if someone's going to use their videos as evidence of some claim about a culture, i think it's necessary for people who know the language and culture to inform them of how unreliable those videos are.

i think it's also natural to feel annoyed when someone claims to know more than they truly do about something, and pass on faulty knowledge to people who might not know to not trust them as experts on the topic.
I could be wrong but I think Windmill was just using the video as a reaction, telling you to cry her a river.
i know what she meant by the video. "cry me a river", meaning she thought the other anon was complaining about something petty.
i'm trying to explain why anon's reaction is understandable.
Not sure if it's just one anon (even though the writing style is always very similar) but she always makes the same posts about us not getting Korean culture so we shouldn't have our opinion ready. It's always the same shit when we criticize anything that is connected to the korean culture. Sure, there are some aspect of the culture that we don't understand but that does't mean that we are always in the wrong. Every country has their shitty side and if people feel like expressing their opinion on that, let them!
da x2 it's annoying

you really don't about foreign teacher in Korea. lol I said about foreign teacher because anon said 'they used to teach english'
really. almost. English teachers in Korea. can't speak korean. and don't even have teaching skill. even there are many criminals. It's really true

I don't care you guys talking about shitty side if It's really true because I criticize it too
I only posted when It wasn't really correct
:eyeroll:

I'm familiar with the stories about foreign teachers in Korea and all the prejudice they get, but you gotta remember that for every bad apple there are tons of people that actually have good intentions and do have the right qualifications.

Sure, there are some aspect of the culture that we don't understand but that does't mean that we are always in the wrong. Every country has their shitty side and if people feel like expressing their opinion on that, let them!

And she also started trashing foreign teacher while there is absolutely no reason for that. These people are educating the Korean students to become better at a foreign language, they shouldn't be hated on. I agree that foreigners should try to adjust, but the country they live in can sometimes also try and adjust to the foreigners. (I live in The Netherlands and we have a ton of immigrants from different cultures so it's not like I don't understand the situation)

And Simon and Martina don't only have foreign friends, they also stated several times that they have Korean friends - so please stop acting all ignorant towards them because that's the exact same thing you like to claim that we do towards you culture. They also usually say before their videos on in the comment section that they aren't always 100% correct so everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
it's not that you can't have your opinions, it's just that if she thinks that there's a disconnect in her culture and the anons' understanding of it, she tries to clear it up. you can have your opinions ready, but you should be prepared to adjust them if new information that you didn't know before comes to light.

she's criticizing foreign teachers because it's not that they have trouble adjusting to the culture, it's a matter of them not feeling the need to learn the culture. they can 'get by' in Korea without actually speaking Korean. There's even a common thought among foreign teachers that "since Koreans are learning english, should we really have to learn Korean?" I have patience for tourist who just want to visit the country and they shouldn't be expected to learn the language for a 1-2 week trip, but seeing english teachers who live there for years and insist on speaking broken konglish is pretty annoying.

this k-anon annoys me greatly
she's always condescending when dealing with us, is it with all foreigners? This is not the first time. It's always like this
I never saw anyone bashing Korea here, and this anon always shows up saying "lol you don't know korean, korean not bad" please, enlighten us or shut the fuck up. You're not getting royal treatment here because you're korean, why should you? This is an english dominant site so you're actually the minority here, learn to be nicer and less arrogant.

You should be thankful we're being so respectful to your culture, I know a lot of internet people who would not be so kind.

And actually you should try to fit in here, since this is an english forum, not us fitting to korean ways
The way you talk to us seems like you are all high and mighty like "lol I'm korean so bow down since this forum is talking about k-pop and what I say rules over you"

This is why k-anons don't like to answer here. I think sometimes there's a double standard.

When fans point out that idols doing blackface (or any other ignorant things) is insensitive toward black people and their culture, everyone agrees and I agree too.

But when people point out idols doing things offensive in their own culture, or westerners showing insensitivity toward the culture of the country they live in, it's not considered a 'big deal'. It's considered petty and if a k-anon tries to explain something, it's not that they're trying to help people understand or anything, people reply in a way that makes it seem like she's being sensitive or making a big deal out of nothing.

Maybe I should be insensitive too and tell offended ifans to cry me a river if they complain about cultural insensitivity. I guess it only counts if their culture is being offended. But that's equally bad, so I'll just stop commenting on these kinds of issues. If you see an idol get in trouble for something and you don't understand why people have that reaction, just blame the culture. The things that get lost in translation, those don't matter.

i feel like people are ganging up on k-anon :ermm: some of these problems anons have with k-anon are also related to language problems. it's obvious english isn't her first language and the way she expresses what she wants to say seems curt and dismissive, but i think that's because of her level of english. just, ease up on the hostility.

There is one korean anon who is very polite and always tries to explain things for us nicely
but there's this other one (I know it's a different person because they write very differently) who is always condescending and loling

No one was being bashed though. People just pointed out something that happened and things they heard other Korean anons say, not just you or the other Korean anon you mentioned. Some things got lost in translation and it did seem the anon didn't really like the mixed accusations. But like some anon said several minutes ago, there will be a language barrier and the Korean anons might sound dismissive or mean while in fact it's not like that at all.

The only point I was trying to make was that some of the Korean anons should stop getting so hurt of the butt, and that even though we don't always understand the culture, that doesn't mean that we are always wrong or shouldn't express our opinion. Sometimes it's indeed a different culture but other times it's just people showing ignorant behavior.

No hard feelings. ^_^
