can't understand why Jessica is suddenly ~the exception~ and why Jessica is special but Yuri wasn't, and what makes Jessica so amazing that Tiffany overturns her entire ethos and philosophy in life to the point where she has to escape the country. Like, that makes no fucking sense. It annoyed me how random and dramatic that change was, when Tiffany's character was portrayed excellently prior to that. I felt that the author was just rushing at that point. |

I thought totally stoned Sooyoung explained it quite well with the whole island analogy I felt there was a lot of pushing and pulling between Jeti that makes Tiffany's sudden 'insanity' quite self-explanatory having bits and pieces of this 'blonde alien that speaks her language' becoming so prominent in her mind all of a sudden. Also from how Jessica was introduced, I guess as a reader I assumed that she'd be different without question. Maybe because we were thrown into the middle of Yulti and was expected to just GET their connection, it wasn't explicitly explained, in comparison to reading how Jeti met from the very first moment...I felt a bit more attached to the latter pairing (this always happens when I watch a TV series or anime XD) But in a deeper context it would have been nice to know how Tiffany was mind-fucked by her parents, it would explain a lot of things like why she treats people the way does etc. then again if Tiffany was explained, the fic wouldn't have been as interesting

You know, a room full of Aur@tuses would have spared his readers from a lot of pain and drama. Instead of relying on his readers to give him his daily dose of ego trip, the aur@tuses could just sit around in a room, drinking wine, and talk about how awesome they are as writers. |

Do you guys like this fic? The grammatical errors really kill it for me (the writer isn't a native English speaker). And then the story got to this part...

I kinda like it, but I recognize its flaws the grammatical errors are not that annoying to me and I'm one of those who cringe when reading "your" when it's "you're" it used to be more fun though, now that they got together, the drama started to drag also, I didn't really like how they got together, from Tiffany's part I mean. Taeyeon was pretty clear in love with her and Tiffany was all "I'm curious so I wanna make out yay" |
