question to k-anons, is k-pop target audience teenage korean kids?
I noticed people watching those groups performances and singing along, are they kids? It's kinda hard to imagine an adult among those people
Most fans are middle school age range (12-15). This is majority for male idols. L33 H!/!U/etc have a lot of uncle fans. Girl groups have college age fans (male) but it is not likely they will know all songs and names of the members. They are just something to get excited about when they come to university. Idols want to have loyal fans and public recognition but it is not the case most of the time. Plenty of idol group songs are popular and you hear them a lot but it is not like the group and members are a big deal. If a scandal happens the response is only from fans. The public has no real opinion.

Idols are a kid thing in basic sense.

My university gets a lot of Korean exchange students, and I've actually asked about who really listens to kpop and I got the same answer as you guys. There are people in college who listen to kpop, but I mostly heard girl groups. I named a few groups and other than SNSD, they were like uhhh I haven't really heard of them/know their songs. SNSD seemed pretty popular tho.

yeah I was telling me friend that groups like shin33 and suju aren't actually that well known to the general public in korea and she thought I was lying

a lot of people don't care about kpop. snsd are rare in that their name goes outside of just music.

same anon

oh, and what do adults usually listen to, if it's not k-pop?
because basically k-pop dominate everything on tv, I believe other independent acts, rock acts (real rock, not manufactured rock from k-idols) and other styles don't even show up in the media
D K-A
I agree with anon at above :D
general public know idol music because It's everywhere but don't know detail
something like.... I mentioned about muggle before, idol fans joke about that muggles think they can get a sign if they stand in line at fansign lol fansign is lottery.
yep most fans are teenager but there are 20' fans as well because loyal fans are getting old with their idols  like me
if you have seen charts , you would know that there are also non-idol musics on charts
and there is trot TV channel as well old people like it and people like other music shows like i am a singer
It don't need to show up in the media. if someone likes indie music, then they will go to hongdae or if someone likes musical, they will go to musical theater etc and there are many other hobbies instead of listening music

I've heard that soshi and teeveexq were the only groups that reached the general public, as in a lot of older fans and huge popularity, is it true?

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep(i never bring them up, good or bad, in the main thread though), so i'll answer your question.

from what i've observed about him in the ifandom is that he isn't that popular. probably one of the least popular, but he does have very loyal fans. kind of like maybe hyoyeon. loohan is one of the most popular and schumin is (presumably) really really close to him, but people tend to ignore that ship because he isn't as popular, even though they have tons of moments. kind of like maybe 2ny who are (presumably) really close but not shipped as much. good for him that he is popular in korea though. seems like a good guy.
thank you for the answer
at least one person who can answer the question is here :D

It's too bad he is in M
if he were in K, he would really popular. he is the type of idol that Korean fan likes
It's really good become muggleking lol It's like yoona(they are not that popular lol but still good become known to general public)
no prob girl. :sissies:
i heard that he volunteered himself to be in M, even though he is korean and probably would have been leader of K since he's the oldest. pretty admirable of him.

I'm sorry but what is he exactly famous for lol? Because as far as I'm concerned, he's not particularly the best dancer/singer etc...
It's idol. It doesn't necessary to be best dancer/singer. talent is an option lol
his appearance is ssipdeoksang (the face that otakus would like) LOL

Is cnbu3 a real band?
They are idol music. Same with FT. A "real band" would be like N3ll, YB, Guckk@sten. ^teevee has lost most of their steam. jwhyj is seen more as artists. They have all fallen though.

Idol music is played on radio and shops (effex music is played a lot), but there are specialty stations for trot, rock just like US. Shops/restaurants with TV show dramas and varieties so idols get exposure. Su ji is very popular but people don't know her group. Her acting was what really made her big. Her CFs and appearances continue that. Actors are at the top. Idol culture is obsessive and is taken as real life by fans so it is seen as immature/childish.

Lol true. I even thought Kheeii was famous in Korea. The girl at my job is gay and has only been in the US for 3 years. She goes to gay clubs here in the states and even went in Korea, but has never heard of J0Kw0n or Kheeii

all these jokes about idols give me nerves tbh.

they work hard and a lot of them actually are talented.

they work harder than a lot of artists...they deserve some respect.

i like k-pop and i'm not ashamed of this. maybe that korean girl was a JB fan. (type, listen who talks)

so IMO all this "hate" and "judging" on idols,it's too much... ;)

please
they create anything?
everything from their image to what they sing it's not their idea
all songs are produced and written for them. they only go to the studio and sing how they are told to

a lot of people in this world work a lot harder than them, especially because everything they do is because they are ordered to
they don't go to a studio, sit down, spend a couple of months composing songs, melodies and writing lyrics
JB = K-pop
and even JB wins a little bit more because he seems more talented than a lot of idols out there right now
you know 99% of these idols are chosen because of their looks right?

first: i said that they work harder than a lot of artists.
i'm saying the same reverse thing that you said.
they work harder than a lot of artists, exactly like a lot of artists in this world work harder than them.

second: because you don't compose or you don't write doesn't mean that you suck. there are people that have a great voice, but they don't play instruments and they don't know how to writen a song or lyrics ecc. (they don't have talent in that). same thing goes to who knows how to compose a song, play instruments ecc.,but unfortunally it isn't intonate.
they're aren't complete artist, but not all have all.

how do you know that some idols don't have talent to write a song or compose it?? they don't have time or their "agency" doesn't allow them too.

idol sit and sing you say?? uhm okay...and the choreographies?? hours and hours of practice?? they sing and dance...and they entertain the public too if you allowed me to say it.

JB=Idol are you kidding right?? JB better?? HE sit and sing...on the concerts he sing and walk or "dance" like i do in my room.

he doesn't do anything.

so please you.

anyway i'm not saying that idols are better and work harder of all the world.

i'm just saying that they work hard too,and they don't entirely deserve all the shit, the jokes that they receive.

99% choosen for their look?? yeah right. the looks it's an important factor you're right, but it's not extreme like that...

P.S artist around the world make an album every 2 or more years. idol every year and sometimes twice in a year. reflect...

da x2 yunh0 even said in a variety show like 2 years ago that he was having a conversation with a younger girl and she hadn't heard of b0a, him or his group.

A lot of people don't watch music shows or the type of variety that idols are on so even if someone gets played on TV or radio often, its only reaching a certain demographic.

I'm sorry, if everything is done for you, you just put your voice there and dance (after years of training at it) someone else's choreography, you're not a real artist. I don't care what you think, this is the reality, and you can ask that to anyone who isn't biased with k-pop.
