I'm tired of it
some people in here and there said like Koreans are ignorant and racist
do you think other countries and race are not ignorant and racist lol?
and I saw this post in here 'If I was a black person, I wouldn't feel comfortable liking k-pop'
you know I liked US shows that's why I studied English.
I can say "If you were a Korean person, you wouldn't feel comfortable liking US shows"
not only about shows, musicians who visited Korea lately
Mus3, skrill3x, Y3llowcard. especially Mus3, they regularly visited Korea but they put rising sun flag in their MV. skrill3x showed rising sun flag at concert.
Y3llowcard member who uploaded rising sun flag pic and just say to Korean fans "I love japan, deal with it" :eyeroll:
most western people don't even know difference between Japan and Korea

the last sentence is totally true
almost everyone I know say this when I correct them that something is korean or chinese instead of japanese:
"it's all the same"
and I'm like, um, no it's not
I'm sure you see similar things going on in korea when talking about western countries, like I've seen a lot of koreans refer to the west only as USA. As if everyone from Europe, South America and others are north americans. It's very ignorant.
but really, I don't find excuses for these people I know when they talk these things about asian countries. I know it's ignorance or laziness. You should do the same, correct them, don't try to excuse their ignorance by pointing fingers to the west

yeah we do it. many Korean students who study in overseas made to change it
of course we don't just blame them on our website by our language .
they asked people to translate and collect history datas

but what you guys did?
only thing I saw was from om0na.
they said like we should know because we have fastest internet and they compliment decay politician LOL (please just don't say if you don't know about it)

Yeah, I think this is true. Most people I've spoken to think that everything from Eastern Asia is Chinese, which really annoys me. There are more countries in Eastern Asia than China, you know. :eyeroll:

it's very unsual right?
I'm just curious, is it common?
freckles usually show up because of white skin, and asians have yellowish skin so I'm guessing it's pretty rare
I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, I'm just curious because I'm ignorant in this subject

this kind of freckle is common among east asian. one will get it after expose to strong sunlight for a considerable period.

This thread is about Korean pop culture so we were discussing the racism and ignorance present there. America isn't the center of the universe so of course Koreans aren't going to be aware of the history of blackface, the n word etc. BUT you'd think being told something is offensive that that would put a stop to it. I don't think all Koreans are ignorant/racist and from netizens comments after the episode of Hello Counselor with the Kenyan student it seems like people want change. The evidence is there though and the criticism is valid.

I don't think for a second that anyone believes western society is a progressive, utopia devoid of racism and ignorance. I can only speak for America in terms of western countries, but the foundation of the US is institutionalized racism. American media only gives a stereotypical portrayal of POC (if they are even represented in a tv show/movie/ad/etc) a majority of the time. The list goes on.

Honestly, this post just sounds like Japan vs Korea when yes most western people don't know the difference or the history between the two countries. We are to blame for this ignorance, but it's unrelated to our (not even in depth really) discussion of the treatment of black people in Korea.

IA with Artichoke and other anon(s). Some Asian ppl do have freckles lol. My mom and my uncle have freckles all over their neck and body. But ever since my family moved to America it disappeared bleh. I'm guessing it DOES have something to do with genetic and maybe the weather too.

most people don't know the history between japan and korea (as well as china and japan) because we are not taught that in school, as far as I know. eastern history is very limited
and when we study about the second world war, we usually just know what happened in europe. we know that japan invaded china, but we don't learn the details of it. unless we do a deeper research

and apparently this problem also applies to korea
they don't know about the huge racism against black people in western society? I find it really hard to believe
they probably don't care for it because they don't have this problem. they don't live with a variety people of color (hell, they point out when they see a foreigner) so it's like a foreign thing to them

It's to do with the sun. Think of freckles as little melanin packets - if you spend more time out in the sun, melanin will collect in those packets and create freckles.

Those types of freckles are to do with genetics, as well. Their visibility outside of the sun depends on how much melanin is there without its influence.

You honestly should G0ogle it. Sites like that refer mostly to clinical concerns, of which freckles are usually not.

yeah they not taught that in school. do you know about book 'So Far from the Bamboo Grove'? Japanese American writer wrote this book like japan was victim during war
some american schools taught this book. so, many Koreans and Korean Americans complained about it. so, many american schools don't taught this book anymore
seriously what you guys did in Korea then?
you guys just sat in front of a computer screen and typing in English
before you guys blame people like that, at least do something.

I actually agree with the principle behind this. If you expect Koreans to know about the American history of racism and abide by the sensitivities of it (which I think is ridiculous, tbh, America isn't and never was the centre of the world), then you should also make an effort to educate yourselves on Korean sensitivities about Eastern Asian concerns as well. Otherwise, you're making incredibly unfair demands.

Before saying that Koreans should share, or at least know of, the same values as you, make an effort to learn about Korean values in return. Don't expect of others what you won't give yourself.

I know Japanese imperialism was more widespread than Korea. I am ignorant of most of the history though and what it means in contemporary context. If that flag offends you/triggers you then I won't post it or bring up anything about it because any knowledge I have about its effects is limited/nonexistent. I'll try to learn more about it to avoid this/stop someone else in the future.

The thing is the WHITE majority of America is not going to cause an uproar about it because this is not something that overtly effects them. The ethnic makeup of each country is too different to make a suggestion like this. In an ideal world, Americans would come together as a unit about something in their history they find offensive, but that's not the case. Korean culture is being exported a lot, but kpop is not something many people in the US are following. Most American kpop fans are white as well. Plenty people in the international fandom still try to point out offensive things and get people more educated. Allegedly some fans were going to protest geedee at KC0n, but I don't know how legit that is.

I think we should stop comparing these issues though. They have completely different contexts and connotations.
